5.0 out of 5 stars Why The Negative Reviews??
Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2020

A PERFECT outdoor camera. What more do you need?

I have a couple Wyze cam pan's and love them. We needed something outside but don't have any outlets to use. Well so far we are on day 3 and at 96% which is great!! I have a solar panel to buy for $25 that I've read will keep it charged. Walah!

The setup was a breeze, the installation and mounting was SO easy, and the camera itself is very adjustable. Not sure why the negative reviews.

The quality is pretty good at 1080p. It's not as expensive security cameras, but it's more than enough to keep an eye on things day or night! It has no problem seeing our whole from yard at night too!

Great camera and you can't beat Wyze's price.

This is a fun camera to have. I really like the image quality and the way it feels in my hand (it has a nice solid weight to it). So far it has been reliable but I haven’t had it for long. I’ll give an update in a few months.

On my first day of using Wyze outdoor even found two mice that I have never seen before.

I just received my Wyze outdoor starter kit camera with the Wi-Fi base along with an add on Wyze outdoor camera and at this moment I can't say anything bad about this camera set-up. I live in an apartment and these are just what I was looking for to monitor activity on my deck and at my front door. The picture quality is really good and even though I had some trouble with the screws once I got the mounts up everything else was a breeze to set up. I'm impressed seeing that I've never had any type of camera set up before. My only suggestion is using a drill to tap a hole into the wood before you mount. The screws a a little tough to screw in and I ended up using a hammer half way through trying to screw in with a screwdriver. Once I tapped the screw a bit with the hammer screwing in the rest was a breeze. The mount only requires one screw. If you mount indoors on drywall they have wall anchors included for the mounting process.

Also the app is easy to download and set up. I wasn't prompted to pay for any type of online services which I like. I can use my cellphone to monitor and if I'd like, use an Amazon echo show too. The only thing is that the speaker on the camera is a little tinny and not very loud. I'm ok with that. My wifi range is great because I don't have a large area to cover. These are great for apartments and even though they are outdoor cams, you can use indoors too. I added two 32gb sd cards to the cameras and am going to add another sd card to the base station. I am very happy with my purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Battery life is MUCH better than expected!
Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2021

Full disclosure, I am a big fan of Wyze products. I love that they have created products that don't break the bank. I decided to give the outdoor cameras a try as we moved into a new home and wanted to keep an eye on the outdoor areas. After reading up on the devices, I was nervous that the battery life would be disappointing. However, I couldn't have been more wrong. I have now had 3 cameras up and running for 3 months straight...and each of them is still showing ~50% battery power left! Now, I do not pay for their monthly service (which I am sure would run down my battery much faster), as my wife and I always tend to have our phones with/near us, and only need to be notified when movement occurs (rather than all the time), and the 12s clips are plenty to know what is going on. So, the potential for 6 months of battery life...reliable notification...solid night vision (although make sure that the camera does not have anything close to it in the view...as that will show up really bright in night vision)...and the ease of charging (which I admittedly haven't to do yet) is exactly what I was hoping for. Very happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, got rid of Blink

I was waiting for Wyze to finally release wireless outdoor cameras.

I bought this kit to try them, and as with all things Wyze, I am not disappointed.

They work as advertised. Good Night vision, some false positives, picture quality is flawless, and the range to the base, while it is not as good a regular WiFi, it's still accurate.

Be aware that the base needs to be hardwired to a router/switch/gateway, it does not connect to the network via WiFi. For me that's not an issue because of a mesh system with 2 routers and 3 satellites each (so 6 satellites in total), which allows me a lot of flexibility for the location of the base and cameras.

I will be purchasing the 4 camera bundle soon as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A pretty dang good system....

I was a Logitech Circle 2 user for over two years. The Circle 2 was pretty good, it had flaws that it's design could not overcome but in general it served my home well. So if you are looking to move on from the Circle 2 you will find the Wyze Outdoor Cam bundle a good choice and one that has more improvements over the Circle 2. This review will be making a fair number of comparisons.

First off...I wanted to stick with a true wireless multi-camera (4) solution. SO that narrowed the list considerably. Basically only the WYZE Outdoor Cam could replace most all of the functionality of Logitech's Circle 2, make improvements and be cheaper to operate.

Cloud Storage
Person recognition
Notifications
Wireless, WiFi based system
Weather Proof

Areas where WYZE improves on Circle 2

Battery life - this is huge and was one of my major gripes with the Circle 2
Consistent Performance - The WYZE cameras are more predictable. Circle two sometimes would basically record non-stop clips until the battery was dead. Cameras were a bit buggy.
Smaller design, blends in with house more but still says..."Hey I am a camera! I am watching you."
Cheaper cloud service....MUCH cheaper....
Cheaper Camera. 39 vs 159
WYZE Magnetic mount works flawlessly, is sturdy and easy to mount. Circle 2 as owners will attest to,have a difficult mount that had mfg issues that caused many support calls for replacements. They broke easily.
Night vision appears more powerful

Places where WYZE falls a bit short (so far)

Phone app does not rotate in home screen.
Video Quality is not as good as Circle 2. (sort of expected, it is still good enough)
Field of View smaller, Circle 2 had a full 180 view.
No web browser app. You can via TInyCam if you have some a Android TV box. But Seems complicated.
Serviceable battery...it was nice to swap out the battery and keep going. As far as I can tell I have to bring in the WYZE camera and charge. Taking it out of service and opening a coverage hole. I may go with a 5th camera as a floater...because they are that inexpensive.

All in all I am very satisfied with the Wyze Outdoor Cam. It is a really excellent easy to install system with what appears to be excellent battery life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Setup, and Awesome performance.
Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2021

Setup was a breeze with my normal router. For those with 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz Wifi, turn off the 5 Ghz during setup, and turn it back on after so the 2.4 Ghz signal can easily be distinguished by the camera and receiver.

My furthest camera is about 70 feet away through 3 rooms on the other side of the house, but the camera was picked up well by the base station and feeds well. Motion detection is pretty advanced with AI feature to tell between packages, cars, and people, or pets and you can fine tune the recording triggers by what is moving, and where in the frame. With such feature, you can have this pointed at the street, and have it ignore passing cars and people walking along the sidewalk, so it won't dump your battery and fill your memory cards with normal day to day traffic.

It will last about 2 months before recharge when used at the front door, capturing each person who delivers a package or people arriving, and going in and out of the house. The back yard camera with less traffic sees about 3-4 months on a full charge. Recharging from 10% battery is about 1 hour on a provided USB charger.

Overall it has been extremely reliable and is always nice to get a ping notification on my iPhone each time there is motion at the front door, when mail or packages arrive. It reacts almost simultaneously with my door bell, so I can always check who is at the door in my smartphone without making the person outside wait.

I'd recommend this for anyone who needs a simple security and convenience solution.

Got these for my parents because they are “snow birds “ in the winter and they wanna be able to check on their house. Install is super easy. Just a suggestion when “pairing” the camera you have to have the camera legit right next to the base station or it has a hard time pairing. After done you can move the camera wherever. It’s only during the pairing stage keep next to base station. We installed one in the garage (huge 3 car) and it literally picks up the whole garage. The other we did on the back patio. Picks up yard. Porch. And side yard (super impressed with the span there) lastly we put one on the front porch. Again it’s coverage is amazing. Can see whole porch. Down the sidewalk and front yard area. Night vision is amazing as well!!!

A suggestion and a good one might I add.

These cameras are magnet held. Not screwed onto the base. Now it’s a very strong magnet don’t get me wrong. So when you attach the camera to its base. The base screws into the wall. The camera square part is magnet to the wall mount bracket. So it’s easy to take off to charge but also easy to take off and steal if you don’t have it mounted high up that someone can snag it. My ring security has bolts keeping it to the base so people can’t steal it. This brand doesn’t. Just as a heads up.

Downside however the speaker on its sucks. So if someone is at your front porch talking. It crackles sometimes on the phone app you’re looking at. You have a hard time hearing them. As far as you the owner talking to someone at the front porch you can’t hear for nothing. The volume is sooo weak it just sounds like a weird cracklings on the other end to the person standing at your front door. So if you’re wanting a camera to talk to people that are at your door, spend the extra money and buy a ring camera. If you just need a camera for security monitor purpose, definitely buy this!!!!!

Battery life is good not great. In the cold winter months we have found the battery drains more quickly. Summer it colds the charge a lot better. I’d say maybe every 2/3 months you have to pop them off take down and plug in to charge. Over night plug in works best because it needs 10+ hours to fully charge up. But then you’re good for 3 months.

I own an IT Services and computer store company. We install our own branded NVRs and cameras, mostly for businesses. Comparing a $1,500 system with a $200 Wyze camera setup is like comparing a Formula One car to a Camaro. Sure, they are both cars, but they have their own purpose. I bought these to install for a friend. No wires! Our NVRs require a single CAT6 for each camera, and I did not want to crawl through attics and crawl spaces. As long as you have a signal, you can put these cameras anywhere! They have batteries, so there's no need for even power! They have amazing picture quality for as inexpensive as they are. If we weren't drinking alcohol while we set them up, we would have had everything done within 30 minutes. This system is great for homes where you need some live video and minimal recording. A hard-wired setup is always more reliable; however, it just isn't as flexible as this Wyze camera setup. We recommend these systems in our store for home users who do not want to spend thousands on a traditional DVR/NVR setup.

Originally, I had a Wyze camera and decided to use it outdoor to watch a duck that nested outside of our front door. Once I got the outdoor covers though, I realized I couldn't make it work. I then bought these 2 outdoor cameras and I am so glad I did. The price and the quality are unbeatable. We have a Ring for our front door. It is good but I think it would not work well for what we are using the cameras for. We have one camera outside hidden monitoring the duck and one put up on the ceiling of our lanai to monitor our pool area where our cat hangs out. She has fallen in the pool several times and we worry about her not being able to get out as she gets older. This camera is amazing. The picture is awesome. The sound would be perfect if we didn't receive some random signal from something else electronic around us. It is as if someone has the same frequency for a radio. However, we really don't need it to have sound or to be able to talk to someone. We want to watch our cat and see when she is at the back door ready to come inside. The one watching the duck has no issues with sound or microphone. The duck actually looks at the camera when you talk to her! :-) We use the share options to let our family watch the duck too! We will use the "duck" cam somewhere else once she has moved on. Very happy I went with these two cameras.

In addition, I didn't use the screws to install either camera. The "duck" cam will be moved eventually and needed to be on the soffit of our house. I obviously do not want holes in the soffit especially when it is not a permanent camera spot. I used an outdoor, double-stick tape by 3M to put it in place. I did this also with the camera for our pool as I didn't want to use screws in the lanai cover. The tape is holding perfectly and the lanai cam will probably stay there with the tape.

The "duck" cam is viewed a lot throughout the day so I would say the battery runs down quickly. The lanai cam is viewed less and I have only a few motion detection settings set up so the battery went down to 17% in a little less than one month. Easy to pop the cam off and charge quickly and then replace it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to configure and install, completely wire free

This is my second Wyze camera, the first one is an indoor camera, I was happy with the video quality, I bought the second one for outdoor monitoring use.
Configuring the unit requires you to connect the base unit (the one with antenna) to your home network, once you did that, the setup of the base unit is straight forward, it will update itself with the latest firmware from the internet, and you will be able to use the Wyze app on your mobile device to add the new unit and the camera to your Wyze app.
You need to charge up your camera, it came with a sizable battery and can last for up to 3 months, it took me about three hours to charge it to 100%, once you have done that, the camera can operate wire-free, you can place it anywhere, and use the Wyze app to control it.

I find the picture quality to be excellent, it detects motion and records it for 12 seconds, you will be notified through the Wyze app if the motion is detected, so far, I find it accurate, I did not change any of the sensitivity before I install the unit, the default works well for me.

The wireless coverage of the base unit to the camera is good, my camera placed outdoor about 25 ft away from the base unit indoor, the reception and video display is smooth and quick.

You can always monitor the camera activities by using the app to connect it, if you want to continuously record the activities, you will need an SD card, the maximum size accepted is 32 G, it should last about 2 days continuous recording of video in 1080p format.

I am happy with the quality and design of the camera.

Wanted a rechargeable outdoor wireless camera for when I'm camping and the wildlife comes to visit.

Trieda different brand and it absolutely would not connect to my Samsung phone.

Saw comments where this one has 'travel mode' so I thought I'd give it a try.

Set it up with the base station and internet connection and then switched to travel mode. To my delight I'm able to put the base station away and connect my phone directly to the camera.

Perfect solution for what I wanted.

Other than that, solid build, great picture, awesome price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy setup, amazing image quality, and long battery life!

Style: 1 Camera KitVerified Purchase
I almost didn't buy this starter kit (along with an additional outdoor camera) after reading some of the negative reviews, but I already had 4 of the Wyze pan/tilt cameras and they have been awesome, so I took a chance.

So far, they have performed beyond my expectations. I never would have guessed that a battery-powered camera could be active enough to react to motion, record video clips, and display live video on demand and do so while conserving power so well. I put one camera on my back patio and the other near my front door. I get a lot more traffic from my family on the patio, so it makes sense that the battery has been used more on that one.

Immediately after receiving the cameras, I put them on chargers and they were fully charged within a couple of hours. After pairing them with the base station, I put them outside and started experimenting with the settings. It has now been over a week and the front door camera is at 94% battery capacity and the back patio camera is at 85% capacity. I was really worried that I'd need to charge them every week, but I'm going to run them dead and see how much I can get out of them. I'll provide an update on how many days each camera lasted on one charge, while producing many motion alerts and 15-second video clips per day.

I'm extremely happy with the performance, ease of setup, and overall quality of the cameras, as well as the Android app. I just purchased the "Plus" service for all 6 of my Wyze cameras, so I can enjoy the additional detection filters for people, packages, and vehicles.

These cameras make an excellent addition to any existing security system you may have, but Wyze also offers a monitored security service if desired. It is a well designed set of products and services.

*UPDATE* I finally had to charge the back patio camera after a solid 3 months of use. The key to long battery life is setting up a fine-tuned detection zone. The fewer false alerts you get, the longer the batter life. My front door camera hasn't needed a charge in over 4 months. The back patio gets a lot more traffic, so it always gets tripped by the kids or pets. I paid for the "Plus" service, so I'm not sure if that's needed to get all of the fine-tuning options.

This camera is AWESOME. I now have five Wyze cameras and they are the best brand by far: excellent quality, easy to use, and affordable. I have several other brands as well and Wyze is the hands-down best.

Battery life looks like it will last months, but not sure because only had it a few weeks so far.

Not quite sure why they use a base station instead of combining it with the camera for an all-in-one unit, but if it works great don't fix it! Probably did it so you can have multiple wireless cams at lowest cost.

I attached the removable magnetic base of the camera to a simple adjustable-width over-the-door hook (see pic) to create a unit that I can hang right over the top of my front door for wireless surveillance with no installation holes (which is great for renters). This gave me an over-the-door cam at one-third the price of the most popular over-the-door cam! And I monitor it from the same app as my indoor Wyze cams with no extra apps.

I would highly recommend to Wyze that they include a simple and cheap door hook like the one I used. (I took it out of an over-the-door closet door hook.) This provides another great way to use the camera for mere pennies in added expense.

The Arlo had a really nice picture (2k vs 1080P on the others) and it worked on my TVS and my Family Hub fridge but the battery life was poor and it cost too much. The Google Nest was kind of beefy and didn't connect to my fridge even though Google Nest is supported. The picture was pretty good but it was a bit pricey as well. I then went to some lower cost solutions like Blink and Wyze. I liked the Blink for it's compact size, it runs on AA batteries and the notifications were quick. The image quality and the app were a bit quirky though. The Wyze seemed to by far and away take better daytime and night time videos/pictures. The battery life seems pretty good so far as well. I like that the base station and cameras can use Micro SD cards to backup video. It was basically the most cost effective solution and I felt the app was pretty good. It can be slow loading the live feed and motion detection notifications can be slow at times as well. Ultimately for the picture quality and the price, the Wyze won out.

I have numerous Wyze cams on my property and in my house. This cam is perfect for some installations where you don't need to pan. Some users have complained that it doesn't have the options of other Wyze cams, some have complained of issues that are simply not a problem - yes, you CAN see the recorded videos on your smart phone for instance. Someone said the setup is difficult - no, I don't believe so. Simple to set up, works great and the quality of the picture is excellent. I use one of these cams to screen people on my front porch. The lens is wide-angle enough to cover the porch, the cam focuses closely so you can see faces, you can talk back and forth with a person very easily, and if mounted smartly, it's easy to reach to bring inside to re-charge. Mine has been installed for a week and it's still showing a 99% charge. I am not concerned with battery life. Fully recommended. I have to admit though, I'm tired of getting Wyze pop-ups in my app trying to sell me the cam+ option or whatever else they want you to buy. I wish they would stop that.

WORLDS BIGGEST FAN OF WYZE

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to set up
Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2021

It works well once set up and the setup is easy. The application software is a little annoying in one respect: the camera views on my iPad are always rotated to portrait orientation, which makes the view itself sideways instead of vertical. I assume that it's some configuration issue, but I can't find it: it shouldn't be that obscure to find.

The basic functions (detection, control) are mostly fine. You will need to subscribe to the PLUS service from WYZE in order to have longer recordings made after motion detection, to control the rest period between recordings, and to detect anything other than motion. It's not expensive, but if you're on a tight budget, you should check the current subscription price, too. The battery charge lasts several weeks in our rural location, with only two or three callers a day (UPS and Post Office, mostly).

You'll also need to buy little memory cards for the camera(s) and the base station, if you want the videos quickly available for review and you don't have fast internet speeds. I bought mine directly from WYZE to assure they'd work, other reviewers have said that they've had problems with non-WYZE supplied cards. The cards don't fill up fast (good compression, I guess) and allow you to keep the videos for longer than WYZE will keep them for you.

Detection of motion is not as quick as I'd like, particularly at night. It misses our newspaper delivery which takes about 5 seconds for the carrier to drive into our driveway, drop the paper, then back out. There may be a sensitivity control to adjust in the application; if so, I've clearly missed it. It did detect a bobcat at night that jumped onto and walked along the top of our gate, so it's not clear to me what is going on with detection sensitivity -- see a bobcat, miss a car?

WYZE keeps making improvements to the software for the camera system; we've had about three updates from them since late 2020, when I bought and installed this. As one would hope, the camera system recovers from an electric blackout quite nicely. The cameras seem nicely weather resistant, too; we've had some heavy downpours and wind this winter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice, battery life closer to 2 months, mounting problems
Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2021
Style: 3 Camera KitVerified Purchase
These are nice enough. I have them mounted on the outside of my house and they work fairly well. Two issues, however: the battery doesn't last as long as advertised. Definitely less than 3 months, more like 1.5-2 months. The other is that they really, really don't like to be mounted upside down. The way the mount is designed they have to be upside down if mounted under the eaves of your house. But the two I have are both working upside down and the charging time isn't that big of a deal.

They do lose connection on a regular basis with the little base station. Or they did at the beginning, they seem to have figured themselves out now. The integration with google nest hub sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I can see these while I'm at work, but only on my smartphone. I don't think you can get to them via a web browser.

I think these are a really good bargain and I would definitely recommend them to family members. My nest cams are much better (more dependable) but they are a) way more expensive and b) have to be plugged in to an electrical outlet.

Honestly, what led me to leave this review was after reading a few seriously negative comments, it just "irked me" if you will, considering you can NOT find these types of home cameras with as good quality as the Wyze Cameras FOR THE PRICE OF WYZE CAMERAS!!! Like these are literally the BEST home surveillance cameras, I have many inside and outside, and of course there has been just 1 REAL "issue", but when you look at the price you paid for the cameras, JUST STOP COMPLAINING!! JESUS! IF YOU WANT AND NEED AND REQUIRE ALL OF THESE OTHER HIGH TECH SPECS, OR EXPECTING THE ABSOLUTE MOST, THEN GO PAY FOR IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!! I don't care what ANYBODY says, these cameras are SUPERB considering the PRICE point. So many people want to be "cheap" then B**** when the quality isn't "up to par" or reaching THEIR "expectations"!
Now don't get me wrong, im by no means calling the quality "CHEAP", because FOR THE PRICE, the quality is BETTER than expected and worth more than ALOT of these "reviewers" are giving it credit for.

IT'S COMMON SENSE, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!! EVERYONE KNOWS (OR SHOULD KNOW THAT)!
Don't act like a CHILD and sit there and EVERYTIME you get "pissed" because something isn't going your way or because the cameras or software isn't reaching what YOU "want/need" it to, and come leave a 1-star rating every time. SMH.
JUST GO SPEND MORE MONEY ON A BETTER OR HIGHER QUALITY CAMERA & SOFTWARE, THAT FITS BETTER WITH YOUR NEEDS & EXPECTATIONS!!!

ITS MORE THAN CLEAR THE MAJORITY OF "BAD REVIEWS" ARE SIMPLY PEOPLE WHO NEVER EVEN READ THE DETAILS, FEATURES, DESCRIPTIONS, OR ANYTHING AND JUST EXPECT A $20-$50 CAMERA SYSTEM TO DO THE ABSOLUTE MOST, & WHEN IT DOESN'T; I READ 1 GUYS REVIEW WHERE HE LITERALLY WANTS TO COME CRY AND IS THREATENING TO LEAVE & ACTUALLY LEAVING MULTIPLE 1-STAR REVIEWS EVERY TIME HE GETS PISSED! Pros;
- Price is good.
- Easy Setup.
- Good software.
- Easy to scale the system for large home or commercial use.
- Lots of add-ons to fit your needs.

Cons;
- Why the extra base? Why not direct wifi?
- Sometimes glitchy
- A bit slow, Even with our $450 wifi router and 1 Gbps internet - probably their base.
- Taking down the camera to recharge (why no removable battery?)

Overall, This is a decent DYI solution. The unnecessary wireless base and battery charging are my biggest complaints.

I suspect the base is there to keep the cost down, and Extend battery life by offloading some of the processing and connectivity to a plugged in device.

I have solved the re-charging issue by separately purchasing an aftermarket solar panel for it. Not sure why WYZE doesn't make and sell these. Maybe I'll find out next time it rains real hard.

Also, you have to pay a little each month to have that option. But, it’s not a bad deal. Especially if it’s your second set of cameras catching different areas. Very convenient. Very easy to install. Very classy looking. Have recommended to a lot of people. Amazing picture quality.

We wanted to know when people approached our front door, whether to ring the bell or deliver packages. We've had this set up for about a month and it gives us fairly quick phone notification of either. It's pretty easy to set up, but some of the settings are a bit confusing as to what they do and are a little limited if you don't pay Wyze for the "PLUS" option. For example, I'd like to have a shorter "cool down" period than 5 minutes without paying. Fine, don't store as much in the cloud for free, but give me closer to a 1 minute or so "cool down." The battery life seems great so far. We're at 65% battery after a month, and that includes setting up and adjusting the camera and such. If you want an inexpensive camera with an option for no subscription service, this is the way to go.

Received Outdoor bundle as xmas gift. Overall, I like the outdoor cam. PROs: camera's are battery and not wired, The video for most alerts are good. Easy setup. App has some improvement opportunities also, but that is another review. Price is good.

Couple improvement opportunities:
Battery life - Sucks. I go to work, wife goes to work, children go to school, all return, mail is delivered and it all adds up to 9 alerts and videos taken, at a minimum, per day on front door and driveway. I am lucky if they make it 2 weeks. A bigger battery would be nice.

Charging - I learned the hard way that just plugging it in does not mean that it will charge. You must also have the camera on. Not sure why, tested it a couple times. It will charge when off, but when it gets charged it stops charging and slowly discharges. I was doing a swap and found that even after being plugged in for a week, it only had 85% charge. I have 4 of them and each does it. 3 cameras are up outside and the 4th I use to swap with one that has a low battery. Would be nice if they stayed fully charged whether turned on or off.

Night vision - good enough to identify people but it is blurry if they are moving quickly across the camera. If coming towards or away, or move slowly across, it looks good. If running across, not sure how it will look. When it is not freezing out, I will give it a try to see.

Base Station - Didn't like having it wired to my router. They did an update and now the base station connects wirelessly to my router. Great improvement! This allowed me to move the base station to address the next improvement opportunity.

WiFi for camera - I really wish the camera's would talk to my WiFi and not the base station's. Not sure what the range is supposed to be, but if you have an older house with plaster walls and a brick exterior, it isn't far enough. Even after moving my base station within 35ft, I am at the limit to getting one camera to connect and sometimes it isn't. I am sure this this doesn't help battery life any. Would be nice to have camera's connect to the app via my WiFi or to have an extender for the WYZE network, or have a more powerful base station. Something.

Indexing - The mount doesn't have any so each time I replace a camera, I need to open it on my phone and check position. I took a Sharpie and marked camera and base on one and then as I rotated them I transferred the marks to other cameras and bases. Would be nice if they had some sort of indexing system. Not the best going up and down the ladder a couple times every time I swap a camera.

I got the starter bundle with one additional camera, and the basic subscription service as my first outdoor security camera purchase. Overall I'm very satisfied with the value. The hiccup had to do with the firmware update the first time...the update firmware link in the app wasn't the right way to do it. I called tech support and it turns out that you click on the camera icon in the app...slightly annoying like most tech the first time you use it. I also tried to use the SD card feature on the base station, but the first two SD cards haven't worked, so I'm just relying on the cloud for now.

I'm impressed with the speed on the notifications...not instantaneous but within several seconds, so plenty good enough for my use. The other features like notification settings, and motion detection window have been great, as is the additional user capability for the app. I gave it four stars due to the hiccups above... I can't imagine getting two defective SD cards from different stores/brands but its possible. Overall I think this is a best value when considering the price point. As for camera battery, after a couple weeks of use they're at 94% and 93%

Still works. I was excited to see a wireless outdoor camera and base station. I’ve had it running a couple weeks and this is what I’ve found.

First, there are some bad reviews about it by “so called” experts on YouTube. It’s not true. Everything they claimed was not good about the camera works on mine. One claimed it took 45+ seconds to get notified. I get notified in about 5 seconds. The mailman can open my gate and before he goes 10 steps to my door I’m notified.

It’s a great camera and a great price. I’m waiting on their V3’s to come available otherwise I would buy 2 more of these.

I just received 3 cameras and the base yesterday. One of the first things you have to do is charge the cameras and make sure all the cameras and the base have their firmware updated to the latest revision. I immediately subscribed to the Cam+ (3 cameras, $50 for the year)
It took me half a day to get all the cameras and base firmware updated, many failures "please try again". This could be because my internet stability is not always reliable.
After getting all the firmware updated I still could not get the cameras/software to record motion even though I had properly applied the Cam+ licenses to each camera.
I was getting frustrated because I couldn't get any event videos to record, a few snapshots but no video.
After going back through and reading all the recent negative reviews I was already think about returning the cameras and looking for a better alternative, while also searching the internet for resolutions that others were posting. I also put in a ticket to Wyze on this Saturday morning. I didn't have much hope with customer support because of the reviews I was reading. Much to my surprise I received a trouble shooting email from Wyze in less than 10 minutes. It seamed to be from a live person as the response was directly tailored to my problem. I now have the 3 cameras recording video when motion is detected. For me the solution was to reboot the base by unplugging it for a few seconds. There are different settings you can apply for each individual camera that can be applied base o the location being used so I have the cameras temporarily setup outside so I can tweak the settings, then I will hard mount. for now I give this 4 stars because the difficulty in setting up without customer support. I can't really rate the night vision, motion detection or picture quality until I've had a chance to actually use the system.

So ease of use if great - just keep it in the base stations' range and your golden, but, as mine are up and running I've projected that I'd get about 3-5 weeks of use before I'm going to have to charge it, NOT the 3 months I expected - also when you setup, the default cool down period (no recording after 1st detection) is set to 3 minutes so it's just enough to see the guy walk up (no recording as he cases the place and breaks a window - and then in and out quick) so if your lucky you'll see him leaving - CHANGE IT in the settings ASAP to 1 minute BUT then pay the price in battery life as it'll drop quite a bit as it's recording more.

Bit of advice during setup, spread a sheet under the ladder as you put it up (and put it up high as I feel like someone will just pluck it off its base if it's too easy to reach) to catch the screw you'll drop about 3x trying to get it into the wall OR you'll be doing as I did and going to the hardware store for a replacement :(

As for the software, you'll like it and it's familiar if you have any of their other cams, I personally put the base station on a small UPS so if the power goes out it'll stay up which is a good thing IMHO and should be a cheap accessory for something like this that they sell but whatever :)

I have a CAM PLUS subscription so storing the recoding locally if off for the one cam but for the other a cheap SD card in the base station bring some small piece of mind.

In comparison to other units out there I really like this from a value point of view as the purchase price is quite good for what you get (kinda like a KIA vs an Audi) and the software is NOT buggy and it's updated frequently.

In summation, this would be an excellent cam for a low flow entryway or surveillance area but in more frequently accessed areas keep an eye on the battery life! (just keep in mind that charging the battery isn't hard and in the software it shows it clearly so it's up to you to keep on top of it) but the screw in, up and walk away factor in its utility is AWESOME for a cheap way to get eyes around your property.

4.0 out of 5 stars Glad I Didn't Pay Full Price

I purchased two cameras and a base station with a gift card and some cash rewards so I paid next to nothing for my setup, which is the only reason I'm not returning it. The motion sensor on these is pretty bad. I have my sensor settings set to high, my range at high, and the detection zone expanded to where I want it and it still doesn't start recording until after someone is already walking away. What's the point of having cameras at my entrances if the only recording I get is of the back of their head.

Example: received an Amazon delivery the other day - driver opened back gate, set package down, took a picture of it, then left. My Wyze recording didn't trigger until she was closing the back gate on her way to leave.

Other than the sensor issues, the cameras themselves shoot in good quality. I have had some connectivity issues sporadically, but for the most part the live feature always works. Some of my recording events show up corrupted, not allowing me to view them, but that's rare.

Overall 3 stars, and that's being generous really. I'm glad I didn't pay full price for these. Keeping my fingers crossed that these issues may be resolved through future updates.

Update: Changed review from 3 to 4 stars as it seems like some of the recent firmware updates have helped with the sensor issues I was having. Some clips still record corrupted (meaning I can't view them) which is frustrating.
Battery life has lasted exactly a month before needing to recharge.

I have 6 cam3 and 2 outdoor cam. About 20% of the time they go Offline and won't connect. The Outdoor cam does not do Playback even with an SD cars installed. Cam support says I could do continuous recording but the rechargeable battery will only last a day or 2 before needing a recharge. I did discover if I attached 60 feet away, at the other end of my house over my garage, the wifi signal would not connect because of the interior and exterior walls, But I attached to a tree, about 30 feet further away and the wifi signal connected fine, so since no wires on the outdoor cams I can just attached to a few trees around my home ??

4.0 out of 5 stars Good camera without wire but motion detection needs work

Good outdoor camera with wire. I have several Wyze camera and door bell. For this camera, it requires the base station to work and for files backup. Make sure your Ethernet cable works while setting up. I didn't know that only one plug on the back of my cable modem is active at one time. I was frustrated initially not being able to set it up. Once it's setup, it's very easy to use just like all other Wyze camera. However, I would give just one star for the motion detection. In many instances, it failed to capture motions. I have tried different settings but it still doesn't work all the times. If I don't do much recordings, the battery last a while; otherwise it requires charging frequently. Also, it only works with 32 GB microSD card. I tried 64 GB but both the camera and base station failed to recognize them. You can only backup your videos/photos to the base station if you have the plus account.

The product description states that you get free rolling 14 day cloud storage. The box also states the same. NOT TRUE. After a lengthy online discussion with the help desk, she informed me that they just made a change to the cloud storage for the WYZE Cam Outdoor (Wire-Free) Starter Bundle. If you want to save footage, you must have a SD card in the base station. You don't need one in the cam but if you do, the base station will backup the SD card in the outdoor camera.

Of course, if you really want cloud storage, you must join their CAM Plus feature for 1.99/month (billed annually) for an initial outlay of $23.88.

If they are going to change the terms in the middle of promoting a new product, there should be a disclaimer somewhere that states the Wire-Free camera does NOT come with free cloud storage.

This relates to not being able to log into your account online to view your camera footage like you can with all of their other models. If I had known that, I would have opted for the wired version.

For such a low cost, this is a fantastic value. The night vision is exceptional but overall video quality is not that great. Speaker is awful as well but I don't ever need to use it, I bought it for motion detection which it does well. The delay of motion detection notifications are surprisingly long however. It can take up to a few minutes to hit your phone if you are out of network. In network it takes about 15-20 seconds. No ability to record directly to a SD card, motion detection triggers a clip that is uploaded directly to the cloud. The only way to back up the data yourself is to have a SD card in the base station. That is fine I guess but I wish I could skip the cloud upload altogether.

There is minimal instruction in the box and the user is referred to the app for complete set-up instructions. However, I did not find the app to be very intuitive and had to seek out help on the internet. I have set up many devices from Nest and SimpliSafe but found the WYZE cameras to be more of a challenge. Once set up was done, I am happy with the views and features, especially for the money!

Bought for front door monitoring. I wish I had just got the regular camera in hindsight—because the area I utilize is weather protected and I could run an outside weather rated extension cord and to get continuous playback. This item works as described and has good battery life, after almost 3 months of use it still has more than 35% battery (I use 360p it’s probably less life on higher definitions). THERE IS NO CONSTANT PLAYBACK, there are defined recording windows available but they drain battery, hence why I wish I got the regular wyze camera. Setup is fine, but not as easy as the regular camera only due to connecting the base to your network and then the camera to the base. Detection and video quality are good, mounting options are clearly stated. Have not used the travel mode but understand it to be a worthwhile feature—and that might be where the value in the product truly lies.

I'm unable to "save" a copy of the overly-short 12-second video to my iPad/iPhone (gives me a "save failed, please try again" or "Access denied" message).

Battery life, based upon the current rate of discharge, will surely not provide enough service for me to rely upon it for the six months that I am away from the home/condo each year (and I can find no mention of whether or not the unit will protect the battery by shutting down before total exhaustion).

While they "checked the box" for it having a speaker - I find it unusable even when I'm standing within arm's reach of it.

Alert response, at nearly one minute, is disappointingly slow.

Requiring a wired connection to my router seems logical for speed; however, it took up a much needed port space.

I haven't been able to see a value in having a memory card on the unit (I added a 32Gig); and as soon as my order for an additional one comes for the base station, I'll report back on it's utility.

I bought this unit to monitor the front access to my condo - which it does - but nowhere as useful (aside for location opportunities) than one of my other Wyzecams (5 V2 + 3 Pan at one home; 4 V2 + 3 Pan at another home) -- for the reason that it will not let me play back any amount of video time to sort out the event details.

Limitation of one 12-second event recording every 1/3/5 seconds is unacceptable for any near-serious "security camera" use - as once the event has been recorded, nothing more can be known about the circumstances until the next snippet of recording takes place (per the 1 or 3 or 5-second "cool down" setting).

I have two V3 cams on pre-order - and/but seriously doubt that I will be ordering a second copy of this camera - which will henceforth be relegated to the "fun-to-have but less-than-adequate" toy that it is.

Update: I returned the unit, as I think it's an example of a solution in desperate search of a problem.

I have the regular basic Wyze cam and bought this for the outdoor area. Make sure you understand you will need to position the cam in order to set the detection settings. You won't even know if you can set it up properly within your property until you set it up and use it once. You can't drag the green block to set it like the basic cams. Also, if you have to flip the cam180 when hanging it upside down, the detection block doesn't flip so it's stays on top of the screen. This makes it almost impossible for me to position the cam to catch anything. All of my detections are on a ridiculous delay so when a vehicle drives by it catches it way too long after it passes. The cars are halfway down the street on the recorded vids. I've tried everything people suggested in the forums to "manage" this issue playing around with all of the settings to help...none of it works. Not being able to move the detection block feature is extreme flop for this model. From what I've read within the forums, I am assuming the detection is on a severe delay due to positioning issues, if it's not due to that, then that detection feature itself is really sucky too. I have a large front where positioning shouldn't be a problem at all. Basically a person living at the end of a cul-de-sac would benefit from this so there is only one direction that it has to catch I have it at about 10ft in height and have repositioned it in every area on the outside of my house and it's still delayed. I hope they update this issue which is clearly a software problem since a million other people have this problem too. Right now it's useless to me unless I want to catch a bunch of tail lights. Another issue is that it states it should be withinn6 feet of the base which is plugged into the wifi....that might be an issue for some people and something to think about before buying. The good part is that the battery lasts 5-7 days before I have to recharge. I was worried about that after I read about recharging but def not a problem. It's also super sturdy/heavy duty and the picture quality is great..the only issue is that the nice picture quality doesn't help when I cannot position the cam to catch anything important if I needed to. I am seriously thinking of buying another regular Wyze cam and ordering and outdoor closure for it. I expected more since it was 60.00. I paid 19.99 for the basic cam which works 10x better in my opinion.

I bought the Wyze Outdoor Cam starter kit and three additional cameras because I have had some concerns about the security of my property. I liked the price and they got relatively good reviews. The setup process is pretty straightforward and all the cameras connected to the base station and to the app easily. The first problem occurs when mounting the cameras. The base has a limited range of motion. There is a threaded adapter in the bottom of the camera, so if you wanted to purchase a third-party camera mount you could do that, but you'd lose the functionality of the magnetic base.

The second problem is recording - your options are very limited. It will record a 12 second video to the cloud when it senses motion, with a 5 minute "cool down" period between videos, but I expected that by purchasing and installing a micro SD card I could have continuous recording or at least time lapse recording. However, those options aren't available. On their website Wyze explains that they've done this to increase battery life, but unless you know to look for it, that particular detail isn't in the advertising. I probably wouldn't have bought this camera if I had known that. There is a subscription option, called Cam Plus, which currently (January 2020) costs $15 per camera per year and allows unlimited recording with no cool down period. So the bottom line here is that if you want the cameras to work as security cameras, you're buying into a subscription service. EDIT: There is no browser app for these cameras - you can only access them on your phone or tablet. That would probable have been a deal breaker for me.

The picture quality is decent and the infrared seems to work well. You can adjust the motion sensitivity through the app on your phone or tablet, which is a good feature, because as soon as I mounted the first camera it started sending me alerts every thirty seconds or so, whenever a car drove by on the adjacent street.

Overall, it's not a bad camera, but you need to know what you're buying before you spend the money on it.

First of all, the set is good looking and very nicely packed. Very easy setup.
Mounting - the mount is nice but lucking horizontal rotation. You pretty much have to buy an other mount or play to mount it in angle.
Motion detection - it works with some delay. 12sec may not be enough to see all details. Also, the motion detection is preconfigured horizontally on the camera therefore it's not easy to position it well.

We have been trying to use these cameras to monitor a parking lot outside our small business. There are several features in the app that are locked behind a monthly paywall, which I certainly did not appreciate discovering. Chief among those is the ability to modify the recording duration and the "cooldown" between recordings. There is an option to set the maximum duration of a recording but not the minimum - so even with cooldown feature turned off, the recording ends shortly after the immediate motion stops and doesn't pick up again right away even if something else happens immediately after.

For example, you may see a car pull into a parking spot but never see the person getting out. The recording stops just after the car stops moving. For whatever reason, the brief delay between the car parking and the door opening doesn't register as a new or continued event. I don't know if that's because the camera is busy sending the previous clip to the base or what. If users had the option to set a minimum recording time, they could anticipate the lapse to ensure the entire event is captured. Some of our clips are as short as 5 seconds with nothing following for minutes after. The cameras have also been triggered by a person walking by but the recording ends with them halfway across the frame as if they suddenly stop being registered as a moving object.

These errors have all occurred during clear daylight. The camera is mounted outdoors in plain view, the sensitivity of the motion sensor is set to maximum, the motion sensor's field of view is limited to the area we want to monitor (less than half of the frame), and is out of the sun (to prevent lens flare interfering with the image and heat from interfering with sensors).

Picture quality streams fairly decently in HD and will definitely depend on the proximity of the base and the strength of you wifi signal. Night vision is pretty impressive, although you have to fiddle with the settings to get a color night vision as it isn't particularly stated how to accomplish it.

I suppose these might be good for some applications, but I am losing hope they have what it takes to serve our purposes. We are now considering a wired, 24/7 continuous surveillance system.

Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2021

To be fair, getting a wireless camera and base station for this price is cheap.
But not mentioning it is hobbled in the sales pitch is a bit unethical.
They pretty much seem to be giving you the cam & base at cost and will make money on the after sale "services".
-
Pros:
Video quality is pretty good for the money as long as the camera is not "too far" from the base station.
(It gets choppy if it is too far away)
When viewing live, You can zoom into the video in the app.
(Big plus compared to some cameras)
After set-up, the base station does not have to be connected to your router with a network cable, WiFi works.
Battery holds a charge pretty good if used as they "recommend", 12 second video's. You do not want to mount these where you can't get to them.
The magnetic base provided can also attach on the top of the camera.
Has a camera screw mount on the bottom of the camera for your own tripod or some other screw on type mount.

cons.
Only records 12 seconds on a motion detect unless you buy a subscription. "In-app purchase".
The distance you can have the camera from the base is pretty short(60 ft would be charitable) You can move the base station to be in the middle of the camera and your wireless router to extend that distance though.
No web browser viewing of video, but they are working on it.
The delay from being notified of motion makes it unusable to answer the door remotely.
-
It is worth it? I think so, as a toy to use for watching the wildlife around your house or identifying an after the fact instance.
-
As a real time security device or to answer the door if you are not home... no, sorry.
-
The in-app purchase and the 12 second video limit in the notification felt sort of like a bait and switch since they didn't mention it up front.

update(don't say I didn't see it coming.
The cameras are pretty good, the main issue is they are not living up to the terms they originally sold the equipment for. They are changing the service behind the scenes and the hardware does not store much locally so it really affects what the user gets out of the equipment.
-
They no longer want to honor the free 12 second 14 day rolling cloud storage. They are changing it to "thumbnails" and it appears they are also speeding up the video in the meantime.
-
How secure is a "security" company that uses bait and switch?
What will they change down the road?
If You cannot trust a security provider, should you be giving them money?
-
The truth is the hardware is pretty good for the money, so good they can't make "enough" money just selling the hardware without constant income.
-
They also want to add free "person detection", does this mean the AI detecting motion will sooner or later not collect other movement, like cars & animals?

Wyze cam outdoor (WCO) is a great piece of engineering (given the low-power compromises)!

Positives:
I had no problems w/ connectivity, weather (I had it outdoors, directly rain/snow-exposed, during winter), or battery (when used conservatively); Motion events were easy to access from the Wyze app. An economical way to have real-time visual of hard to see area around the house. Mobility is a nice plus. I bought the WCO to use as a mobile supplement to my wired security system;

Battery drain rate: (a) 2-4mo if set for low(er) power use (only event recording, camera rules, no notification, no continuous, no local storage);
(b) drain is much faster if notification on, periodic-continuous recording, or scheduled recordings;
On the 1st day I had the app open & continuously monitoring - battery dropped to ~50% in a day. I adjusted my settings and battery useage dropped to ~1% per day.

Limitation/negatives:
(a) What you *must* understand is that the cost is more than the initial payment. WCO became (nearly) useless after ~2mo b/c I did not subscribe to the CamPlus program; the Basic Plan is free, but v. limited;
(b) It has MAJOR limitations as a *security* camera (see YouTube, LifeHackster, "Wyze Cam Outdoor-Why I Don't Recommend It");
(c) "Real-time event-notification" sounds great, but the time-delay (from cam, to WiFi, to ISP, to cell system, to mobile app) makes this feature less useful than at first glance (not Wyze's fault); the delivery person will be gone before you can respond;
(d) In some cases fast-moving objects are out-of-the frame before the recording begins;
(e) During daytime the video quality is fairly good; Under night-vision, the distance at which detail is visible is relatively short;

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy setup, good picture, battery life not nearly what’s advertised
Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2020
Style: 1 Camera KitVerified Purchase
Update:
The camera has become nowhere near real time. It updates every 30-40 seconds and sometimes just stops updating for 5-10 minutes. It’s sitting inside in a window sill and is roughly 25’ from the base station which is hard wired to my home network. The camera has become relatively useless at this point. Don’t buy this camera, trust me.

Original review:
I wanted to give this product 5 stars but I just can’t. The main reason, battery life. Setup was a breeze. It took 5 minutes. Picture quality is good (both in SD and HD) though if you have any change in lighting, say a car flashes lights or a timed outdoor light comes on, the camera takes a bit to self adjust.
My one “gripe” would be better battery life. I haven’t found a way it will last 6 mos. as advertised. The camera is inside in a window to test quality & battery life before installing outside. I’m getting 4-6 % drain per day. At that rate, about a months time. I’ve lowered sensitivity and dropped to SD but it’s not enough. It would really need to be 1% per day to get to 3 mos, let alone 6 mos.
I tried leaving the camera plugged in since it was inside. When doing so the camera image would stick or update every 2-3 seconds. I also noticed sometimes the camera became unresponsive. It appears that the camera cannot function properly while it’s plugged in. (Otherwise for me that would be fine as I have places to install inside with a view of my front yard.

Good camera but don’t expect long battery life. Go in with the expectation that every month, maybe 2 you’ll need to take it down to charge it. I recommend you find a wired outdoor camera.

I bought 2 cameras 1 for the front and 1 for the back of my house. Video quality is pretty good. They have what is called a detection zone setting that is supposed to block out a portion of what the camera sees so that it won't detect any motion in that particular area. For example I have a flag hanging thay when the wind blows it keeps setting off the motion detection I blocked it out as the detection settings advised and it still sets of the motion detection. Also the battery will last about 2 weeks and it will usually die when the camera shows anywhere from 65-30% I have the low battery warning on and it doesn't matter it never gets low enough to warn me because the camera dies long before battery is at 0%.. also if you buy these and don't plan on paying for the pro which is only $1.99 a month per camera(good deal) the recording without the pro only allows you to record 12 seconds at a time and it needs a 5 minute cool down period before it records again so I suggest getting the pro. I also suggest just getting the wifi wired cameras because then you don't have to worry about the cameras dying so quickly.. if I was able to id get the wired as well

Wish I had watched the videos prior to purchasing but it had great ratings for picture quality. Easy to set up. Works wireless from base station inside my office. (Two walls between.) I will probably keep because I don't worry about packages stolen but wish to know if there is something going on when I am not here. I set all my Samsung phone settings to allow it to run in background so it is not the phone as suggested by Wyze. It starts recording quickly which is better than another I tried.

These cameras really require a subscription to Wyze Cam + to be of any real use. Sure you can check in on things live or see 12 second clips that are recorded after a 5 minute cool down, but you be of any real use you would have to subscribe to Cam+. I wish I could have continuous recording to an SD card without setting up “scheduled recording”. Or the ability to record more than 12 seconds to an SD card when motion is triggered. That way if something happened I could check my base station SD card for evidence. Now they even want you to pay for the free cloud services? Just let me back everything up to an SD on my base station.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not expecting battery life of 3-6 months

Only have this for a few days, but indications are that the battery will probably last me less than 30 days (most likely 20 days). It's not a high traffic area so I don't know why it loses around 5% of battery each day in the first few days. The day time picture is good, but the night time video is just blah. But because this is in the area with two flood lights and a motion sensor in my house, I automate the lights to turn ON when motion is detected, so it works out ok. I did purchase 2 cameras with the intention of rotating them in this location, since in the other locations of my house, I already have POE, wired cameras. That will prevent holes in coverage when the camera has to be recharged. Overall, it is an acceptable solution for what I'm trying to do. I did find a flood light fixture with a mount for this camera on Amazon; perhaps that'll be the final solution for me. Don't raise your expectations too high when purchasing this camera, after all, the price is decent compared to other products, and Wyze is not a fly-by-night company.

Outdoor (2 cams with base); Not a really bad camera, but it doesn't have the ability to set zones and it's usually picking up plant movement (whereas if I could 'zone' that out, it wouldn't) so I get a lot of false movements notifications. Also night is a but fuzzy if there's conflicting lights. Main issues seem to be I get Error Codes many times when trying to play back the notifications. "Error (code 10) Unknown, Please try again later. If this happens again, please submit a developer log through Wyze Support in Settings"

Well it's codes 1, 4 7 or 10... I can't remember if I've gone through all of the numbers but those are the most common. And yes I submit but where it goes from there who really knows. Sometimes it says failed to fetch the video from cloud.

Had a little difficulty putting the cam in the location I wanted, tight fit and the 'adjustable arm' is a bit testy. Just didn't want the neighborhood kids trying to pull it off. (Prime reason for getting it since they are hell bent on pretending to be from a good "Christian" father by vandalizing stuff)

All in all, not a bad piece of equipment. just a little glitchy which over time I'm sure there's to be 'updates' to fix some of this. NOTE: Will say, I had to return the first one because it refused to charge up. hopefully nobody gets that one.

I've had this setup for a year, and I've been happy with it! Wait, wait, keep reading.

For that year, I had it hardwired into my router, and it worked great. The range from the base station was better than I expected - I've got a camera at least 50 feet away that's been working the whole time - timely motion notifications and everything - through 2 walls and some furniture.

I recently updated my network setup (read: Installed gnarly WiFi) and wanted to move it to a WiFi connection, because that will let me move it out near the cameras and expand the range to cover some spots I can't reach right now.

Two days of trying every troubleshooting trick I can think of, contacting support, etc. - it turns out that the WiFi module is (and therefore likely always has been) bad, and the warranty expired 11 days ago.

Wyze makes decent products with some quality issues and then utterly fails them on the service side - my plan was to install at least two more cameras, and a large part of the reason I renovated my Wifi was to ensure it could support this. Now? I'm going to go buy Nest cams, and you should think about doing the same.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some surprises, not all great
Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2021

I'll start with the drawbacks since that's why I'm here. You only get a small percentage of it's capabilities unless you sign up for a $20/year subscription. For example, you can only record 12 seconds of video at a time with motion capture out of the box. If you plan on using this with a Wyze light bulb i.e. having the bulb turn on when the camera detects motion, don't expect it to work like clockwork. The bulb only turned on half the time it detected motion and the delay is completely random, from 8-30 seconds. Also, the app does not always turn on/off the camera or bulb. The camera has a mind of it's own - it decides when it wants or doesn't want to capture motion automatically. These are some major drawbacks but keep in mind how inexpensive it is and there are the following positives:

The night vision is military grade. The picture is very clear and has a huge depth of field. The camera is easy to install and detach when needing a recharge.

In conclusion, I recommend you spend a little more money on a 5-star brand to ensure that you'll get a more reliable device.

I already have other Wyze products in my house, so these are just additions to my existing collection of cameras and sensors, ... The picture quality, especially night vision, is not as good as the Wyze Cam 3. However, the fact that these are rechargeable fills a needs for my house where it would be really difficult to provide power to a camera (I would have to drill holes through brick wall). I have only used this camera for a couple of days, but judging from the battery level drop, I'm guessing I'll be lucky if the battery lasts a month, not the advertised 2-6 months. But I had a plan to purchase 2 so that I can cycle them when the operating one runs out of battery; it is kinda a waste of resource, but I don't want to have to go without event capture while waiting for the camera to be recharged. There are better battery operated cameras out there for sure, but for the price, and the fact that I have experienced with Wyze products make this an acceptable solution for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Camera is great, Wyze is not

3 stars because it’s not terrible and the potential really is there, it’s just been a disappointment overall. Let me start off by saying Wyze used to be really good to us. We have over a dozen of their products in our house from their lights to the vacuum to their door lock. But it seems lately the company is growing faster than they can keep up with. And you’ll see the same sentiment from so many others online. Their quality is dropping and customer service by all accounts seems to be out the window. Their app has always been a little glitchy here and there but it was bearable. It took me 3 days to set up their home monitoring system and I work as a software developer. I can only imagine the frustration of someone with no experience with technology. We had to ship the first outdoor camera back because the usb connector was wobbly. When we got the replacement everything seemed fine for a few months till they released an update that bricked the hub. No reboots, no resets, absolutely nothing. Camera is completely useless without the hub. After reaching out to wyze support, the promised to send a replacement. A month later, we followed up with them and they said it was “held up in preprocessing” and that they will ship another. We’ve been waiting for weeks now with absolutely no follow up from them. It almost seems hard to believe this is happening. I’m terrified of updating any of the other products we have for this reason. This was a critical part of our home monitoring system and we’ve had to get other cameras because we couldn’t rely on this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great camera but the new motion sensor is a fail.
Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2020
Style: 1 Camera KitVerified Purchase
So let me start by saying I have loved wyze products. I have a wyze scale, two cameras at my parents farm and previous to this camera, I've had the original camera just mounted in the window of my apartment.

I got this camera to; 1) finally have a wireless camera. 2) get a better view of our front porch and out to the parking lot.

Honestly this camera is a bit disappointing. Not that it doesn't work, but it is showing a few flaws mostly related to the different motion sensor.
The good:
Good image quality in the day, however low light video gets blurry especially in night vision. (I feel like this might be a software issue, I've seen my cameras do better before and its only changed with software updates)
It is wireless, which is great.

The bad;
1) even with range set to far and sensitivity on high, it won't trigger the motion recording until someone is within 10ft or less.. (see first picture is of me entering, within 5ft, while I have a view of the entire sidewalk.)
My original wyze cameras are so much more sensitive to movement, almost too sensitive sometimes.

2) this camera, unlike the original wyze cameras do not use 'detection zone'. I understand it uses a different technology/technique. But as I noted in 1 its just not as good as the original cameras and I would have preferred the detection zone. And Instead you must move the camera itself to adjust the detection zone..

3) I had placed the mount upside down in hopes i could just flip the image 180, like my other cameras and no big deal.. Wrong. While the camera does have a magnet on top to mound it right side either way and you can rotate the image 180, it doesn't change the detection area. So the detection would be at the top of the view rather than the bottom, where the primary movement zone would be..

4) micro SD storage. There is no reason in the world these products should not support exfat formats to support greater than 32gb of micro SD storage. With micro SD storage becoming capable of nearly 1tb of storage, I should not have to beg a security camera to use 128gb SD card. This is really killing my experience because my Samsung 128g was 20 bucks.. And these cameras won't read them nor format to them and I can't reformat them to fat32 either... Its really a piss off to not have this ability.

5) The files that are recorded to the SD card are only thumbnails! Wtf. No video clips!

Ultimately, it seems the new detection sensor is the main fail here. Seconded by the inability to use larger SD cards and the fact the SD card only saves thumbnails of the recorded events.

Update; dropping 1 star.. Maybe more if this issue persist. I was trying to connect to the live feed while my gf and son were outside playing so I could trying to talk to them. If it connected at all, the image melted into fuzz. I'm really becoming pissed at this camera.

Update 2: dropping another star. The SD card only saves thumbnails(pictures of the event) and not any video clips.

I have one of their indoor cameras and like it quite a bit but don't be fooled thinking this is a version of the indoor camera for outdoors. It isn't.

The motion detection is sub-par with no user defined zones and no people detection. Even when you set the camera to use the defined zone (which is about 1/2 to 2/3's from bottom where it is supposed to be active) I still activates and detects things at the top of the zone about 200 yards away esp at night when there are headlights.

The notifications will drive you nuts if you try to use it. I bought 4 of them and while they are doing the trick they are nowhere near the capabilities of Logitech Circle View I have. Frankly I didn't expect it to be and don't need HOME integration as these are far less money but the active zone/notification issue is a deal breaker I'm betting for most. Looking at the forums on Wyze they use a hard wired detection system so you can't customize the zone like you can with the indoor camera. The indoor camera uses some AI/pixel detection to determine what is in the frame and where it is. Bottom line is that it isn't something they can "fix" in a software update I assume.

Go in with eyes wide open and decide if worth the money for you but don't think the notification system is going to be all that useful.

I bought my Wyze Outdoor Camera starter kit directly from Wyze because it wasn't available on Amazon yet. Long story short, you're paying for a beta quality product that should never have gone into production yet. Going through the Wyze forums, one can see technical support is completely overwhelmed by all the e-mails from customers looking for help and the a four-day delay before getting a response is considered excellent. Some are saying it's been over a month and they're still waiting.

Bottom line: if you want to take it hiking or something like that, it will probably work fine. If you want it for securing your house, wait until at least version two otherwise you'll be disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars These are Wyze Cameras (not Crazy-e Cameras)
Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2020
Style: Add-On CameraVerified Purchase
By that I mean, it is the right tool for the job if your main intention is to know things like when packages arrive, when the post is dropped into your mailbox, whether salesmen are the ones knocking at the door again, or if you have blind-spots around your house that you, otherwise, just can't see and are worthy of some level of visibility.
.
That said, and as many have advised, if you live in an area where crime is rampant, there's more fear than security in your life, and only the highest quality equipment will do, then this particular Wyze model camera is probably not going to be the right tool. For a unit that runs just under $50, the value for the dollar spent is rather good. For some observations on why, for (1) the video quality (at 1920 X 1080) is fairly good. If the unit is mounted within a covered area (e.g. porch with overhang) that darker area may not contrast well with any brighter environmental light ; however, this does not prevent the unit for doing a good job monitoring the target area. (2) the unit has a weather resistance rating of IP65 so it doesn't necessarily require mounting within an enclosure. IP65 means it has the highest protection against solids (ingress of dust, dirt, etc.) and for water intrusion, can withstand low-pressure water jets, dripping like rain, and other light spray. (3) The sound quality on the unit, while a dual edge sword, is exceptional and, at the same time poor; by that, I mean, if listening on the app to any sounds within the monitored area, the sensitivity of the camera's mic is pretty good. For example, one of our cameras is mounted in a covered area. That space essentially serves as a tunnel for sounds from multiple directions so that even relatively relaxed conversation sounds as clear as if I was hearing it with my own ear (i.e. a whisper will still sound like a whisper, but the camera can pick it up). On the other hand (4) I expect that because of the, necessarily, small size of the outbound speaker on each unit, the quality when attempting to speak through it from the app is a non-starter (so, if you want to speak to the person ringing your front door, this unit won't accomplish that very well). (5) Mounting is incredibly simple. So far, I've put up 5 units, and the total time investment may have been just 30 minutes. I mounted outdoors into brick/mortar but drilling takes no time and since the unit is held in place using a strong magnet, installation is a DIYer task that even a baby could do. (6) That said, easy removal of the unit could take even less time, so again, folks living in areas where crime is a big issue should be warned. In those cases, the unit can mounted as high up as one would like. I'd expect, for such inexpensive units mounted at 10', it would not be worth someone else's time to attempt larceny. Even if stolen, the cameras are designed to only operate under the Wyze account that they are listed under (so as long as a stolen camera remains listed in your account, it is just a brick to anyone else). (7) Camera pairing and rule programming is also simple and can be done in a few minutes. Likewise, cameras just bought will likely be pushed a firmware update request which takes a little bit longer than camera pairing, but not much longer.
.
So what flaws have I found ? Primarily, it's not with the camera itself, but with the app that I think the most improvement is needed. (1) There can be some lag on the order of seconds to minutes before an event notification is provided by the app. I have also noticed a few instances where no notification was received. That doesn't prevent the near 'real-time' viewing to be affected, but anyone heavily reliant on notifications will want to be aware of the possibility of some not being received. (2) There is some latency between the 'real-time' capture, and when the app displays that capture (typically on the order of seconds), however, my more expensive 'Nest' cams behave similarly. Although I can't know the actual network path that these video packets take, I'd expect that a path through a Wi-Fi network, LAN, to the Cloud (recording) etc. has some overhead to it, so a few seconds is o.k. (3) While the advertised battery life is on the order of months, for cameras that are mounted in very high activity areas, this is likely to be more on the order of weeks or days. Someone can expect units targeting the back and sides of a house to run on a full charge for quite some time, but for units facing roadways, walkways, and the like, continuous monitoring will probably lower battery life. Still, recharging a unit only takes a maximum of 4 hours. In my case, I have set some of the camera rules so that they're active only during the most 'vulnerable' hours of the night, and put an overlapping camera in place (so that when one is off, the other is on, etc.); This goes a long way toward not having to care about charging them as often. (5) It could be my old phone, or it could be the App, but whichever it is, flipping the App view to 'Rotate' the live stream sometimes causes the App to back out, then I have to go back into it. Again, if it is the Wyze App, I would recommend that it needs some improvement in that area.
-
With all that said, I'd say these cameras are a pretty good value for the dollar (and especially for anyone that wants to monitor all of their surroundings quickly and economically). These cameras are definitely not for P.I. Joe, but they're fine if you're just a John Doe. Wyze has a bit of work to do in making the App a bit more resilient, and some effort would need to go into making the detection technology a little bit more A.I. savvy (but, compared to the Nest cams that I've had for some time, the Wyze detection control is many times better, I think due to the PIR); and while the detection works most all of the time, there can be moments (though rare) where a plant, blowing in the wind, sets off the alarm bell. The user will have some control over this, by setting up the detection settings appropriately (not too sensitive, but just right) as well as configuring the 'effective' zone (easy-enough-to-do) right after mounting the unit. Wyze's AI, and PIR sensors can do the rest. I did want to commend Wyze on including the easy-touch options when looking at the real-time feed so that it's easy to photo, record, listen to, or speak (notwithstanding the sound quality) to someone quickly. I've used the 'record' function a few times when we got some late, unexpected knocks at the door. The App makes it simple to download clips and keep them forever in your phone's Gallery (Note that clips on the Cloud are only there for 14-days; still that storage time is free so I can't complain, and you can't download the 12-second clip any time up until the Cloud deletes it). By the way, the 12-second (free) clip is not a big deal to me, but for those that one a longer stream, it's available either through the use of a local SD card, or by subscription to Wyze for the Cloud to retain the longer capture. Users will also want to be aware that after a capture, a customizable 1, 3, or 5 minute cool-down pause will prevent further recording of any capture until that time elapses (and the longer the cool-down, the better it is for battery life, if that particular unit is monitoring a high activity area).
.
I hope Wyze keeps good things coming. Cheers.

I have a number of Wyze cams (including a v3 which is -impeccable-). These though I was very disappointed with. I will revisit my review and raise my rating if and when a firmware update addresses some of these issues.

Pros:

1.) They're made for outside and they run off a battery freeing you from having to be near an electrical socket.

2.) You can connect to it for a live view and that has worked well for me, I've had no connection problems with it yet.

3.) The image quality is good enough.

Cons:

1.) It has an SD card slot on the camera, and one on the base station but you can't view the videos on it from the app. They say that takes too much battery (which doesn't make sense because for $1.99 a month they'll send the video through the base station and to the cloud where you can view them). Since the base station isn't on a battery there's no reason you shouldn't be able to view the videos on it since the video is already being transferred there.

2.) It's ability to see movement is far below every other model. It misses a lot.

3.) I understand consistent recording would drain the battery but we should be able to choose even to the batteries detriment. If I had to charge it once a week but it actually recorded movement for a more meaningful time than 12 seconds (with a cooldown after) I'd be totally happy. Right now, it takes 12 seconds, sends that to the cloud and then has a cool down. If you're expecting to catch an entire video of someone stealing a package what you'll probably end up with is someone walking up and then video will cut short and due to the cool down you won't get anything else. To me this makes it completely useless as a security camera.

I purchased this in January 2021 and the base station stopped working in March 2021. INFINITE BLINKING BLUE LIGHT. The base station would not connect to my network, nor did my phone pick up the base station's wi-fi network id. I contacted support and they had me download an app from a 3rd party ("Route This") to scan my network to see if the problem was on my end. The app does not tell you what exactly was scanned, the information they retain from the scan, or the output. After they determined that my network wasn't the problem (duh?!?), Wyze offered to send me a replacement. But do I really want to replace something that went bad in 2 months? And no this is not a fluke. Do a quick google search to see how many others suffered similar issues with their base station. When it comes to your home security, you are probably better off, spending a little more money on a product from a more reputable company that provides better troubleshooting support than just having you download an app to your phone to perform an invasive scan. If I wasn’t outside my return window, I would just return it to Amazon.

2.0 out of 5 stars Connection too unreliable for home security, Wyze indoor cams much better
Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2021
Style: Add-On CameraVerified Purchase
This camera is a mixed bag and, ultimately, it's not reliable enough for me to use as a home security camera.

I'll cut to the chase. I bought the starter kit from Wyze as a pre-order. I started testing it out on a tripod in my yard. It seemed to work okay. I started to consider using these for the entire perimeter of my home. Thankfully, I just bought ONE more to do further testing. I am so glad I didn't go all out and buy 5-6 of these, screw mounts into my house, stick them up, only to later discover all the problems.

CONS:
** Unreliable - After the first week (second charge), unreliable connection forcing me to have to turn the camera on and off to get the connection back; this is in both cameras at different times
** Inconsistent connection - it might work for a while, stop working, then start again later or the next day
** Can be slow to connect in the app (5-45 seconds), even within 20 feet of base. My indoor cam which is 5 feet from one of these outdoor ones right now takes less than 5 seconds to connect.
** Nothing like the reliable indoor Wyze cams

PROS
** Decent picture quality (when it's connected)
** Battery life is impressive if you don't have tons of motion events (I got 9 days on one camera in a quiet spot!)
** Motion capture works (has typical delay)
** Small size
** Feature-rich app
** The one I mounted high was still within reach so I could turn it on and off to get it to work (see cons)

The indoor Wyze cams are impressive. I have a couple and they work great. This outdoor cam is not nearly as good a product. It doesn't matter that they are $50 if I can't depend on them to work any time I need them. I didn't even get to testing them through multiple walls so maybe walls magnify the signal and they work better (that's a joke).

I can see some use cases for these but know what you are getting. Other wireless cams probably have issues too. At least these are cheap. Needless to say, these won't become my exterior home security cameras.

I still think Wyze makes good products, especially their indoor cams, but this outdoor cam has limitations that were too much for me to depend on it for home security.

NOTE: There is going to be some variation in every home in terms of wireless signals so I would take this review into account with others. These use a base station, the indoor ones don't. My suggestion is to try just the starter kit before you invest in multiple cameras.

I've had this for a month now. All in all, I felt ripped off.

Aside from the fact that one gets an indoor mounting base for an outdoor camera. Literally - they send you a mount that needs wall anchors to secure only one of the two screws to a wall. Dumb!!! real dumb!!!

Aside from the fact that they conceal the fact that it's going to actually cost you an additional $15/year for the extra features that should be built into the camera without telling you of these hidden costs up front.

Aside from the fact that you forced to purchase a third party mount in order to mount anywhere outside. The include mount is just two flimsy to be secure. Tiny single screw with no through hole option.

Aside from the privacy issues that their cloud service invokes because you can't opt out of their improvement program because they keep nagging you to upload their photo.

Aside from the fact that you can't view the photos online from a web browser but their cloud service still costs $15 per camera.

What's not to like?

I bought this because it was the cheapest camera online. But that was false advertising because once you add in the $15/year subscription and the additional $8-$20 for a proper mount and this camera is far from the cheapest camera in it's class.

Plus, their app on both my iPhone and Droid just performs like crap. My gripe is that if you're going to force your customers to pay for a $15/yr plan then you better deliver an online service, these guys do not. Their online service is contracted with a third party that gives their camera addition abilities and allows the camera to distinguish between people, cars and pets. These are gimmicks I'll never use, I just want to see what's in my drive way when I'm at work without having to wait 2 minutes for the app to download a photo over 4G.

This whole product line needs a lot of work and it could mostly be done in software. I want to see the latest frame from all of the cameras. I want them to reliably notify me if they detect motion. They don't. People come and go and the motion sensors don't detect them. The hardware is fine. Really, it's the software that is terrible. They keep updating it, so I'm hoping at some point, it actually works.

It's not a complete waste of money, but it doesn't work well enough to be worth buying. I'd rather spend more and get something that just works.

The constant trying to upsell hosting and the fact I can't use RTSP reliably, even with the manual firmware update, means it's really a nonstarter.

This was the best solution I could find at the time for when if the crazies start coming and it's kind of okay for that, but I wouldn't go this route again if I had to do it over, but I couldn't find anything that really worked at any price and gave me wifi and rtsp and etc.

I'm open to recommendations though.

I bought 3 of these and was SO excited. After having them for 3 months I’m so disappointed and will be replacing with the wired outdoor ones. These batteries don’t last long at all if they are anywhere of importance, which they would most likely be if you have them setup for security. My front porch one needs to be charged every 3 weeks and 90% of the notifications it sends me are cars going by. And the few times I did want to check for a person it didn’t even catch it. It also doesn’t have playback for “battery life” which makes sense because battery isn’t great but defeats the purpose when it doesn’t catch so much of the motion. The only reason I didn’t give it a 1 star is because I love the Wyze brand and have so much of their stuff. I however am so disappointed.

Boy did I want to keep these cameras. The picture was beautiful and the app is OK. However, there is no real useful manual, only single sheet instructions. The website has a little more but not enough. It would not easily connect with the camera software I have, and because of the protocol it uses, the image would not be very good. It disconnected even when base was next to router and did not reconnect. Too many issues not easily solved and I am computer literate. This would probably be a great camera in a small, indoor setting with the base directly connected to the router. I have a MESH system in a large house and there were places where the base would not connect even though there was a strong WiFi signal.

I've had four of these cameras for about 2 weeks now. When I first set them up they seemed to work just fine. Now I may get a notification of movement or I may not. And for some reason it is not recording and sending the motion recordings to my events log. I've submitted a couple tickets and havn't heard back from customer support.
I researched a lot of cameras before purchasing these and I'm not sure why they get such good reviews. I have a large property and they only detect motion out about 25ft. The night vision is good but the closer you get to the camera, the more the IR lights "white out" the image where you can't see facial features very well. You also have to mount the cameras pretty low to make sure the motion picks up in the PIR area. I've walked through a camera field of view, gone inside my house, taken my shoes off, sat down on the couch and then got the notification from where the camera picked me up.
So far I'm not happy with these, and if I can't figure out the problems soon, I'll be returning them and going with the Blink cameras.

Having to connect the base station by cable to my router defeats the purpose of having an outdoor cam. I want a cam in a tree near the street. I have a huge router that has signal all the way out there. I purposely paid a lot of money for such a feature. According to what i read, the Wyze base station must be within 60 feet of the camera. Not going to happen. Why would you need to lmconnect a base station via wire to your router?? Also, the tiny mounting holes will not accommodate a screw big enough to support the cam and keep it from being removed easily. Then there is the issue with the sd card slot being located on the base station. Why? If I need to connect 6 cams, I need 6 sd cards. I have 20 of Wyze v2 cams. Each has its own card. So, is Wyze suggesting that for every outdoor cam I install, I would need a base station to go with it?

1.0 out of 5 stars Engineered flaws and obsolence make this good idea into a bad reality.
Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2020
Style: 1 Camera KitVerified Purchase
Even at this price point, this thing is garbage. Here's why:

1. Engineered flaw- Hard coded into this device is its fatal flaw: The "cool down period." If the camera detects motion and begins recording, it will stop recording after 12 seconds, and then wait for between 1 and 5 minutes (your choice) before it records anything else. This "cool down period" is not necessitated by the technology; rather, its just a way for the company to force you to pay for their cloud storage feature. If you do that, the cool down period magically goes away. What about local storage? Yes, the device does have local storage, but that is subject to the cool down period as well.

2. Engineered obsolence- The other fatal flaw with this device is the non-removable battery. When the battery gets low, you can't just pop out the battery and charge it. Instead, you must remove the entire device from wherever it is mounted, bring it inside, charge it, and then return it to its mounted location. Once that battery loses its ability to hold a charge, the entire camera is junk.

3. Advertised two-way audio doesn't work. The audio is so distorted that the person at the camera could not understand a word that I was saying.

This is going back to Amazon.

I have two dozen Wyze cams in use. I have sensors and a Wyze scale. I am really familiar with their products. I have not had a significant issue in 2 years.

The new outdoor cam however, leaves much to be desired. There is no SD card slot on the cam, it's on the required base station. Literature states you can connect up to 4 cams to one base station. That would mean 4 cams recording to one SD card. They really want you to I'd love something to help with stretching or massaging. Like a yoga mat or a self massager or if you have an idea of something a storage subscription. The plans are not expensive, but it galls me to think that they set this up this way by purpose. The base station cannot be located more that 60 feet away from the cam. So much for putting them in the barn. Mounting options are limited with the supplied hardware, but the tiny screws need to fit the tiny mounting holes in the plastic base are a joke. If a bird hits the cam it will likely fall from the mount. It may fall even f you modify the base using larger screws because the cam is held to the mount by a magnet. This is not secure fir an outdoor security cam. Theft is too easy. Think you know whole stole it? Think again. Recording, storage, mounting, connectivity, are all issues to stick with the standard Wyze cams which are awesome. I put 4 of the indoor v2 cams on my patio, inside Wyze outdoor housings, dug a small trench, installed plastic pipe, ran power to a weatherproof junction box containing a USB hub. Cams are wire to the hum, some with extra long USB cables, and the system works perfectly. The expense was small, requires a little tie, but anyone can do it. The latest addition is an infrared floodlight aimed at the areas of cam coverage so I can see beyond the range of the cameras' ir range.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Reason to Purchase—Not like the V2 Cam; No Motion Capture
Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2020
Style: 1 Camera KitVerified Purchase
I was so excited to get this camera because I love all of my many v2 Wyze cams that work so well. But the Wyze Outdoor Cam IS NOT like those. I think many people were hoping for an outdoor version of the v2–this is NOT it. This camera has a substantial, quality feel; it displays a decent image; and it mounts easily. But it is not otherwise a security camera.

•It doesn’t motion capture—even if you have the sensitivity at 100)
•Even if you walk or run a few feet in front of the camera, it doesn’t motion capture
•It captures zero videos/no notifications in night vision mode
•In day mode, it might give 1-2 motion captures per day, or not
•Is sensitive about its SD card
•It’s slow—the live feed doesn’t come up quickly
•At night, the live view is easily washed out by anything too close to the field of view (house eave, an open window nearby, porch rail) and will glow white so that nothing else is visible; this happens even if you just have a large, leafy tree a couple of hundred feet in front of the camera—the tree almost glows and then the camera can’t see much of anything else. Not balanced.

I really wanted to love this and be able to use it. I still hope I can. But it looks more and more like I’ll have to return it because it just doesn’t do its job. I really needed a security camera, and this is more like an interesting toy.

(I did buy some real security cameras from a different company.)

Buy this camera if you are okay with sitting in front of your Wyze app screen like a security guard. If not, do not buy because it won’t help you with much.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very limited functionality and poor design. Don't waste your money. Not like the indoor model.
Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2020
Style: 1 Camera KitVerified Purchase
Pros:
- Decent quality picture
- Partially wireless. (Base station must be cable connected to a router)
- Night vision. For a 12 second clip only
Cons:
- Base station. You have to have a base station for this to work, The base station must directly connect to a router. The base station transmits its own wireless signal from right next to your router. My signal strength from my router is much greater than the little base station. The indoor monitors connect directly to wifi and do not need a base station. Why not the outdoor? I get a better range from the indoor cameras because of this.
- There is a very limited window of time for the actual recording of videos. You get a 12-second video clip and then the camera has to "cool down" for 5 minutes. The indoor camera allows you to add an SD card to get continuous recording of motion events and then stop recording when the event ends. You CAN NOT do this with the outdoor model. The claim from WYZE is battery would run down quicker. The only uses for the SD card are if you want to schedule a time period where the camera records continuously or do time-lapse. Seems like those would drain the battery just as much.
- They still do not have a web interface to view your videos on a laptop/desktop monitor. You have to use your phone or tablet. This gives you a small picture to see your recordings. The workaround is to load an Android emulator to your PC. But I doubt most people would do that.
Needless to say, I am very disappointed in this product and Wyze for the promotional materials they sent me pre-release. They made it appear as if this was a wireless/outdoor version of the indoor camera and all its features.
I was considering ordering several of these if they worked satisfactorily as well as several of their other products (watch and scale).
I may be done with the Wyze ecosystem.
If they come up with a product that does not need a base station and allows detected motion to be recorded to the SD card, I will be back.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sadly disappointing (update)
Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2021
Style: Add-On CameraVerified Purchase
Let me start by saying I'm a Wyze fan and user. I have their Wyze Cam Pan cameras inside the house and I've been really happy with their motion detection, picture quality, etc. So this review comes from someone hoping the Outdoor Cams would be just as good.

There are a few issues with outdoor cams which I'll list and hopefully help you understand where they fail.

1. Field of view (night)
Unless the camera is facing 180 degrees away from the wall where it's mounted, it's useless at night. Let me explain: As with most security cameras, these have a wide-angle lens. The problem is that if you are trying to capture activity along the side of your house for example, it will light-up the wall within the camera field of view and the dimmer areas become pitch-black. The result? You cannot see anything except your wall. See pic #1

2. Field of view (day) and motion detection
I am uncertain where the software logic places the most bias for motion detection to be picked up, recorded and then send you notification, but unless you are literally in the center of the picture waving your hands like crazy, it will not detect you. I have driven my car within the cameras range, walked in front of it, opened doors in front of it, and unless I happen to be in the correct place, nothing happens. What's really weird is if I click on the camera within the app I can view myself standing in front of the camera. Yet, no recording starts and no notification is sent. See pic #2 which is a person walking away from the camera after waving at it madly for about 60 seconds – it picked up none of that waving and started recording after the 'action' (which was a bonus, since it often does not turn on at all).

3. Camera mount
The mounts themselves are ok, albeit the screws are too short if you're mounting on vinyl cladding. The real problem is that due to mounting the cameras above a burglar's reach, you need to aim the camera downwards to capture the view you want. This can be done with the mount, but it skews the picture rather than keeping it horizontal. Looking at picture #2 again, the reason that looks horizontal, is because the mount was fixed on the wall per pic #3.
Because it's now at an angle, I feel I had to cable-tie it to make certain the camera will not be blown off by wind or knocked off by a burglar, especially after the magnetic base starts to lose some of its effectiveness. So, the mount's dexterity is not very good, the joints should have the ability to be manually tightened, and the mounting base should have as standard a bolt that can screw into the base of the camera which already has a pre-existing threaded opening.

In short, the picture quality of the cameras is very good, but the utility of the camera does not extend to being a security camera. If you want a camera to look at your yard and admire it, or to mount on a tree and watch a bird's nest or watch your dog dig holes while you’re at work - these are great. But as a security product - they fail.

All this and I still don't know what may happen when it rains, snows or the cameras are exposed to the New England heat and humidity. How good are the batteries?

Lastly, Wyze customer service is polite but they find it hard to see what a consumer sees. A consumer more-often-than-not wants to buy a product, and in this case, mount it and start using it. It needs to be easy.

If you contact Wyze customer service about an issue, they start making you WORK in order to get the result you want (for example): Have you upgraded to the latest firmware? Have you power cycled your battery? Have you checked A, B and C? etc. In a society where you plug and forget, they need to get a handle on making sure the consumer is satisfied from the time they open the box.

These will be returned, since another issue is that they won't charge to 100%. The best I can get is 98% charge.

Note: Just to be clear because I assume Wyze may see this review and question my ability to WORK at getting the desired result from the cameras...

Yes - I have the latest firmware
Yes - I power cycled the battery
Yes - I tested the range of the wifi/signal
Yes - I fully charged the battery
Yes - I removed the protective film from the lens
Yes - I have reached out to customer service
Yes - I have kept the cameras on day and night for multiple days and nothing has improved

04/04/21
A quick update on the remaining Outdoor cameras which I could not return as I'd bought them directly from Wyze and, as mentioned, Wyze is not eager to allow returns so I'm stuck with them.
I hope the fact any would-be thief sees the cameras will make him/her turn away. I say that because that's their one and only use. They actively monitor nothing, do not send notifications, and the batteries are draining at about 1% everyday, even though the cameras are off while I'm home - which is every day due to COVID, except for an hour or 2 while running errands.
So at this rate of minimal use, the battery life will be about 3 months. This is lower than what Wyze claims, since I'm not taking 10 to 20 videos per day (not even close).
Aside from the hope of deterrence, these cameras are useless.

I have 3 indoor wyze cams. I like them a lot. Very useful and reliable most of the time. This outdoor cam is nothing near that. It is a cheap cheap outdoor cam with the oddest charging notification ive ever seen in an outdoor cam. Most outdoor cams are out of reach and are mounted to STAY there....this one you have to take down and recharge from the mount! What kind of design is that??????? To bypass that I just left the charger in and ran the wire down the house and to an outlet...problem solved right? No... now there is a notifications that tells me to unplug the charger because it's at 100%....there is literally no way to disable this notification. At all. Wyze looks like amateurs in security cams with this design. Very odd and well, dumb. Plus if we want to turn it off then we turn off ALL the notifications completely! Whats the point of having it then if you don't get the notifications you want and bought the cam in the first place for?! When you have the actual overall picture from the cam....it is so zoomed in and not at all wide lens. Other more reputable security cams that ppl are familiar with have this to where you can see ALOT more of the scenery from the cam than what wyze puts out. Pretty much where you aim the cam is all you see. I am dumping this cam without the refund bc its not worth the refund to be honest. I've had it for a week and it's been in the elements of the weather so I doubt they'll take it back anyways. For those who say why the negative reviews....get a reputable security cam and you'll see the difference. Wyze is a 3 out of 10 in outdoor cams. Poor design and concept. Very poor.

Please keep reading to the end. I am adding to my original review.

This review is for the outdoor wireless camera. I have 4 and a base station. I have been running them for a month without any issues. I just wish the picture quality would be a little better, but it's still pretty good.

The battery life is excellent and the software works like a charm. I have not missed on any notifications. It's brilliant.

I just purchased another base station and 4 more cameras. I am replacing all of my v2 with these. No more cables.

Also setting up a family member with some this week. Can't recommend these enough.

**UPDATE**
6 cameras, 2 base stations and 4 months later I am moving fully away from wyze. I hate to say it because I loved their ideas but it really comes down to “you get what you pay for”. The main issues with these cameras is that even if you pay for camplus the software is just bad. It’s supposed to keep recording but instead it stops recording whenever it feels like it. For instance I needed a video of a delivery. The camera recorded the car of the delivery person and as soon as they opened the door to come out the video stopped recording. Thus omitting the person and the delivery. This would happen over and over. Super super annoying. A ton of bugs and issues with the software you don’t immediately notice.

Also one of the cameras completely died. Like completely. Wouldn’t reset or turn on. Took so much time to convince wyze to send me a new one. Getting to their support is a pain in the ass and they can’t give a f*ck about it.

I also had their wyze vacuum and doorbell. All has been returned/sold. Never want to hear about this company again. Many issues that they don’t fix they just want to keep adding half baked products.

I am investing a lot more now but there are so much better brands. I don’t want to influence you as to which brand to go for but definitely look around.

Had a death in the family and was gonna be away from home for 30 days or more. Bought the 4 cam outdoor system, installed it and tested it for the 2 weeks prior to leaving. Left town on June 12th and on June 14th, Wyze rolled out a Base Station firmware update that failed and broke my base station and knocked it offline. Therefore my 4 outdoor cams are offline. I’m a tech guy, my home internet signal is strong and stable and my Alexa devices, sprinkler system and other web devices are connected and working fine. Rebooted my Comcast Gateway twice and the Wyze Outdoor system is still offline. I have 4 Wyze “indoor” cams that are working fine and online. To make matters worse, I installed a Wyze Thermostat on my upstairs AC unit 2 days before leaving town and now that thermostat is offline. What’s the deal Wyze???? Wanted to love you but I’m disappointed and angry with you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing cameras for security.

I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing but because it is WYZE and I am so pleased with my WYZE indoor cameras I didn’t read the reviews. These cameras do not allow immediate playback, not even from the base station with SD cards installed in both the base unit and the camera. The cameras are not picking up all motion events even when sensitivity is maxed out. By the time the even cool down period expires you have missed a lot possibly even a theft. The night vision on mine are awful, I can’t see my car 10 feet below it only a silhouette. Had to run an Ethernet cable from my downstairs router and move the base unit upstairs just to get the camera on the opposite side of the house to stay connected. I bought the two camera starter bundle that comes with two base units which makes one base unit useless because you can run four cameras off one base unit. It only comes with 2 cameras so what’s the point of an additional base unit. These outdoor cameras are dumb. I’m really disappointed in WYZE. IF I CAN RETRIEVE THE BOXES OUT OF YESTERDAY’s trash I’m sending them back arms probably try Blink. A little more expensive but appears to have all the missing functionality of the WYZE outdoor cams. The only benefit I see to the WYZE outdoor cams is if your monitoring a plant or something for time elapse recording and even then you have to remove the ads card and put in a computer to view it. It’s not designed as a security camera in the minds of what people would consider a security cam. The indoor cams are. Love those.

1.0 out of 5 stars The company's services and customer service are a joke

I tried to order 2 V3 cameras, an outdoor starter kit, and 3 additional outdoor cameras from Wyze, but they could not fulfill the order. So I bought them from Amazon and Amazon was great -- delivered the whole thing quickly and reliably like they always do.

I was stupid to think that a company that could not directly sell me their product could actually help out. But, no, now that I'm trying to subscribe to their CAMPlus service, I'm running into the same problem. Just to clear up what this problem is (it's the same issue I had with the ordering from them) the problem manifests like this:
1. I put in the order.
2. The order goes through and apparently works.
3. My credit card is charged and I receive a confirmation email.
4. The order is canceled and I receive a refund.

I contacted Wyze by email and through their Facebook messenger support group. They are unable to fix this.

The first time I contacted them, they blamed my bank. My bank told me that, no, there was no problem with the charge and, in fact, my account shows a debit and then a credit.

The second time they said they had some fraud detection problems, and I should submit the order again. I tried, it failed, I contacted them again.

The third time, they said "no, really, this time we fixed it, try again" so I tried a third time. The same thing happened.

Well, I would not have expected it to happen with a service (CAM Plus) but it does. So now I have 6 cameras (that I bought from Amazon) and the cameras are working, but without the service I'm limited to the single alert and the cool down period. This doesn't cut it.

I spent a whole day installing the things. I don't want to take them down and return them to Amazon.

I'm at a loss and I'm seething that this company can't even get its systems in order enough to take my money!

1.0 out of 5 stars Without playback, what is the point?

Look, I get it. If you have a camera on a battery just mounted somewhere with no direct power, energy needs to be taken into consideration.

Recording takes a lot more power.

But if you have a base station, plugged in, with an SD card slot, why can’t THE BASE record and offer playback in app like all of the cheaper models?

These are 100 percent useless and I hate them.

If someone comes by in the middle of the night and throws a Molotov cocktail at my neighbor’s labradoodle, what do I tell the authorities the following morning who inquire about the camera footage?

“Oh these? They don’t record anything. Well, they sort of do but I have to schedule the recording. If I knew there was going to be a gang of hoodlums blowing up pets I would have had it running.”

I have like 11 Wyze devices and this block of worthlessness is making me seriously consider getting rid of all of them in protest.

Don’t buy these. Ever.

You want outdoor Wyze cams, you either enclose a V2-V3 model and run power, or try one of the weird lithium ion battery portable charger methods I’ve seen a few guys do.

ANYTHING but these. Learn from my sacrifice.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy !!

Have been using it for about 3 weeks now, and I would not buy it again! Lots of problems. Where do I begin?: First of all, the batteries don't last any where as long as advertised. One of my cameras would go from fully charged to ZERO in 24 hours. The night vision is VERY POOR! The daytime video is good. The app, the cameras and the whole system is VERY quirky. Some times the whole thing disconnects and stops working. This happens a lot! Camera reception from the base station is good. The whole system is very hard to use and is VERY frustrating. AND, you have to pay extra($) to get some of their so called premium features. These premium features are not really "premium." They should be included with the original system/price. The customer service is about the worst I've ever encountered!! If you've got problems or questions, don't count on Wyse's customer service to help you. If you can't figure it out by yourself, then you are out of luck. The so called user guide is minimal and probably written by someone who's first language is not English. Naturally, much of the user manual is taken up by other language translations, many other languages. Doesn't help a lot if you only speak English. I still don't know how to retrieve images from their "cloud." Boy, what a horrible system !!!!
