5.0 out of 5 stars ***Five Star Review? Buyer Should Have Serious Doubts About Buying From Reolink
Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2020
Verified Purchase
Leaving five stars because most people only look at the great reviews...so here is a more rounded review that should give everyone pause before they buy.
Let me start by saying that I love the cameras. Bought 4 here and 3 more directly from Reolink on their Ebay store. The cameras have great picture quality and if you follow the instructions for setup using the bar codes, it takes about 45 seconds to get them up and running.
And I am returning all of them. Further, I would strongly encourage all prospective buyers to strongly consider looking elsewhere for their security camera needs. Reolink is simply INEPT when it comes to backing up their products.
A couple of weeks ago I bought 4 of these cameras. At $150 a camera with the solar panel, they are not cheap. As instructed during the setup of one of them, I went to lift up the little 1/2 inch by 3/8 rubber flap that covers the on/off switch and secures it from rain. The flap is held to the camera with a paper clip thick protrusion that goes into the body of the camera. When I pulled at it, that extremely thin piece of rubber holding the flap to the camera, broke. I didn't pull it hard, and I do not have super human strength. It just sort of broke and although I can still place the flap into the camera, it needs to be repaired because if it ever falls off, the entire camera will be ruined.
I didn't think this was a big deal.
I was wrong.
I wrote to the company and explained the situation. I explained that the cover tore and I wanted to know how I could get a replacement cover. I would be happy to cover the costs. No problem. And I made it clear that I only needed the little cover because the camera otherwise worked fine. I just need the cover!
Their response was that they wanted me to send them a picture of the camera. Admittedly, I was irritated. So I wrote back that I was surprised that they wanted a picture of this because the camera worked....I just needed the small cover and that I could probably buy it on ebay for a few cents plus shipping. This thing seemed like a no-brainer to me.
They wrote back and said...oh, now that we understand that the camera works they will refer it to their techs.
Great.
Next day (and keep in mind that their turnaround is always a day later) I get an email asking me to send them a copy of the invoice. No problem. I did that within a minute.
Next day..we enter the Twilight Zone. Instead of simply writing back to me with something saying that they are shipping out the new cover, I get an email asking me to send them the link of the Ebay listing for the cover I found so that they can tell me if it will fit the camera. HUH? So they have gone from taking responsibility for making a cheaply connected cover to helping me ensure that a third party solution (that did not exist) would fit their camera? This was sort of nutso.
I wrote back and said simply that I did not find a cover on ebay.
This morning - another 24 hours later - comes the latest response...they want to give me a 5 dollar refund.
Now you would expect that a company selling a 150 dollar camera with a rubber cover for the on/off switch would grasp that the cover that they designed for their own camera to protect the switch from rain/snow/etc had an actual purpose for existing...but these folks instead want to refund me five bucks to accomplish what exactly? Am I supposed to tape the five dollar bill over the switch to protect it? I just need a new tiny cover!
So I am now a week into this silliness and I have had enough. These cameras are not cheap. So before you buy from these folks, think very seriously about the warranty and support that they give and ask yourself if you should be going for products made by Google or Netgear because there is no doubt that a similar situation with their products would have resulted in a replacement part coming in roughly 2 days.
Reolink makes great cameras. But they simply have no ability to back up their products with support that should make people comfortable. I have lost confidence in this company.
All of my cameras...a thousand dollars of cameras...are going back because they can't figure out how to send out a tiny rubber cover that cost them a few cents.
Pathetic.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best camera we've bought so far and we have several different brands !
Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2020

This is Karen's husband writing this review as I am the "tech guy" in our home.
I am VERY pleased with how the camera is performing so far, so the 4.2 out of 5 rating seems well deserved. I admit I had some reservations when I read some of the reviews that were negative, in my opinion some may have been because of an individually defective product and some may have been due to lack of detailed enough directions.
When I was first trying to connect the camera to our WIFI it wouldn't connect, then I realized I forgot to type in our WIFI password, DUH ! After I added the password it connected immediately. The camera is roughly about 85 feet from our WIFI router and goes thru 2 walls and still has kept connected very well.
Also, we have Amazon Alexa and at first could not get Alexa to recognize the camera, so I did an online search for help and found a page on the Reolink support site with the steps needed to connect to Alexa, after reading that page I saw there was a step I didn't know about, once I followed those steps Alexa connected very well ! We can view the live camera feed from our smartphone app, from our "Echo Shows" via voice command, and even on our tv screens with Amazon Firestick (we have other brands of security cameras we view thru the Firestick also) so I can use a voice command and see different cameras on the screens including the Reolink camera, and I did not have to download anything to the Firestick, simply enable Alexa according to the directions on the help page I mentioned.
I already had security cameras looking from our home outward, I wanted a wireless solar PTZ camera I could mount away from the house that I could turn to look at the house as well as turn to view other areas of our property not covered by the cameras we already had.
So I mounted the camera on a thick (schedule 40) PVC pipe and mounted the solar panel on the very top of the pole, I used 3 hose clamps to fasten the PVC pipe to a 4 foot metal fence post I hammered into the ground, so far it seems to working very well. I will upload a picture of it.
I do a lot of research before buying tech stuff, and it would be difficult to find ANY product that is perfect or that you might wish had more or better features, but for the features you get with this camera (including solar powered, PTZ capability, Alexa connectivity) I really can't complain for the price paid.
Note: Remember this is not a commercial grade professional system, but commercial grade features likely cost much higher commercial grade prices, so again, for the price paid I really can't complain, I feel this camera does really pretty good for it's price level !

My camera just showed up today. Ive been messing with it all day. I hooked up the solar panel and even on a cloudy day in the shade, it still charged a bit. Picture quality is clean 1080. Functionality is very responsive. Night vision is strong and clear. I can also listen with the built in mic and even that is crystal clear. I am very happy with this camera so far. Battery life seems to be pretty great. Its battery only loses about 10% over night and stays at 100% every day it. Very impressive and easy to install. I think i will add more in the future. Motion detection works great. Was a bit sensitive at first, but after tinkering with the settings in the app, i got it to ignore traffic and sense people. Highly recommended.

I tested using it while I was away from home and it works great. The battery stayed charged at 100% with the solar panel. I think this is a awesome product for the price.

I just wrote a review for my blink cameras and because of how horrible they are I had to buy something else. I purchased the Reolink and couldn’t be happier with my decision. The battery life is great and with the solar panel it is almost like being wireless. The pan feature is great as I can move it around but usually it stays in one spot. The motion detection could be a bit better and sometimes picks up movement at the end. The night vision is great on this thing. At night I get full bright color video and it looks great. Tweaking the HD and Standard settings a bit gives me a crisp clear video. The upload service is great and cheap you can stick with the free one but I paid the little bit of money for the year and my uploads take up no room. Whereas my junk garbage blink cameras I would fill up space in less then 12hrs. I highly recommend the Reolink and will be purchasing more for my house.

5.0 out of 5 stars [Updated X 2] Nice little camera...
Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2021

Not sure what all the whining in the bad reviews is all about. When I received it I was immediately impressed by the build quality and overall design. Very solid unit and I like it much better than the Blink camera that I am replacing.
Great picture quality (for 1080p), totally silent motor operation, great mounting options.
I'm also impressed with the phone app (especially compared to the Blink software) - haven't tried the desktop version yet, but expect it to be the same. Very customizable and mostly intuitive. PTZ operation is very good.
In other words, I would recommend this camera and I would buy it again.
----------
Edit (07/29/21): I take back everything I said about this camera. I've been working with it for about a week now, and I'm even more impressed than I was before. Great solar charging (and I only get about 2 hours of direct sunlight where I mounted it; it will passively charge too, just much slower), I'm really impressed with the video quality (again, especially for just 1080p), also, I'm impressed with the WiFi connection. My installation location meant that this unit was going to be about 30-40 feet from my router, through walls and windows, with the unit antenna facing away from the router location. Still, excellent signal, and only a few seconds lag [which is probably more due to my router than the camera]. Anyway, impressed.
If I were talking to a friend about this unit I would tell them (he/him, she/her, it/other - LOL) to buy the freaking thing and ignore the negative reviews.
This, coming from a real "Tech Guy" with almost 40 years of real tech experience.
Ciao!
----------
Edit (08/04/21): I received this unit with about a 38% battery charge. Based on my preferred installation location [second floor balcony, with dense foliage/trees], I really should have, and had the option to, fully charged the unit via USB before I installed it. But, being the adventurous, stubborn S.O.B. that I am, I wanted to see how long it would take to get a full charge using only the solar panel. Today I achieved 100 percent charge! Yay!
You do the math because I don't want to. But, to the best of my recollection, it's been just under a month, and I have full charge with only about 2 hours of direct sun on the panel, and the rest of the day is passive. Admittedly, I would shut off the PIR (Motion Detection) during the day, almost every day, to allow the charge to hold rather than be on/off again all day, which would inevitably sap the power, and prolong the 100 percent goal.
Having said that, now with 100% charge, I'm going to leave the PIR detection on 24/7, and I'll probably update again.
Bottom line... I freaking LOVE this camera, and I still don't understand the negative reviews (please don't get me started).
Hope this helps,
Ciao!

5.0 out of 5 stars Far Better than Anticipated - Update
Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2020

I had to return two cameras from a different seller. I could not get past the the app. i was hesitant that I was faced with the same situation. I was so wrong. From the packaging, to the instructions, this has been a FAR superior experience.
The instructions are easy to understand and more or less take you through the few steps necessary. Several notes below:
1. I did strip the screws provided. Plan on having spares standing by.
2. The power cord from the solar panel to the camera is long, allowing you to put the solar panel on the sunny side of the street, and the camera in a protected area. While it is "weather proof", a wise user will find a protected area for the camera.
3. The box comes with white power cord which can charge the camera before putting the camera in its permanent location. Once the solar panel is attached to the camera, it appears to be doing a pretty good job of keeping the camera charged even without direct sunlight. An orange light indicates the camera is being charged, while a green light indicates a full charge.
4. A 2.4 GHZ WIFI is required.
5. Problems: Other than stripped screws, I had a minor difficulty linking the camera to my iPhone and iPad. After two days, I still have not been able to link to my PC. I live in a colder climate and am a little concerned of our -20f temperatures. We will see. It required a micro-SD card for playback. I have one installed but it so far is not recognized by the camera. Also, the instructions don't clearly show where the micro-SD card is inserted. Rotate the camera pointing up to revel the slot.
While this camera is looking out over the lake, I'm buying a second for the other side of the house. This has been a very positive experience so far.
Oh and I failed to mention that the image quality is very good. I'm waiting to see if I can pickup an image of our resident bear.
UPDATE:
Camera #2 purchased and EVERYTHING positive I can say about the first camera applies to this as well. The set up was so easy and I was a little concerned as to how the app would handle another camera. Again, even that aspect was amazingly easy.
IMPORTANT: I found out after the first camera failed to recognize my 128GB micro-SD card that these cameras will not accept a micro-SD larger than 64GB. I have 32GB cards in both cameras now and the capture videos are great. Still haven't caught the bear on the camera but plenty of deer eating our flowers at 2:45AM. There is nothing negative to say about the cameras. I am a little concerned with the colder temperatures but we will have to see.
UPDATE:
I was cautioned not to go below 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Due to circumstances beyond my control I was unable to return home this winter. I monitored the temperature and the two days we fell to -33F, I checked both cameras. All worked as expected. The pan & tilt may have been a little slower but I was able to move the cameras and use all of the functions at -33F. If there was rain or wet snow, I would not have moved the cameras and waited for slightly warmer temperatures. These cameras and this company is far better than expected.

This is the second Reolink device I have purchased, the other is a stationary device on my front door and both are great. I needed one to be able to monitor my driveway and my rear door and instead of buying two units, I bought this one where I can watch both from my phone. There is only one caveat for any of the Reolink products and that is don’t expect to be able to monitor your devices everywhere you are located. I have found that if you are on someone else’s WiFi, chances are you won’t be able to get a picture. If you are using your phone through a cell tower, you shouldn’t have any issues. For some reason, and, I think, being unable to monitor your camera’s from your phone is due to most houses or businesses not having the necessary bandwidth Reolink requires to stream video, that is my guess. In any event, I think that Reolink does a great job with their products. Setting up this device with my existing Reolink App was as easy as setting up the first one and now I have both camera’s on and monitoring at the same time. The solar batteries work great and even in low sunlight conditions, you’ll still have plenty power to work your camera’s.

I could not be happier with my Reolink cameras. I now have 4 cameras around the house (3 exterior / 1 interior) and they are incredible. The interface on the app is excellent, very intuitive and easy to use. I love that I can open the app and view one or all 4 cameras simultaneously. I had held off on getting outdoor security cameras because I wasn't sure about power sources and cords running to outlets on the side of the house. The solar panel is excellent & installs very easily onto an eve or gutter so the panel is at or above your roofline. I've had the 3 exterior cameras now for about 7 months and the batter power consistently remains pegged at 100%. I also like the feature where you can schedule the times to record any motion by day and time. I also use the custom recording feature to play a warning message about 'This property is under surveillance and you are being recorded right now'. My family feels safe knowing that our property is protected 360 on the outside and that any potential intruders would be less than smart to even try getting into our house. The Alexa compatibility is okay but there is a definite lag in pulling up any one of the cameras. I find it much easier just to use the app on my phone whenever needed. These are great, inexpensive cameras that deliver exactly as described.

Overall the installation and connectivity portion to the app or by far incredibly simple. It arrived today and I had it up today within 30 minutes, I have had other cameras from this company in the past so I pretty much had the system down. Overall what I would have to say
- App is very responsive
- Image is very very clear close up, far away tends to slowly blur
- very smooth installation with minimal parts and again a simple install that pretty much anyone can do. As far as the connectivity, I would make sure that you have a strong signal depending on where you intend on placing this unit. I put a repeater outside of my garage and have it located on our power pole at the end of the driveway which is roughly 50 or 60 And it connects with a high enough rate to be able to use the camera effectively.
Excellent purchase, you can’t go wrong and the newer one that’s getting ready to come out will have auto tracking, I will have one of those!

Did our research and we are happy to have chosen this camera. It is easy to install, and the picture is great. We are able to monitor the camera from everywhere. The pan and tilt feature is a bit laggy, but nothing that hinders the use of the unit. The motion sensor took a little working with to adjust it, but it now works as advertised. The solar panel keeps the battery topped off.
There is one thing that needs to be understood, for those who may have had connection problems. If your router has both a 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz band, your camera must be connected to the 2.4Ghz band. The device (phone, tablet, PC, etc) on which you are viewing the camera, if connected to the same router/network as the camera, needs to be connected to the same 2.4 Ghz band that your camera is connected to, otherwise it will not connect (at least this has been our experience)
Good product, thinking about buying another one.

I installed a Reolink solar powered camera at my parent's house to keep an eye on things remotely. I really liked it. Good picture. Easy playback mode. The solar power works great. Never any issues with low power and it's been over a year now. So I decided to install a pan/tilt version at my own house. Works great and I like that I can point the camera remotely to wherever I want. One minor issue with the install. The QR image on the camera that is needed for the install is not visible after the camera is installed. So do the setup before the install or at least know you will have to take the camera down to do the setup. Went nuts trying to find the QR image after the install and even tried contacting the manufacturer, who never responded. Luckily I figured it out. Suggest instructions point out the QR image location. Also suggest the manufacturer provide better customer support. Always install a micro sd card to save recordings.

I have several of these cameras, for over a year. Two of them have the solar panel. With the solar panel they never need charged. the one without solar panel, goes for several months before it need charged, but its also not in a place that I have the motion detection on. The picture quality is very good, even at night. I am able to use my iphone to access them and receive the motion detection signal whether I'm home or not. The initial set up was fairly easy, instructions could be better for us less techy people. they connected to alexa easily, and I can see the picture on the echo show or on my TV. They pan up and down and left to right with a excellent range, I can see from one end of the back yard to the other and its pretty large area (one end of the house to the other) . The only issue I have had is I've never been able to get them connected to the PC. Again I'm not very techy , and for me its not a deal breaker. They were easy enough to install in various places around the house. I have not had an issue with connecting wireless, and one is on the opposite end of the house from the router. I use it a lot just to monitor where the dog is. the speaker is nice, I can yell at the dog when he's barking. The speaker is also nice scare of unwanted solicitors.

This is my third Reolink camera and the first battery powered. The camera is mounted @75' from my house and associated WiFi router. No issue with WiFi signal it usually shows full strength. The video is clear including at night. The PIR motion detection is great, it could be a little quicker but what is most impressive is there are almost no false alarms. With my other cameras things like wind, rain and snow will always set off the motion alarm. The PT did not false alarm during a strong wind/snow storm which was impressive. The battery life seems to be ok, I do have the solar panel for charging. Slightly disappointed that it will not charge below 32F but picks right up as soon as the temp goes up. THe PTZ function is ok, I would like to have predetermined stops but it responds well.
I am also trying the free Cloud service from Reolink which so far is awesome. The recordings are immediately available and can be downloaded if needed. The video attached shows one of our nightly visitors looking for food! All in all I would definitely recommend this camera.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great solar power/tilt camera, but needs improvement.
Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2020
Verified Purchase
Ok I have 3 of these cameras now.
After a couple months, here’s what I found.
The Good :
The solar powered operation is pretty good. Keeping in mind this is Florida, the solar panel easily keeps up with the camera, even with frequently messing with it. Usually only loses 10-15% per night. *****
The WiFi is really good for the camera. It is located about 400’ from the house, and even with the little antenna provided, it would connect - but it is not stable and would have to retry frequently. So I connected a 16” cell antenna to it, and is working very well with only occasional drops. ****
The night vision is decent for a small camera but with limited distance. It is located by 2 solar street lights, so vision is improved to the extent of the lit area. **
The setup is very simple, and control of the pan and tilt is pretty good with a thumb wheel vs a screen swipe motion that others have. The app is very easy to operate and setup the features it includes. ****
The limitations :
The detection distance to activate recording is very limited. The camera is mounted on a light pole approximately 10’ above ground level and 10’ from the edge of the road. Vehicles are not detected approaching the camera until approximately 15’ from the pole, and you usually only catch the back half of the vehicle due to detection and reaction time of the camera. As vehicles are passing from the rear of the camera, they are caught quicker as they enter the view within the detection range. With the camera mounted to a decent height (8-10’) for security reasons, you lose too much of the detection distance. *
The video quality is clear, but not able to distinguish details like license plate number with vehicles going 25 mph. The recorded video should be better at the advertised 1080p. Simply, misses too much activity that should be in range. *
The lack of continuous video capability causes many of the limitations. With good charging capability or solar input, this should be an option when recording to a card. *
I do not use the notification capability, as the camera is used for security/documentation rather then notification, in its use. However it is easily set up in the app.
Is it worth it - yes, but still looking to improve the detection distance to start the recording.
What this camera needs:
Better detection sensitivity to detect motion quicker.
Quicker response when motion is detected to activate recording.
The ability to continuous record when adequate solar/battery power is available. Include additional battery in the solar panel like trail cams use if necessary.
The ability to zoom.
The ability to save specific location directions for recall like powered ptz camera.
And Yes, the camera DOES shake in the wind with the plastic mounting bracket which would cause unnecessary alerts if using them.

I bought two Reolink cameras with the solar panels. Installation didn’t take very long, in the matter of fact it was pretty easy. I downloaded the app and within minutes I had both cameras connected to my WiFi. All set up and good to go until I tried to connect the cameras on my Reolink app. This is where the struggle begins. Both cameras have the blue light on which is an indication of being connected to WiFi. Although when I open the app and try to connect to watch the live mode or watch a playback of the videos recorded, “Connection failed” message is displayed. After multiple times of trying to connect to them I get a connection established but it’s very weak. Other times good luck connecting and watching the live picture. Both cameras are on a direct way to my router so the router or the WiFi signal is not to blame. I reached out the customer service and the feedback received pretty much blames my WiFi connection. It is to mention that I also have the Ring doorbell installed and no trouble whatsoever. These cameras are a good idea but the functionality of it needs big time improvement. I’m only rating two stars because the app and the connection to the cameras don’t work half the time.
UPDATE:
the customer support/
engineering team has tried to adjust the settings within the app and it seemed to be helping the connection which improved. Moving up to 4 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Needs more battery life

As you can see, the camera has excellent picture quality, both night and day with no added lighting. It is easy to control with the Reolink app. I have had Reolink cameras for a year and my only complaint is that I occasionally have to plug the PT in and put a full charge on it. I have two cameras in the same location. This is the Argos PT and the other is the Argos Eco. They are on separate solar panels. The Eco will maintain a 90% or better charge but the PT will rarely be above 65% and will drop even lower if there are multiple overcast days. I have swapped the solar panels between cameras and it makes no difference.
I have 2 other Ecos in another location and they both run off of one solar panel and maintain 95% or better charge.
The Argos PT is the only one that has this issue. I also want to note here that I rarely use the PT feature so that should not be running the battery down.
I am wondering if the solar panel is just not strong enough to handle this camera or if it has a defective battery.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Motion Detection, Day/Night Image Quality is Excellent, let down by recording capability.
Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2022
Verified Purchase
So far I really like this camera. The whole Reolink product line is pretty well thought out. Image quality compared to my old 1080p system is a massive improvement obviously. I was curious about how motion detection works and wouldn't you know, after installing this remote solar camera my 100lb Doberman set it off around 2am and I was able to get a nice clear image with minimal ghosting.
For the details...When I was searching out systems I wanted something similar to my Ring Cam's but with a dedicated NVR IP based system that could be expanded with extra solar powered units. We had a break-in and I want coverage of my property from all angles, so my security is very serious to me, image quality and remote capability is a must to me. When shopping for this camera I had assumed this camera would easily tie into my NVR system and being that it was networked via the cloud, somehow video from events would be recorded to my NVR system for replay viewing, I was wrong. To actually retain some kind of evidence should anything happen this camera requires a micro SD Card. If you read any of my previous reviews you'll know one of my big things is to have an All-In-One kit and as a buyer I would hope a security company would understand that I want playback in the event of a incident...so why not include the SD card with the camera ? Also, since this camera is not a dedicated IP cam on my 16 channel NVR box, the camera 'still' on your quick view of the app is all the way at the bottom in its own section rather than being intelligently grouped with my current active cameras to avoid having to scroll past 8 empty squares to get to my remote solar cams.
This may all be nit picky stuff, but it makes product usage kind of blah. You'll also see that this camera and solar panel wasn't originally intended to be installed on a pole structure, all of the predrilled fastener holes are in a wide pattern more for mounting on a wall or flat surface. The solar panel bracket is metal covered in a hard plastic, I used a drill bit to open an extra hole up in the middle then fastened it with a self tapping screw to my 2 1/2" galvanized pole. The camera mount also required a little trimming to mount securely to a pole, on the handing bracket for the camera I used a razor blade to cut out the little plastic notch at the top of the angle to create a flat enough surface to use a big fender washer and a self tapping screw to hold this bracket firmly to my pole..it worked out great. This bracket is all plastic though so be careful while handling/modifying it. Afterwards I went through the installation method and pretty much got stuck standing outside on a 12' ladder with the security camera not wanting to recognize the QR WIFI code on my phone screen. So the solution to this was to go inside and do it somewhere without external glare, viola..it worked.
I haven't had any issues with battery life as its always charged to 100% and the camera works wonderfully..as long as I don't try to record anything.

4.0 out of 5 stars Affordable and flexible security
Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2022

Starting off, this device is great for a simple and somewhat effective security camera. With good usually has some negatives as well.
Motion Detection:
The motion detection is rather well as it picks up just about all the motion in front of it, to include much of it at night (we have street lights to assist). BUT it always seems to pickup as "vehicle detection" even if someone or something moves in front of it. It will pickup human movement but I never received any alerts of people moving around or animals or really anything outside of vehicles.
Visibility:
It is a 2K style camera, so clarity is great, although you have no optical zoom that helps you pinpoint objects from afar, it does have a digital zoom that I find terrible in all senses. It distorts the video beyond good use once you start zooming. So if you don't care about zooming in, picture quality is great. It does only roll at 15FPS though, so keep that in mind if you are looking to do some frame-by-frame reviews.
Battery:
This is good/bad depending on how you look at it. I find the battery to be rather positive for the size, capability and for me..where its located. I have it placed in an area which the Solar panel (as i purchased the bundle) has limited true light visibility. The battery will hold a charge for quite some time, even under my continuous live feed viewing of it. I don't' recommend keeping it on live view the whole time unless you have a good form of charging capability, otherwise it will drain the battery rather quickly. The solar panel provided does a decent job in taking even the lowest light and providing a form of charge, but it obviously shines in direct sunlight.
Recording:
The device supports up to 128GB micro SD, which can do an overwrite on older files and you can even do a timelapse video (only through the SD recording). You do have an option to push to the cloud (free w/limitations for one device). As this is the only device I'm using, of this sort, I am utilizing the free cloud service which does great.
PTZ/Control:
The PTZ controls are straight forward. Given you are remoting into the system through wireless capability so there is a slight delay and you can sometimes find yourself rotating or moving more than you planned. Small movements go a long ways, sometimes. Careful on freezing conditions as the device is not secured in a dome, so water and cold will cause it to freeze up and not allow you to move it.
App:
The app is straight forward and easy to use. Once linked up you can pull up, configure, control, review (SD and Cloud) videos, and get motion alerts. Not much negative I can truly say about the app, as its simple and easy to use for my needs.
Wireless:
I can't say much on range but i have had no drops in quality or service for where it's located, but I'm running a whole home mesh network, so its within decent range of that. It will allow you to operate it outside of the network (stand alone only) BUT you lose all the features that come in handy for this purpose. I would say if you were doing stand alone, just get a game cam.
Audio:
I live in a windy area, so i hear quite a bit of wind. You do have an option to shut off audio or mute it, but otherwise it does pick up the birds chirping, vehicles coming from afar and occasionally someone talking as they walk by.
Limits:
As this is a battery operated and cloud-based system, it does not support ONVIF, so the use of 3rd party software is out the window. This sucks for me as I like to tie all my devices into one piece of software, but I also understand with battery operated devices since most software like that does constant live feed and that wouldn't be effective for this device
Overall:
I give it 4 stars as I deem it high quality, for it's price. However, I find it rather high priced for it's quality. It does what it needs to and I have found it's alerts, live feed capability, free cloud recording (for one device), and just some of the features have made it better than Arlo or competing devices of similar type (Battery, cloud-based, wireless/non-dvr/nvr). It's certainly something I plan to keep and utilize elsewhere once I get my higher quality PTZ POE camera.

4.0 out of 5 stars Base hit?
Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2021

If you're looking for a sturdy, well built camera powered by solar and operating over WiFi, this might be for you. The camera has some features that will appeal to home users but lacks important features to be considered a true security solution beyond the novice level.
The good:
Picture Quality
Fairly easy to setup if you follow the wizard on the app
Rugged construction of the camera itself.
The not so good:
Limited networking configurability (no static IP configuration possible - if you need static, you will need configure a DHCP reservation on your DHCP server).
Limited WiFi range
No ONVIF compatibility. You will NOT be able to connect this camera to an existing security NVR.
Camera mount is lightweight plastic. Would like to see higher quality materials and construction of the one thing that needs to keep your camera where it belongs.
The speaker on the camera is cute but hardly enough to be a deterrent. Think Fischer Price toy speaker.
Conclusion:
Unfortunately there are precious few options on the market for this type of device that runs completely un-teathered from the power and network grids. If all you are looking for is something that gives you a sense of being able to keep an eye on things, this will be a good option for you. If you need a real security solution you'll want something more robust.
I'm giving 4 stars because the ReoLink is decent for the price. It does what they say it will do but there are simply too many limitations to call it a solid base hit, let alone a home run. Call it "on base on a fielders choice". yeah, that's it.... fielders choice.

Nice camera for the price. Does not have motion zoning even though it says it does on this product page. No Reolink battery powered cameras have that option. 4mp camera is very clear with okay clarity when digitally zoomed. Pan ability is nice let’s you point lens exactly where you want. Motion sensitivity is good. Have not had any false alerts yet. Easy to download video to phone. Had a hard time getting Alexa to work, kept trying to connect but would end up saying “camera not responding “. Fiddled with a lot of settings then it just started working have no idea if it was anything I did or not. Limited use with Alexa, you can’t pan the camera or anything like that but still nice to have her put it on the fire tv when you tell her to. Night vision is good but my yard is fairly well lit have not tried it with lights off yet. Battery goes down less than 10% at night and is fully charged before noon on a sunny day here in South Carolina. Lots of options on the app for customization, scheduling etc. overall very pleased with it and recommend to anyone that wants a camera where it’s not accessible to electric power.

Reolink Argus PT does what it claims to do. Easy set up. Picture is a good 1080p. MIC works fairly well, but when you speak to it (2-way audio), quality is good, but not great. Wifi antenna/connection works well. Solar panel for power is a big plus.
Remember that this is a "PT" camera, not a "PTZ" camera. There is no ZOOM function. This is not a fault, as it is just not a "Z" camera.
Things that could use improvement:
When you navigate (PAN/TILT) with your finger on the phone display, it is difficult to be accurate. One thing that could help would be the ability to program PRESET positions. However, PRESET positions are NOT available for this specific model.
If you don't care about ZOOM & PRESET positions, don't plan to PAN/TILT often, and want to save energy by using the Solar panel, this is a good choice for camera.
IF ZOOM and PRESET positions are a "must" for you, I recommend another Reolink camera, model RLC-423. It is more expensive ($229), but more robust. It is a bigger, outdoor, more of a "industrial" type camera. You can definitely use it at home. Picture is great (2.4x 1080p), ZOOM and PRESET positions are features. You can power it via AC adapter, NVR, or PoE. Things that the RLC-423 does NOT offer: built-in MIC (confirmed by email from Reolink Tech Support) and wireless connection. For audio, there is an RCA port, to which you can attach a third-party MIC, if so desired. There are 5 cables coming out of it: Power port, Ethernet port, Reset button, RCA port (audio), and Earth wire (grounding). Lear more by visiting the Reolink web site. You can also check out my "PROS & CONS" of the RLC-423 by searching it on Amazon and finding my review.
I've been using both models for about 1 month. No major issues so far.
P.S.: Reolink Tech Support is very helpful. Email responses are quick and clear.
4.0 out of 5 stars Pro's and Cons of this camera

I purchased 5 Reolink camera's, all different models, for home surveillance. This Argus PT is the best over-all of the models I purchased, but there are some minor issues I want to point out that applies to all the Reolink camera's I have purchased.
I use the Reolink Windows software to manage them. The method of adding new camera's with the QR code is clunky at best. I can only seem to get that process to work thru the app on my phone. They should also set the camera with a default IP address and offer a direct manual method of adding the camera to your network. Second, the Reolink web support can be hard to navigate and you must create a user ID on their page for some firmware downloads. Third, in mixing different Reolink camera models, pay close attention since some of the older camera's will not work with their newer software. And lastly, the user interface for the camera's and viewer software is very basic. I've yet to find many advanced camera and software features easily.
Overall these are good camera's, however I think ReoLink dumbed down their software so anyone can use it in their home and sacrificed some of the advanced features available on other systems.

I’ve bought two of these. The second one I waited for the slow email support from Honk-Kong. The second camera had updated bios settings. Durning the initial linking. The update version does a constant beep. Follow the app prompts even though it doesn’t do what the app says durning linking. Lastly my new version of camera I had to move my cell phone screen 18 inches away from camera so the camera would actual scan the Qr-code with WiFi settings. The default distant claims 13 inches. The beeping doesn’t stop till camera scans the QR-code. Then rest of linking camera went great.
Mounting it. If mounted at 9-10ft. You loose lot of distance on the motion detection. This is battery powered so it takes about 1second of wake up before it starts recording. Some times first second of motion captured is a black screen because camera figuring out correct power levels to use during night.
Camera does take upto 128gb micro sd card. Does take clear images. Solar panel has been keeping them charged in -7 degrees.
Cons,
Needs better motion detection, or detection at 33ft mounted 10ft high, not at 6ft mount height.
Screws that come with are junk. Use your own.
Desktop app could be better, but at least they have one.
Only email support from china.
Pros,
Has a desktop app.
Records to SD card and not the cloud.
Can take time laps, images or video.
Has solar panel to keep charged.
Multiple devices/people, can watch camera at same time.
You can take manual recording or pictures and it saves automatically to device your using.

4.0 out of 5 stars Security Camera Wireless Outdoor, Solar Powered WiFi System

I have had this camera mounted outdoors for several weeks now. For the price point, I have no complaints. I would give it a 4.5 if I could. There are connectivity issues with the WiFi, so that deducts from a really good overall score. The wireless issues aren't bad enough to make it unusable, and could have more to do with that app than the camera. So far, my favorite feature is the solar panel. I charged the camera for several hours before I installed it outside. Since then the battery has gone back to 100% by the afternoon. Of course battery usage depends on other things like temperature, usage, ptz movement, etc. I tried using the battery camera without a solar panel and that gets old. This is much better. Picture is good even on cloudy days, but your live view also depends on bandwidth. Allow it to save motion recording to a local SD Card. Nighttime picture quality is very average. It looks better if you don't have any lights on that interfere.

Update 3. Customer service was great when I brought the issue of 2 different camera holders. Finally got them installed on corners of house using a separately purchased CCTV camera bracket. I now have nearly 360 degree view from each corner. Very happy with support and purchase.
Update 2: bought two on Cyber Monday. One came in a black box, one a white box. Cameras seem to be the same; however solar panels and brackets are different. Black box has a shorter bracket with a thicker solar panel, whereas the white box has a longer bracket and much thinner panel. The white box had protective plastic on the solar panel while the black box did not. (Refurbished??) So far I see no difference in camera performance, but, the longer bracket is a slight advantage for me. Setup was fairly easy, but, I'd add more instructions on installing memory card. I'll follow-up once installed and used for awhile.
UPDATE 1: The white box has a strap that, according to instructions, can be strapped to a pole or tree; none in black box. White box has a sturdier looking bracket for camera (see photos), which I like better than the black box. I believe I have one new model and one old.
Amazon's order page now shows "NOTE: The same performance between 01 and 02 version. Randomly shipped from Amazon warehouse."
The weaker and shorter brackets do affect the use/performance of the camera; therefore, the statement is not accurate. I will contact Reolink to see if I can get the stronger bracket before I install.

Every time I’ve opened the app after setting up the camera (which seemed way more difficult than it should have been) it try’s to load and says connection failed. Then when you try again it works. There is some lag time but that’s to be expected. Installing the hardware was very easy but linking the camera was more ridiculous than I thought it would be. And the direction book wasn’t much help. There are how to videos on the web site that were helpful. it didn’t come with an SD card. It needs one so why not include it? Add it and adjust the price. And the lag does cause issues when the motion alarm sends you a message by the time you get the picture up whatever moved can be gone. I got notified and clicked right away as my wife drove off out of our garage by the time it loaded she was down the street and out of sight.

Pros: Good picture quality and field of view. Great battery life - we have it connected to the solar panel. The camera barely drops off 100% charge. App is decent, also works on PC and Alexa well.
Cons: The pan and tilt function through the app leaves a bit to be desired. There is a couple second delay. Trying to get your view right just right can be frustrating due to this. I always overshoot the area I'm attempting to see. The motion detection work well but there is no delay feature. We have it over our back yard. When we let the dog out, we end up with 30 alerts within 10 minutes! I get it, there's motion. A couple alerts within that short of a time-frame will suffice.
Improve the software and it will be a solid basic set-up.

This has it all. You can tell your smart tv (I use a Chromecast) to stream it on the big screen. You can really screw with folks by yelling over the intercom, triggering a loud audible alarm, or just a good old fashioned follow them around with the camera. It has 355° rotation on the x and y axis, digital zoom, night vision, eeeevryting. My only beef is they should have an app that integrates better with smart devices. I want to do all that fun stuff from my tv remote. That would make it 5 stars. Oh, also this is my second reolink cam so now I have a grid of both cameras at the same time on my app which is pretty cool but I'm sure most other software does that as well. I'll probably by another. I haven't used the solar panel yet. Works with regular phone charger USB micro cable.

I bought 2 of these for the house along with 2 wifi extenders. I get really great signal with just my Asus router, but these would not work properly for some reason despite showing excellent signal quality. I have an expensive router and good extenders, so can't blame them.
They only with 2.4GHz, but the others are the same and this might explain the picture.
Cons-
The motion detection only works for a few meters away (~10-12ft).
Picture quality only works with lowest setting despite great reception.
Cameras disconnect randomly.
One was defective after 1 day and replaced.
Moving camera from app is very laggy. Like 3 seconds to response laggy.
Only records 8 seconds despite 30 second setting on cloud.
No option for continuous recording. (battery and solar, so expected this)
Cheap mount feels very flimsy. Someone can easily throw something to knock it down.
Speaker is almost pointless. The sound is terrible.
Mic is okay enough, but not good.
Pros-
Solar panel can keep them at 100% charge every day.
Completely wireless.
Moves around to view the entire area.
Night vision is pretty good. Color night vision is also pretty good.
Can view it from my phone, TV, chrome cast.
Cheap cloud storage.
I was really excited, but after installing, I regret the purchase. I would not call these reliable. They are maybe 3ft away from the repeaters inside the house and basically have terrible wifi reception that leads them to be very poor.
If the manufacturer included a good wifi chip with enough power and a decent antenna, they would be a perfect 10 (I don't need a speaker).

I wanted this product to be a camera powered option living in FL it's notorious for power outages. I also wanted a Wi-Fi solution so I didn't have to run a ton of wires everywhere. Well that dream was a false dream with this camera. I was literally 30 ft from my router and the 3 cameras I had, not one of them maintained a connection with my internet. That is sad to say considering this cost as much as it's hardwire counterparts.
Picture quality is alright, not the most crisp picture unless you throw plenty of light. Night vision is about as good as a first generation cell phone camera in low light.
I would not recommend buying this unless you are using this indoors with an extremely strong 2.4 GHz signal. Most routers now are dual or triple band to get more area. If this camera had and option to hardwire if the wifi doesn't work, it would have been a solid option with a solar power option.
I'm off to go run hardwires everywhere and use Argus instead.

Instructions for installation were clear and the camera installed easily. After a few days of operation it seems to be maintaining charge at or near 100% through the nighttime and maintaining sufficient connection with my WIFI to display live video and sound. Regarding charge state, the app includes a battery percent charge state, which is a nice feature. Installation to other devices is easy as well, requiring only that you scan the stored pattern and enter the ID and password. Unfortunately, although the high resolution image is very clear, the higher resolution setting only works for a few seconds before the Reolink software kicks it back to the low-res mode with a "Network Unstable" message (the network is not unstable). Also, I found the plastic mount to be cheaply built, to the extent that gusting wind impacts the stability of the image (although the fix to replace it with real hardware is simple enough). My biggest frustration is the lack of support for port setting, so that I can set up forwarding and view the camera remotely on the same third-party app that I use for my other IP cameras. That's not to say that you can't view the camera remotely; just that you have to use Reolink's app that only works with their own cameras.

I am constantly being told to switch to Fluent mode...if I can connect at all. The cameras are directly on the outside wall behind the mesh routers. These are the only outside devices that have issues connecting.
Even so, I would still recommend if you are looking for a non paid subscription camera. Just keep your fingers crossed you can connect when you want to!

Camera hardware seems solid, save for the WiFi. TP-Link Archer AX3000 (802.11ax/WiFi6) router in center of the house, and it drops to "Fluent" mode. So buying it for 1080p was a waste of money. It also can't even connect to a 5Ghz WiFi signal, at least not to my router. My phones and laptops have a very strong signal where the camera is placed, so it makes no sense why it can't get a stronger signal. Speaking of which, I can't find ANYWHERE in the software to measure the signal strength the camera is receiving. So adjusting the antennae is a shot in the dark.
One more hardware knock - while shopping for this camera I was under the impression it had 360 degree motion, as in it could keep spinning around and around - not so. It hits 359 degrees and stops, and you have to spin back around completely the other way.
Software sucks for a $160 camera. Wyze coming in at $50 a camera with no PTZ is miles ahead. I can't see where to schedule, you have to click 3 times to get back to the cloud recordings after a trigger notification, it can't track motion, there's no schedule to have it look around at pre-determined times, of course no off-camera hardware to trigger recording, it can't tell if it's a leaf blowing by or the UPS man, etc etc etc. Reolink has a long way to go before I invest anymore. This was my test subject before replacing my ArloGo 4G LTE camera with a Reolink PTZ 4G LTE version of this camera.

The solar power won't charge the camera battery in cold weather. You need to take the camera inside to charge the battery. DO NOT BUY if you live in a cold climate. After 6 months camera Camera stopped working, won't connect to wifi. Contacted the company customer service department and I keep getting questioned by different people on trying to reset the camera when we determined that the reset button does not work. They still won't transfer me to the return department for a replacement. I CANNOT recommend this company's products.
Update: finally after a few weeks they replaced the camera and it works again. Just wish customer service did not give the runaround so much

3.0 out of 5 stars Motion detection needs serious work but it looks great.

I got this camera to keep an eye on my garden after someone stole most of my fruits and veggies last year.
The camera arrived quickly and was sort of easy to install. I had to craft a stand for the solar panal mount to mount to since it is on the North side of my house and needed to get above the roof line.
The camera was easy to set up and get connected, but it constantly tells me to switch it to fluent (low quality) due to bandwith even though it runs smoothly at full tilt highest settings. This makes me think it isn't really meant to be left on the clear (1080) setting at all. But it does look great both during the day and at night.
The solar panal works great, battery is alway full at only loses 3% or so of the battery overnight. Charges even on dark cloudy days.
The one thing that is bad about this system is the motion detection. I have it pointed over my garden and at my garage doors. Behind my garage (100 feet) is a road and it picks up every single car that drives down that road, but does NOT pick up someone walking up my driveway and right into my garage to steal my stuff. It also takes way to long to activate... something like 8-10 seconds even with the advice they give for fixing this.
So overall, it is a great camera if you want to know you have already been robbed and don't need evidence that it happened.
Won't tell you someone is about to rob you, wob't tell you if you are being robbed, but will take a great video of something that seems to vanish without a trace and if you want video of tiny things far off in the distance barely moving.

I like everything about this camera except for two things.
1. Video is 15 fps which makes for choppy video.
2. It has no optical zoom.
Other than that it's a good little camera that will do it's job. But I really wish it had 30 fps or even 24 fps. I won't be buying anymore because of the low frames per second. In this day and age we should be getting 30 fps across the board. But manufacturers want to cut corners. You can not cut corners with the sensors and have 15 fps.
I haven't taken the SD card out yet to see the quality of the video so I'm hoping it's better. I'm hoping it can read license plates. I'll report back... 3 stars until I playback video from SD card. If the video quality is good then I'll give more stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Camera ok, mounting bracket cheap garbage

This camera functions ok. Picture quality is decent.
I find the controls are confusing and not intuitive, difficult to move the camera around when viewing and response time is very slow with a delay. No real instructions as typical w this imported stuff. So it takes much delicate maneuvering to get the camera pointed to the right place. Frustrating.
The distance to connect w my wifi was decent.
Solar battery has functioned well after three months.
The mounting bracket is horrible. Unbelievably cheap and brittle plastic. And this camera has some weight to it so they really messed up with this bracket. It cracked when installing and now the camera frequently falls off and lays on the ground. I have not yet figured out a replacement mounting method.
I do not recommend due to useless mounting bracket and lag time described above and am currently looking for a replacement camera.

I had high hopes for these after an attempted break in of our house. We live in a wooded community so we are a little isolated. I bought four cameras and solar panels. They were easy to install and set up, lots of info in YouTube. What I don't like is that they are only good up to 30 feet, and that's not much, 50 would be much better. And sometimes the sensors don't even activate the cameras! When they do there is a several second delay. For example, someone will appear on my porch but it didn't catch them coming up the 9 steps. The microphones are very sensitive so you can hear everything around. And the night vision is also surprisingly quite clear! The daytime picture quality is pretty poor, even only up to 30 feet. You won't be reading any license plates with these. But for checking around my property before bed, or checking out a strange sound outside at night, or during the day, they work. I use their cloud service, and it's ok, but I'd also recommend using SD cards as well.

This product could be better with some better firmware upgrades. I’ve see it miss people walking passed my house. It would be nice to have motion tracking, but maybe that is something offered at a higher price point for another project. I’m considering returning it because it seems to miss a lot of motion in front of my house.
On the software, it needs some upgrades, it would be nice if the picture and app could rotate to landscape view; ie turning your phone or table into a landscape view.

I am surprised at the low grade resolution and responsiveness of this and the rest of the wireless cameras that people say they use for viewing bird feeders. The picture is jumpy. The pan/tilt is slow. When you take a picture with it, it gives you the whole screen...not the zoomed shot you wanted.
And, it took four E Mails and two phone calls to China to get it set up.
I eventually decided to get a 12 MP PoE camera from the same company. Much better picture but no remote pan/tilt and it has the same problem with zoom on pictures.
Generally the technology of this isn't where I would expect it to be. Maybe in two or three years...
What I want...at least 20 MP. Wireless. Much better response...smoother video. Immediate response on pan/tilt. A snapped picture should show you the view you are seeing.

The pan action is very difficult to control. Extremely sensitive and the slightest touch move fast and not always the way you want it to go. You probably wouldn’t be able to identify anyone unless they are within 15 feet of the camera. So far I haven’t been able to connect my camera to my iMac. I’ll probably have to call support for that. Even connecting to my iPhone wasn’t exactly a walk in the park. But it finally connected. Overall 3 stars may be a little high but I’m thinking I’ll get better at the panning as I work with it. I will update this review once I see how the solar panel does for charging. I’m leaving the camera on 24/7 to see if it will keep charged. Stay tuned!

The only way I can preserve the battery is to turn the motion detection off and not login to the camera too often, which defeats the purpose of having a security camera. Overall pretty good camera. Unfortunately not as high quality as I would have expected for $150 (with solar panel). The plastic mounts that attach the camera to the roof are cheap junk. Will probably look into a metal upgrade in the near future. The solar panel arrived 8 days after the camera and expected arrival date so that was rather irritating. Didn’t make sense to mount the camera without a power source so had to wait the extra 8 days for that. Overall, would probably go with another manufacturer next time I’m looking for a security camera. Would pass on these.

So, this works! It is not hard to setup and I am happy with the performance at this price. Being completely wireless makes this a solution for hard to monitor areas that getting power to is difficult. If your camera can be unplugged (because you ran an external power cable, it is useless. Anything can be defeated but if the camera is placed high enough it becomes difficult to do without projectiles. As such I recommend it. When you combine off site recording storage it will not matter if the camera is disabled after the fact. Plus it has a deterrent value. The only real negative is that it is a closed software system so that you are really locked into the OEM package. Since it is battery powered you cannot have it live IP monitored (it sleeps when not triggered by PIR). The delay on the trigger for wake up is only a a second, but enough that when you place the camera you need to allow enough area overlap so that if someone enters the area it will trigger prior to the property area you actually care to control. Even so I have few "false" alarms but do not use an alert feature. The camera serves to record the event that triggered "other" alarms for review later. No regrets adding this to other monitoring devices to make a holistic security solution. I would give it 5 stars if the software was not locked to OEM interrogation.
****Solar panel (solar charger, USB based but 6V instead of 5) died this week after only 6 months of operation and no major storms (no hail damage etc). Panel is completely dead (which is a little strange). No damage to the panel, the cable, etc. Just stopped working (dead camera). Tested camera with external usb power pack and it still works fine. However 6 months for a panel is ridiculous, will see what they offer for warranty but I have my doubts based on prior reviews.

However, if you try to access the playback on SD card, it won't let you by saying - Failed to load video info. Please tap to retry. - and 2 out of 3,237, it will load the footage but then it does the error again everytime you tap on the actual footage. 1 out of 86,372 attempt, footage would play but pauses every 2 seconds so that you can't really see what is going on. Also, the microsd module is faulty. It will record half of the footage in pixelated green more than occasionally, while cloud footage is fine. All these is to force you to subscribe cloud plan. 2.0 out of 5 stars High pitched whine when talking, bad customer service

Where to start?
Unboxing, set up, and installation were fairly simple. Installed 64 GB card, pulled out the ladder, positioned camera where I wanted it, inserted screws and mounting bracket.
Installed application on my smartphone, turned on application on app Smart cloud, got Alexa to recognize the camera. Proceeded to put the camera through its paces to make sure it was positioned correctly etc. Had a friend stand outside while I was inside, and used the push to talk, and got a massive whining feedback reverb noise through my phone, which my friend outside said he could also hear. Called Amazon customer service, after 20 minutes with customer service they transferred me over to Reolink customer service, sat on hold for an hour and 47 minutes until I finally hung up. Then emailed customer service including two different video clips of the camera and the noise. 2 days later got an email response, advising me to try certain things to fix the feedback noise. Tried the fixes in the email none of them worked. Emailed customer service back again advise them that none of those fixes worked. Then they suggested that my Wi-Fi wasn't strong enough my modem wasn't good enough. So I replaced the modem and the Wi-Fi router with new units, even though there was nothing wrong with the old units. Since I put in a new modem and router I had to resync all of my smart devices. Including my ring cameras ring doorbell smart light bulbs three different Alexa devices, and my phones, plus I also had to get the ladder out again remove my three Rio link cameras, and resync those. Only to have the feedback whine continue.
Needless to say I was not a happy camper after all that. That was half of my day off was spent resyncing my smart devices, to a new modem and router that, apparently I didn't have to replace. I took another video from my cell phone and sent it to Rio Link customer service again. Advising them this time that it is my opinion that there is something wrong with the camera. And I'm waiting to hear back with regards to what they intend to do about it.
Odd little side note, I also have a Rio link spotlight camera, and when I use the speaker function on that device it is always popping and crackling and hissing, but no feedback noise.
Another odd side note, when I have a Bluetooth device attached or connected to my phone in operation, I don't get the feedback noise from the PT camera. Unfortunately I can't walk around with a Bluetooth device permanently attached to my phone. Not overly thrilled with these devices, also it appears their customer service is overseas in England or Europe. Which is why there is a long response time in replies.

Very slow to load live video upon opening the app even though my internet is fast and the cameras are close to the wifi points. When trying to livestream in high-quality, I keep getting a warning saying my internet speed isn't fast enough. When you first go into the app, you have select a camera to play the livestream, and often times, there is a playback error, forcing me to click play again in hopes that it will start working. Usually it works afterwards, but this adds to the time it takes before you can start viewing who's at your front door. Playback on recorded video also has problems playing sometimes as well, forcing me to keep hitting "play" before it works. The motion detection is also unreliable. Sometimes it would record and sometimes it wouldn't. I had one camera that hasn't recorded for over a month, even though it has been recording find before that without me adjusting the sensitivity. Now, another one of my cameras is completely dead, even though it has a solar panel. I understand if it dies in the middle of the night, but even during the daytime, it's still dead. When I move to a new house, I would definitely not buy Reolink.

Many people have commented about these cameras, but I keep getting critical alerts for vehicle in driveway…the problem is, the vehicle in question is my truck which hasn’t moved for 2 days. Then I got a critical alert, person in driveway…well, I do love my dogs and consider them members of the family - but identified as persons?
I am still so disappointed with nest cameras and am looking for a surveillance solution not something adding to complexity. I thought Reolink might be a possibility, but it’s not. Somewhere there have to be people like me who want a do it yourself surveillance system with different types of cameras - a plus for Reolink, different power profiles - solar, wired, battery - another plus for Reolink, but in the end the app and camera controls are clunky and slow.
To control the PTZ is so frustrating because of the lag. Why can’t it have a couple of saved positions so that after you have camera you can easily return it. I also tried installing one of the cameras on another Wi-Fi network and it kept failing - so there is a chance the camera will not work for you at all. Why no cloud? I realize I live in a rural area, but my cameras really don’t end up being mounted where it is convenient to mess with SD cards.
Anyway, great concept, very glad I did not pay anywhere close to full price thanks to treasure truck, but this camera seems to be about 10 years too late. In 2010 it would have been an excellent option, but as with all technology users deserve and expect more. I can’t recommend the camera, but if your expectations are low and the solar appeals to you application then it may work. The secret to this camera is low expectations!

I have this hooked up along side with my Eufy l20. I’m trying to decide between the two and stick with a brand.
So far, this camera is not working out. The motion detection is terrible. It either catches every single little leaf or nothing at all. Often when it does detect a person, it’s only when they are leaving the frame. So you really only see their backside. I can walk up right beside the camera and it won’t catch me. The night vision has terrible ghosting too.
Another big complaint is the wifi. This thing has to be very close to your router or it won’t get a signal. Often times you can’t even access the camera and if you do, Goodluck viewing anything in 1080p. You can’t really update the antenna because the port is recessed. I’m going to try a high gain antenna and a male to female adaptor. If that doesn’t work this is going back.
I also want to mention the solar panel. The port in the camera to accept the cable is very poorly designed. I thought everything was good to go until I realized it wasn’t charging. Upon further inspection, I noticed the rubber sleeve wasn’t allowing the cable to plug in all the way. After playing with it, I got it to work but it’s very sensitive. I feel a breeze could be enough disconnect the cable and connection. This is probably going back.

Edit: I have since talked with customer service for hours and hours, been directed to another department and spent literally weeks trying things over and over again that they call customer support. The problem has continued happening even after resetting the devices a million times, but they think that's an acceptable result: taking down your camera every few months to reset the entire thing then repeating again in a few months when it stops working for no apparent reason. I have explained multiple times that this is not an acceptable end result for me. I have to have someone else remove the cameras as I'm disabled and can't climb up to do it myself. That's why I bought pricey cameras in the first place.. it was supposed to be set it and forget it! Cheaper cameras could've given these results. Still trying to figure out what they're going to do but I imagine they closed my ticket since I got covid really badly (high risk) and couldn't do their trouble shooting for a couple weeks. So I'll probably have to start all over again. I'm changing my rating to 1 star due to the awful experience so far dealing with customer support. I'll update if they ever improve...
I purchased 6 of these in total and only half of them work (literally) and one is an indoor camera that's wired. I am disabled and can not physically go outside every 3 months to reset the cameras, and frankly with as much as these cost I think that's a ridiculous expectation. I have already had to have one replaced and now 3 more aren't working and I'll have to try to contact the third party insurance to get them repaired because the seller didn't even want to send the first replacement, and I doubt they'll be willing to replace 3 more. Plus, I'll have to pay someone to put them up because I can't, so for me... Definitely not worth the money. I bought these so I could feel safe knowing myself and my house were protected, but I should've just stuck with Ring products or something more basic that stays connected apparently. I have missed at least five major incidents that the cameras failed to catch and could've gotten robbed and they would've missed it but luckily my car was empty. Two of these I would excuse but one was literally right in front of my cameras in my driveway and the other was just behind my driveway. I turned the sensitivity all the way up and it was still missing events involving humans, but never failed to pick up the cat walking by.
Major disappointment. Terrible customer service so far and a terrible product. The first one broke within 4 months or less and I've had the others about a year and a half now...

All pros are listed in a description. Below are the problems:
1. Frame rate is 5 Fps. So you can see only back of the courier who dropped the package
2. Cloud gives you resolution 640x352. No way to recognize a face from 50 ft. Why to capture @1080p?
3. Position control is a special story. You have 2 options:
a. Go to the garage, take ladder, reach the camera, position it.
b. Spend 5 - 20 minutes trying to position it from the phone, go to the garage, take ladder, reach the camera, position it.
4. No voice cancellation. Even at the extremely calm weather you will hear wolf howl if you enable sound.
Most confusing part. I don't understand designers. Camera is unable to capture even moderate quality image if object is moving. What is a point to start recording at all?

Biggest disappointment is the motion detection, would not detect a person within the first 5-10s of event, and typically does not detect person walking straight towards the camera, only sideways. It's similar to another one I reviewed recently and returned. Even bigger disappointment that reviews didn't seem to capture these deficiencies.
App is somewhat lacking, not intuitive and event videos would not load sometimes. Consumes alot of data for low def video: the fluent (640 x 360) is pretty much useless and still transmits at roughly 200-300kbps while the clear (1080p) at 1-2mpbs, this compares to my Wyze (SD, think 480p) at 30-60kbps and HD( think 720p) at 80-120kbps. This wouldn't be an issue if using wifi, but can consume alot of data when away, not to mention battery.

Only picks up when object is already too close. I have argus2 which does much better than this. The worst part is there is no way to save the guarding position. So if you change position to take a look at something, you will spend so much time adjusting it again to guard point. I wish software supported that at least.
The solar panel works well and keeps it charged but other than that it is a disappointment for me after being used to argus2 which is better.

I bought this. Setting them up is not a problem. The issues is that they don't constantly record. They can't or the battery would go dead. If you set the sensitivity too high, it records a lot and drains the battery. But if I set the sensitivity too low to save the battery, then it doesn't record things that it should. I have it in my gate area for security. When motion is triggered, the camera wakes up and starts recording motion. It misses half of what happened. Like a ups truck pulls up. By the time the camera starts recording, the driver already dropped the package and is leaving. But, if I set it more sensitive, it records every car going by and drains the battery. I ended up buying a bigger solar charger to keep the battery up. If I had known all this, I wouldn't have bought it.

I bought this camera because I could pan and tilt it. It also has free cloud storage. The problem with the unit is the motion sensors are on the side of the unit and it takes seconds to boot up once motion is detected. I cut my vinyl siding and put in a mounting block for the camera and mounted the solar on the south side of my house. Everything works but since the camera is centered on my walkway I only get video of people leaving. As they approach my front door the sensor doesn't pick them up until they turn towards the door and by the time it boots up I only get a video of their backs as they leave. It's a poor design. Support tells me I have to move the camera so it's pointing across their path. I'm not going to keep drilling holes in my new siding to find a location where it works. I'll have to supplement it with a ring doorbell. I would not recommend this to anyone. If it doesn't record motion directly in front of it, what good is it?

All sorts of piece meal “try this” emails from the manager manufacturer. Nothing worked. No matter what, the phone with app had to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
Bought a ring camera and put it on the same Wi-Fi network. Instantly found regardless of what network the phone was on.
This is how it should be.

Negative stars!!! After 2 weeks of researching and reading reviews, I settled on Reolink instead of Arlos due to price, the indoor camera was PTZ and I wanted to view my cameras in one app. I purchased 3 cameras; E1 for indoors and 2 Argos PT w/solar panels. The indoor (E1) camera works great with immediate connection, even with poor cell reception. The Argos PT's, for outside started out working, then stopped connecting after a week. I rarely have a tech issue I can't work out; I deleted the cameras in the app AND in the "Client" portal then reinstalled. Connection is spotty at best. Cameras are close to router, under cover from the elements with alerts turned off and panels are charging batteries to full. Connects about 2% of the time in the app after 20-40 attempts-it will DRAIN your cell battery quickly!
Reolink is a company in China with NO customer support in US via phone. Twice, I contacted the support number provided in L.A (818.697.9822, routed to India. First attempt they wanted to know when I purchased my cameras-tried to tell me 2 weeks was to late to return wanted to connect to my computer and give them all my personal information..."we want to get to know our customers...we might send you documents...Amazon has your information..."-very sketchy. Second attempt, I was told there would be a tech support fee since Reolink is located in China. I can't box these things up quick enough for return and very happy I used Amazon instead of direct company purchase. Buyer BEWARE with Reolink.

They basically said my camera was to far from the modem and or I had slow internet, which is the same thing they say on here when anyone complains about this problem, ask if there's a better antenna and they say its not needed because your camera, well you know the rest of the spiel. So anyway I figured ok I'll send it back thinking I must have received a faulty camera right from the start. The second one is EXACTLY the same. To be fair there support team has not gotten back to me the second time a round but I'm pretty sure what there going to say.

We spent much time troubleshooting the problem with reolink, to the point of exceeding the 30 day warranty for a full refund. After exhausting all reolink testing, reolink engineers determined the problem to be a compatibility issue with the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy Note 9 mobile phones, for which there is no fix at this time. Not sure if other phones are experiencing the same issue. Reolink offered to refund at 100%, but at our expense for return shipping. Booooo! Amazon saved the day! Not only did they refund at 100%, they scheduled a free UPS pickup! Thank you Amazon! BTW -- We replaced the 2 reolink pan and tilt cameras with 4 from Soliom. They work great, are made better and best of all, the audio feature works as designed with our Samsung phones!

I have used couple other type of reolink camera at my place of business and this particular one in residential enviornment. Both of the cams have been worst than each other. The picture quality is just horrendous. This only connects to 2Ghz wifi so there is a lag while playing the video. The cloud subscription is way expensive then google nest subscription and this only allows 30 days and also there is a limit to how many GB you can save on cloud.
I sign up for the free subscription for 1 gb and 1 camera. Would also like to note that free subscription only includes 1 camera and only 1 gb of storage. That is it. But the video quality on cloud is pretty bad too. You can not make out faces unless you know the person that is in the recording. The downloaded video will still have lag as well.
The connected to wifi is pretty weak too. I was about 30 feet away from the google router without any obscrution in between the cam and the router but still got 50 signal only. 50% signal at 2ghz will reduce the speed GREATLY.
I will just never understand how this camera can have 2000+ positive reviews..
I feel sorry to write this negative review but this company deserves it.

However, the app showed always fully charged, with 6500ma I suppose plenty of battery power, when you'd think the battery would have problems staying charged but, that is not the case, the solar panel seems to be more than enough. Hmmmmm? Maybe the app lied too and their is not enough power to run the Camera and I just solved the connection issues?!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Reolink's Cloud storage is useless
Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2021

I just purchased a Reolink Argus PT surveillance camera and successfully installed and configured it. The camera works as advertised and one of the reasons I purchased this camera is that you can remotely change the camera orientation. Unfortunately there is one fatal flaw in the Reolink world that greatly limits the utility of this camera (as well as other Reolink cameras. That flaw is that Reolink only uploads the first 8 seconds of the camera's video. I just found out when I contacted Reolink customer support. Only being able to see the first 8 seconds of each uploaded video renders their cloud storage useless. I had expected the entire video to be uploaded so I could view them from my PC and download anything I wanted to preserve. Had I known about the 8 second limitation, I would have looked at other brands.
The camera itself works great and I am able to view the camera videos from my cell phone and ipad. The Reolink application is well designed (it works better than viewing the videos using a browser). But to archive any of the videos on my PC, I have to download it to my cell phone and then email the video to myself. I also worry about how much I can store on my 64 GB card, so storage management could become an issue.
For me, it is a great surveillance camera, but it's utility is greatly diminished due Reolink's completely useless cloud storage.

Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2020

First of all let me say this, I install CCTV (licensed) systems and alarms for a living since 2004. So I am VERY experienced with camera systems etc.
As of today, 1/9/22... I am taking my star rating down from 2 stars to 1 star. I am going to list the pros first..and then of course the cons. The cons are so bad that it destroys the entire rating overall.
PROS:
1: Ease of installation - very quick and easy to install
2: Easy software and setup on devices.
3: The wireless connection AND solar charging is the biggest pro here as it allows for installation almost anywhere withing range of your wireless router.
4: The Pan-Tilt-Zoom feature makes it easy to set the camera to the angle you want it without physical adjustments. There is also a con to this below.
5: Decent night vision
6: Decent 2-way audio
CONS:
1: Unless I got 2 bad units, these things burn SD Cards up 32GB and above once every few months.
2: The motion detection is so bad it DEFEATS the purpose of having cameras. MAJOR ISSUE!! See below.
3: The field of view for these cameras is TERRIBLE. (see pictures). More details below.
4: The Pan-Tilt-Zoom is manual operation only. It will not follow a moving object and it cannot be set to "scan" and area. In other words, you need to be looking at the camera in your app to use it...
5: The SD cards are stored INSIDE the cameras. Mount them high enough to where they cannot be "swiped" off the wall...or you lose everything. I see no auto feature in the client or app that has auto storage to the cloud or device.
Now, to get the with BREAKING issue here... The motion detection. The company that makes these responded to me telling me these cameras have a fast detection time within their field of view...but I STRONGLY DISAGREE. Aside from having the field of view of a 1990s analog lens, the motion detection is VERY SLOW and the time it takes from detection to actually recording is so bad that you miss important details of an event. This is because the field of view is so terrible..and because the time it takes to actually record is bad.
The pictures of the FedEx guy is when the recording ACTUALLY started. That's right, the recording didn't start nor did it detect motion until the FedEx guy was walking AWAY FROM THE CAMERA and also already setting down the 50lb box. Neither camera picked up the FedEX guy APPROACHING the camera... Look at the driveway!! The camera NEVER detected the FedEx guy walking towards the camera with the box!! When I pull my SUV into the garage and have the camera angled out to the street, it does not start recording me until I am just pulling into the garage. Look at the mounting position I recently moved the cameras to. I moved these here to make use of the MOST coverage for where I want. The front porch and the driveway. The area or field of view these cameras cover are still terrible. My old 1024x768 cameras these were to replace actually have a better coverage angle and FAR SUPERIOR motion detection.
A few events. A couple months ago I had a neighbor a few streets down come and introduce himself. Since I live on the main street and in a nice neighborhood (doesn't mean no crime), he saw my main camera facing the street (old position). He had a 68 Chevy truck he had just restored stolen out of his driveway and another neighbors camera showed the car they rode in going by my house but couldn't get a clear view of what kind of car. When I went to check mine, I found the SD card had burned up a few days before.
Another event, a homeless guy was walking around one night opening cars that were unlocked and taking change. He got my neighbors car and tried to get into mine. Even RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA for the driveway, the motion detection did NOT pick up and start recording until he had turned and walked away from my SUV....it never picked him up walking to it...
These cameras are practically junk and I HIGHLY recommend passing these up.

I received the device on July 27, but I could not get it link it up with my wifi. I unsuccesfully requested Reolink technical assistance (if you want to call it that) almost everyday (sometime twice a day). After 10 days of this, I am returning it.
Here is a brief description of my efforts to get assistance. I have had 19 email exchanges with support@reolink.com and one phone call from I think China. The phone call was unsuccessful because we had a bad connection. All email exchanged provided inadequate instructions for how to set up the device. The problem is that the instruction are unclear and not even accurate. When I described where instructions failed to them, I received additional inacurrate instructions. They wasted a great deal of my time. The last straw was today, when alias "Mark" asked for my userid and password. NO ONE, not even my phone provider nor my device manufacturer has ever asked for that information!

1.0 out of 5 stars Connection problems even though its within 30' of my router.

First, the good attributes with this WiFi camera:
1) It has an excellent, high-quality picture.
2) It has the ability to be moved (pan & tilt) which is not for setting up and getting the exact position you want. However, in real time mode, there is a lag time, between the input and when the camera moves. Its not much of a lag time, but its not immediate. About a second delay.
3) It senses movement well, and can let you know on your phone or tablet, when it senses movement.
4) Was relatively easy to setup, although it took several attempts for the camera to recognize the QRT code that's needed for the camera to be able to complete the initial setup. Installation is very easy.
Now the part attributes of this camera:
1) For me I had intermittent connection problems, even though the camera is on the same floor level as my WiFi router (which is a high-performance broad band router, located just 30' from the camera. Sometimes it would connect fine, without any problems, and then other times it would not connect at all.
2) Sometimes it does connect, but fails to play back previously recorded videos.
3) A few times when I want to get a video playback I get a green screen or pixelated video.
4) The audio quality of the two-way communications is not too great. The camera's built-in speaker is ok, as it works but it's not the easiest to hear. The sound quality of the microphone pickup on the camera though is very good.
5) The fact that it only supports WiFi 2.4GHz is also a negative, as 2.4GHz can have a lot more interference in the signal. It should support a dual band WiFi.
6) I sent a message to support over these issues TWICE already and have not as yet heard back from them and its been several weeks already.
Overall, I like the video quality of the camera, including its night vision, but its intermittent connection problems are a real pain, ESPECIALLY if you have someone at your front door, and you cannot connect to the camera to see who it is. This is very frustrating. And the camera is located just 30' from the WiFi router that is on the same level as the camera. So there's really no excuse for it not being able to connect sometimes. Most times however, it does connect fine, without any problems. But during those times that it just refuses to connect, that is a real pain to have to deal with! So its not the most reliable WiFi camera I have ever used.
However, even if you cannot connect to it, it does do a good job of recording video during detected movements. But that doesn't do you much good, if you have intermittent connection problems!

Terrible set up and terrible wifi range. The setup routine is a joke. To change wifi SSID you have to reset the camera and start from scratch. The working wifi range is 3-40 feet, beyond that, disconnects at random. Alexa integration is poor. The Reolink skill rating reflects that. When working, and shown on an Alexa compatible device, it crashes if buffering occurs or the camera is moved past the working wifi range.
In summary, not ready for Prime time. No pun intended. Reolink, you have some serious work to do to bring this product up to acceptable standards, especially at this price.

No where did it say that I would be purchasing a used camera with broken seal at full price. I don't know if this falls under false advertising, but it surely is not ethical. I guess this is one of those amazon buyer beware scenarios. This is what happens when you try to save with a 10% coupon from amazon instead of just purchasing from the reolink directly. Now I have to decide if its worth the hassle to take it back and try and get another one or eat the loss.
As far as product goes, I already have another one of these and they work pretty good.
Biggest issue is No third party API support due to reolinks failure of BMS. They state that app developers are not capable of managing their solar powered device efficiently enough. Yes, try not to laugh at that. There are ways around it but for most people, they simply may not want to do all of that, the proprietary software for the camera is pretty limited but it gets the job done. One other issue with this camera, is it will only connect to the reolinks cloud service, which is hosted by amazon. So if you are looking to integrate this camera into an existing system that isnt 100% reolink, this camera is probably not a good idea. One thing I noticed specifically with my cheap LG phone is the audio came in horribly, but that is a hardware issue as it comes through fine on iphones, samsung, and a windows machine. Other than that, this camera is actually really good. I turned the PID sensor to 90 instead of 80 and it was a bit more accurate.

This camera never made it where it was supposed to be installed in the house, the testing was done right out of the box inside the house with plenty of good wifi signal......no problem with distance, channel, etc other things that could inhibit it from functioning as it should. Recommendation is to pass on it.
