5.0 out of 5 stars Simple Security Option

I wanted something simple for my grandparent's home, which would allow me to be able to check the area while away. I found these and thought they would be a quick and easy answer to my problem.
Shipping was quick and easy and everything showed up in great shape.
Out of the box, everything looked great. The installation is fairly simple, and it comes with all the required hardware. The batteries will need to be charged a while in order to ensure the battery life is optimal. After charging them overnight, I installed the mounts, slid the battery into place, and followed the instructions on the app. After a short wait everything was set up and ready to go.
These have been up for a while now and I have absolutely nothing bag to say. As long as you have wifi boosters around the house, you should not run into any issues with connectivity or lag. The notifications are great, and the video clarity is exactly what I was looking for. Additionally, this system allows you to post possible issues to the neighborhood so your neighbors can be made aware of issues. For example, I recently saw a lady had her package stolen off her front porch and they managed to get the whole thing on video.
Overall, I would absolutely recommend these for someone that is looking for a simple solution to a home security video system. This allows you to be literally anywhere and still check on things around the property. I would am extremely happy with this product and will continue to do business with them in the future.

Love these cameras. I bought the 2 pack 7 weeks and 1 day ago when I discovered someone was peeking in our windows and testing our locks, and just had to change the battery today. The front camera goes off 4ish times per day (when we go to and get home from work), and the battery was at 5% this morning. Our back porch camera goes off about 1-2 times per week and was at 37% this morning. I live in upstate NY so these cameras were installed in single-digit weather, and the batteries have now lasted through into the warmer 50-60 degree days. I'm amazed at how long the battery life has lasted and the quality of the video. I love that I can see my packages get delivered (the delivery man even waves at the camera), the quality of the video is amazing, and I can go back and watch old footage as well as go to a live view whenever want. The spotlight is great for helping with night vision and I love that I can talk to whoever is in front of the camera. Definitely recommend. Purchased a second battery for each camera to extend the battery life (have not put them in yet; this review is on a single battery in each camera) and look forward to getting 3+ months of battery life out of each camera.

I was reluctant to have to spend any money on outside cameras but all my research pointed me to Ring products. Price point on the wireless spotlight cameras is excellent and once I got the cameras, installation was so easy. I have had them about a week and everything works well. Only major complaint that needs to be addressed asap by the company is recording time. We need full event recording rather than short clips. Only recording the first 30 seconds does nothing if a burglar or nefarious person waits 30 seconds to rob you. It should at least start re-recording after the 30 sec period if motion is still detected. This can mean the difference between catching a thief or not. It must be addressed immediately! If they fix that then they will have a much better rating!

I’ve installed 4 of these on my home. Great little camera but make sure you set the camera “ zone “ for recording. It doesn’t always pick up motion. They adjust recording and zone to save battery life. Do yourself a favor and max out camera quality and zone. Don’t worry about battery life. If you need the video it needs to be the best quality. Also buy the solar panel to charge the battery!! It’s $50 bucks. Well worth it

Just when I thought I was Ringless, I finally spoke to a Ring rep over the phone and was very pleased with the next step. Not only did Ring understand my frustration, they were aware that my camera was not displaying. Ring sent me a replacement camera and emails wanting to know more. A review of a company should note the wrong and a follow up when they make it right. I recommended Ring to my friends and family when I bought it in 2019, I standby their product therefore "I" standby my Endorsement. Thanks RING!

Instructions didn’t mention that. Setup is a snap. I also purchased a separate set of batteries and the solar panels. Didn’t want to fool with charging batteries. So far so good. Photos and videos are crystal clear.

I love these, and how easy they integrated with the ring door bell we already had, After they arrived, I realized based on placement, they option of 2 batteries versus one was the way to go, so I didn't have to keep on getting up on the ladder and charging, (which takes several hours) and be without coverage.
The wifi even when it was 7 feet away with a window between, we had problems connecting, I would get a notification, and moments later it might pull up. That too is random when it does that.
The motion is fabulous, I had to place one really high to capture the back yard 2 stories up, and it catches everything, to the point I had to scale back sensitivity, and shut off one side of it, as my tree would move. One thing I would love to see Ring do with these, is allow you to draw out the objects triggering the motion sensor like on the door bell. This one, you just turn of sections.
Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to consider these, just know going in the things that are small hiccups.

I bought the 3 dollar per camera to get recordings. The only way to go. Pay by the year is way less hassle. 70 dollars for a years worth of safety, you cant beat that. Great buy.

My only complaint is that the nvg stays in black and white even another light comes on. In other words, if motion is triggered at night and the units light comes on, then you get color. But if a nearby light source comes on and the motion light isn’t on, then you still get black and white. In some areas, you don’t want the light to come on every time there’s motion but you should still get color night vision when there’s plenty of light.
Everything else is great. Get the solar panel.

4.0 out of 5 stars False sense of security
Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2021
Verified Purchase
I liked these cameras for the first 2-3 months, they provided a false sense of security and were fun to have. I slowly started to notice that they didn’t catch all movement and sometimes the image was not very clear.
The first major issue occurred when an Amazon delivery driver came into my driveway and backed out hitting my gate and destroyed the entire control system. The ring camera shows the van driving in but is too poor quality to make out a license plate or van number from just a few feet away. When the the driver backed out and hit the gate the camera didn’t even activate until he had done a 3 point turn and shows a blurry image of the van driving away.
Since then I have noticed the ring cameras fail to catch coyotes in the yard, people walking past them and turning on to catch a leaf blowing in the wind. If you actually monitor their effectiveness the cameras are absolute junk and provide little more than an anecdotal 75% capture rate. I have 4 cameras and a doorbell and I am extremely disappointed. I really wish I had known how ineffective these are.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cameras are OK, software driving them and storing footage needs improvement
Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2021
Verified Purchase
I have 4 of these mounted on the gutters of my current home, and while the sight of them helps somewhat with criminal deterrence, I've been disappointed in their ability to record criminal activity. I bought these because for the previous year, a predator was coming on the property mostly in the middle of the night. However the cameras don't seem to record anything unless it's something obvious front and center, meaning that I'd need one of these cameras every 10-15 feet to catch everything. In other words, just because the camera can see it doesn't mean that motion in that area will trip the camera's motion sensors. And yes, I've adjusted the settings to include the whole picture.
Because the cameras work over Wifi, installing a lot of extra cameras would be a strain on the bandwidth. These cameras have missed all but one event which possibly shows the predator was circling the house on his bike (something he does lately, no longer coming on the property that I know of, probably because he can see the cameras), and then that was only captured due to other activity that tripped the camera.
Then there's the other end of trying to capture a stalker on camera -- the web site storing the footage for you. It's been completely impossible to download all of the footage for later review. This is complicated by the fact that outdoor cameras pick up everything right in front of them, mostly the wind in the trees or rabbits on the front lawn, occasionally a large vehicle driving past. And so there's so much footage that I try to download it within the 60-day limit for stored videos. At first I could download 20 at a time, but lately most of the video isn't even able to load to view, much less download, and so I have to go through lists of video clips one by one by day, things that I won't have time to view yet, and find the few that can actually be downloaded. I was only able to download one of value that I know of. Most of the others I can't download at all.
Then, the night vision feature -- for the cameras that don't have nearby street lights or other outdoor lighting helping them, the infrared and spotlights only help for a few feet. Even the close area in the side yard where the predator originally showed up is mostly unable to record what tripped it at night. I'd need to install more lighting to find out what's going on there lately.
At first I was able to watch the Ring videos remotely on my mobile phone after I'd get a notification, but now the notifications no longer make a wind chime noise, or any noise, and the videos always freeze when I try to watch them real-time. Past events usually freeze, too.
Still, there's enough recording going on that i was able to share a video with the police before it expired, and I was able to save at least one other clip of criminal activity. Having a dash cam on parking mode also helps.
I should note that indoor cameras are an entirely different matter. The camera in the garage is rarely tripped by anything insignificant, and it seems to record everything that goes on out there, along with an occasional clip of nothing, because all Ring cameras take a few seconds to get going after sensing motion. If someone opens a door and closes it right away, Ring probably won't record them.
I have battery backup on the Wifi box and indoor plug-in cameras, and suggest that anyone who wants their security to last during short power outages do the same.
I'd rather keep the outdoor cameras than take them down, because they are of some value, but they need major software improvements to be useful when faced with criminal activity in the vicinity. Some of those changes could be handled at the Ring end, and wouldn't require new cameras. However, Ring cameras do not replace 24/7, hard-wired security cameras with good night vision and adequate outdoor lighting to help them.
One more thing that was really odd. One day I was standing in front of the house, watching someone walk by. I was simultaneously watching the live view of the front yard on my phone, probably because I'd just changed batteries and wanted to verify the cameras were still in the right positions. I noticed that nobody was visible walking past the house on my phone, and so I thought it was due to the few seconds delay between the event and Ring rebroadcasting it to your phone. But the person walking past never showed up, yet cars driving past did. It was as though software had removed him from the picture. However, when I waited a couple of minutes for Ring to save the video, and checked that, the person was visible in the video along with the cars passing him at the time. What was that? Does Ring software separate people from their background and then add them back in? There are a lot of issue with Ring software...

Easy to install and operate. I want to encourage others to buy as it works well for my needs but there are two significant flaws. First, the Spotlight Cam is very expensive when compared to other products of similar capability but I locked into the Ring eco system based on my research on subscriptions and Alexa compatibility. Secondly, powering the Spotlight Cam is a expensive proposition. The battery will die within two weeks if you turn on the video features- completely unacceptable from my perspective. However I was stuck and purchased solar to address this problem with the Spotlight Cam (see problem one-expensive).
The hidden cost and poor battery performance have ruined my enthusiasm for the Spotlight Cam. All things being equal I would not buy it again unless it was at a significant discount or bundled with extra batteries and the must have solar charging system. That said, I monitor it daily and depend on it for keeping a watchful eye on the dogs leaving sculptures in my yard. The picture quality is excellent as are the management options when it comes to defining a zone and motion detection. Moreover the false alerts are minimal to non existent so I still get a little excited every time I hear the chimes after a month of ownership. Also, the integration with Alexa is too easy and it makes creating routines all too routine.
In short, if money does not matter and video quality does, I encourage you to buy the Spotlight Cam (extra battery and solar kit) and dont look back. It is easy to setup and it will not disappoint when it comes to usable features. When used as a comprehensive solution with other Ring products and Alexa it is hard to say it is not worth the premium price. Easy of installation and a user friendly app make it difficult to not leave a five star review but terrible battery performance is certain to disappoint.

I can’t talk to anyone. It makes noise when I talk, but it is indistinguishable. The same happens when someone talks to me.
Although the motion isn’t supposed to pick up small items, like kittens, it does, so the alarm sounds 30 times a day due to animals.
Although when “I” walk up the steps to get my mail, it sees me every time, it hasn’t noticed the post man once in the last 2 weeks! What is up with that? He wears an invisibility cloak??
I have played with the settings a lot!
FYI: When they send you the spotlight cam, they also send a screw driver to use. If you pull the screw driver out of the handle and turn it around and put it back in, you have the “locking 5 star” needed to screw the cam to its holder. Since I did not know this, and it didn’t tell me in any of the information it was there, I had to buy a set of this type screws!
The CAMERA does work very well, and the videos show up on my phone VERY WELL!

On this model, only, you can not set a custom field for motion detection. That results in false-positive alerts. Most other models allow you to draw a custom motion field. Secondly, the mount restricts the position of the camera and thus effects the field of view.
I do not recommend this model for most applications. It would probably work fine in a large open area.

I bought this because I suspect people have been casing my house. It detects motion and turns on, that's great. It only records for 30 seconds, though, which is disappointing, I'd like it to record when motion is detected until the motion is gone. might be 2 seconds might be 10 minutes, but that's what a security camera SHOULD do.
Other than that, the video itself... well, as long as you are trying to capture things within about 10-15 feet, you should be fine. Any further out than that, especially at night, and you're basically staring at shadowy silhouettes which doesn't really help in terms of, for instance, seeing what someone might be doing around your car parked on the street.
Also, the wired cameras have way better video and motion detection, and also record for a full minute. I'd recommend wired if you can swing it. At this point, I wish I'd bought all wired cameras and gone through all the trouble of running power lines.
Still useful, just not as useful as I thought.

First shipment was returned for exchange after 2 weeks installation because one camera stopped functioning completely while a battery went from 100% to 18% in 36 hours. Bought two extra batteries for two cameras from another retailer. Recharge time is about 8 hours overnight.
Those batteries only last 7-14 days depending on the movement outside your home. We had hoped they lasted 2-3 months as reviewed. The cameras are affected by environmental conditions f.ex. nighttime flying insects and wind blowing some debris in front of the camera triggering a motion notice.
The app should have a simple turn camera on/off function in settings if one is outdoors on the driveway washing a car f.ex. That drains the battery 20% with 4-7 notices in 60-90 minutes.
Some notices of movement are delayed up to one hour afterwards. WHY? Not very useful.
If you live in a community with many homes and people, expect to change batteries often.
Each wide-angle file is good, not great. These cameras should cost 50% less with many disappointments and to be more competitive. Other security cameras seem to cost about $85-$125 each with generally better specifications including improved night vision. The RING solar charge panel at $50 is also too much. Should be $25, 2 for $40.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sunk Cost Exploitation: Nearly useless without the conveniently expensive Wi-Fi booster.

Mine is like 10 feet and 1 french door from a strong NetGear Stealth dual-banded WAP and it says "poor connection" or it does not connect at all. I am not sure what kind of 2001 technology you have to put into a device to give it that poor of a localized bandwidth capability, particularly because I have dual band WiFi with 5Ghz also available (of course this is not a dual band capable device.)
So like many I ended up having to choose between returning this, or buying the add-on extender, which apparently is also only good for Ring devices (not regular phones?)
It has not arrived and I am not even sure it will work yet. For the amount this costs, embedding such poor WiFi is unconscionably deceptive and crappy. Even my Ring doorbell, which is about equidistant from the WAP, gets better signal than this.

I called the Amazon Rep. for Ring equipment and related that 2 of the 3 Spotlight Cam battery's were sending false signals that the battery door's were open. The rep said they would get back to me with an email telling me what to do. About 45 minutes later they told me that they were unable to solve the problem. I called another Amazon Rep. and related what happened. They suggested that I return the 2 cameras for a refund. I stated that I had bought several hundred $ worth of equipment during the "Good Friday" discount period, and that I would have to pay more for the replacements. I was told that they would try to get me replacements, but only a refund was available. I then called the Ring company Rep. and explained that I had bought over $600.00 worth of Ring equipment from Amazon. They somehow hooked up to my Email address and began monitoring my equipment and confirmed that two of my cameras were sending false signals and they sent me free return mailing labels for two separate boxes and told be to carefully pack each camera in separate boxes without mounting brackets and without a separate battery for each camera. 2 days later I received brand new replacements, a black unit and a white unit before I had sent back the two cameras, as I was having troubles finding the UPS driver in my small town. Incidently, I saw an Interview with the famous basketball star, Majic Johnson?, who lives in Orlando, Florida, and he invested a Billion dollars with the Ring Company some years ago, on the condition that he would be paid to do all of their advertising and be considered a fully paid partner within their corporation. My family in Florida has been using a residential Ring Alarm system for years with no problems. That is why I am starting to use the system for my residence in Oklahoma.

3.0 out of 5 stars Battery spotlight cam overpriced
Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2020

Over-priced for battery/solar operated unit. Custom settings limited to my needs and site’s applications.
Battery Cam with Solar should get closer to 4 stars but got 3 stars because of software limitations and over-priced.
Things to improve:
1. WiFi door chime/extenders short in range
2. Avg night vision w/ long waking times
3. Slow and inconsistent motion linking secondary cams during capture wake-up
4. Inconsistent motion detection In low-light situations.
5. Sporadic motion failure in day light situations where camera covers a spot that’s under shade of a large tree or tent for example.
6. crappy “What did I actually pay for” software with limited zone options and nearly non-existent scheduling features. what makes this even more frustrating is when I have to pay an annual subscription If I want certain features but can’t get standard software options.
Features to add. Most is software related so I hope Amazon upgrades customers soon:
1. Back-up SD card when power and/or WiFi goes out
2. Battery Cam overpriced for a system that looks good on the outside and performs lazily when being asked to add motion and zone options to its home and away scheduling
3. The camera’s inability to override the hardware when NEEDING to reconnect the devise to WiFi when not in town. Quite frustrating because we’re over 5000+ miles away from our main home and can’t reconnect our camera without being physically there.
This is doubly frustrating when a series of thefts have happened; and we purchased the camera just before our trip and earnestly needed it to pick up some footage so we could have some peace of mind..
If it’s a security feature, it’s definitely working ironically against this customer in this specific situation.
4. Chime Pro 2 extends WiFi poorly. It would also be nice to be able to turn it into an intercom or speaker for the end user

Although these cameras are cool when they work, they don't always work. The batteries definiley do not last 6 months...they last about 3 weeks on the camera that struggles with wifi and maybe 5 or 6 on the camera that struggles less with wifi. You really have to be careful to put the cameras in a place to get a strong signal. The one we put in our backyard works like 90% of the time, but the one in the driveway basically stopped picking up anything altogether (it used to work half the time... I'm not sure what's changed). I even bought the wifi enhancer which doesn't seem to do anything at all. I think if you are looking for reliable cameras that are low maintenance you should probably select another product, maybe something wired.

After a lot of digging around and reading reviews, and a prime day sale, my buyers remorse is in overdrive.
As far as installation, these are great!
Video quality is ok, I was really expecting better.
Integration with my smart phone sucks, is laggy, and crappy quality.
And now both of my battery cams randomly display an alert that the battery door is open and needs to be closed.
There also seems to be some issue causing them to randomly NOT record. Not sure if the motion sensor is bad or what, but I have had several packages dropped off on my front porch and the camera didn't record anything.
I gave them 3 stars because it was incredibly simple to install. But the app needs work!

I have both wires Ring cameras/doorbell and this wireless product. I'm a bit disappointed by the wireless analogue of the Ring products, here are several points:
1. Battery last is about 1 month for me instead of "up to 6 months" with default settings and about 10 motions detections per day.
2. Record starts only when object already in the middle of the motion zone (compared to the wire solution which have backfill records).
3. It is very small installation vertical angle, so it is impossible to make camera look at 45 degrees down without some DYI base. I installed camera above my garage door and I want it to point to my driveway only, but maximum possible angle allows me to direct camera to my driveway, road and neighbors house over the road.
4. Motion detection is also pretty poor. Motion detects even just lights, so a lot of false positive detections.
Overall, I don't think this camera worth its price.

Overall I do really like this camera, but they seriously have issues. The batteries they came with were fully charged when I first installed the cameras and the charges lasted a couple months. Then when it was time to take the batteries out and recharge them I tried putting them back in the cameras the camera I have on the front of the house wouldn't recognize that I had just put in a newly charged battery. I did everything I could to try and get it to recognize it had a full battery but at some point I gave up. Then after a day of letting it sit there it recognized it on its own. Now its been a week since the recharge and the ring app is telling me that it can't show me live view since the batteries are at 6%. Seriously disappointed in this quality of these expensive batteries since its a pain in the ass to get up and take the batteries out to recharge them. Not to mention when I try to open the app to see the cameras view because it's detected motion it take 10 seconds to kick in and show me, if it even kicks in at all. The other day someone came to my house and the one time I needed my camera to show me who it was the camera wouldn't sync with my app. But any other time its not a stranger that I'd like to identify for my own safety it loves to tell me when I've come home from work. But the one time it would actually be useful it goes to crap.
They are nice cameras and have good camera quality when they do work but for how much money I've paid for them and how much the batteries cost I expected better battery life and syncing. I've even kept my record setting very minimal since it says that enhancing any setting drains battery life. But at this point you pretty much have to keep the damn things off to preserve any kind of battery power.

I really like the spotlight feature and since adding the solar panels it really completes the system. The major drawback is the terrible Live view, it doesn't work about 75% of the time, you will have to use the Rapid Ring app for that which is about 90% reliable. Don't plan to try to speak with anyone on it immediately because of the lag or can't connect problems. My wifi signal is very strong with a MESH system and 1 gbps down, one of their CS people tried to help and she was quite nice, but it seems it's more of a hardware issue.

This whole idea is obviously in its first or second generation. We have had the system a month. It is good but not great. The sound quality is mediocre, the latency between an event and notifying me is too long, live view can take 15-20 seconds to load up despite adequate WiFi and the battery life is not good even when you change the appropriate settings. Buy a second battery in a high traffic area. We only get 2 weeks out of one battery.
In a few years I hope they necessary changes to make me want to buy it again. I’m unconvinced.

Our neighbors car got broken into so I just went back to check these cameras and they have never gone off at night and we have tons of wildlife, cars going by, etc… I have 4 ring cameras, I’ve spend over a thousand dollars on these cameras and the only one that works is the one that is hardwired… The doorbell as absolutely horrible, only catches a few things…. Very disappointed. I recently learned that the videos are deleted after 90 days, even when “stared” and spend over $100 a year for Ring to store the videos… I lost all the videos of my son and dog before she was murdered… Had I known that Ring doesn’t save the videos I would have saved them. So if you want a video download it immediately… Also get different or hardwired cameras for important areas of your home or business.

I installed two Ring Spotlight Camera battery devices outside my home, and after weeks of spotty to little people detection and much frustration, I contacted Ring for help. Ring remotely monitored my cameras for 24 hrs and we we did some tests. A person could actually walk straight towards a camera and force entry into my back door, without detection. These camera's seem to be able to only detect a person if they walk across the detection field of view, within a certain specified range. The Spotlight Battery cameras can detect cars all day long at greater than 70 feet range, so if that is important to you, then these will work. Ring refused a refund, but offered to exchange the devices for the wired spotlight devices, which use a totally different detection technology. Unfortunately, I do not have power in these two locations, so I am stuck. The product is well built, and the app makes it easy to install and set up, so that is a plus.

In September 2019 I purchased a box of two Ring Spotlight Cameras (battery) and both have failed.

Ring determined the camera was faulty, said they'd ship a new one, and it took two months to arrive. After calling multiple times for a status update on my new camera I got multiple answers ranging from short supplies due to the pandemic to the last CSR didn't put the RMA in correct to shipments should arrive next week.
The second camera failed December 16, 2020. The batteries died and when replaced with two fresh batteries the camera is dead. When batteries are inserted the camera immediately starts rapid flashing blue and white. I've tried both batteries, battery 1 in each slot, and battery 2 in each slot. Same result.

The motion detection is great, but you won't get a recording until a few seconds after the person trips the motion detection. So if someone is walking towards the camera, you likely won't see them until they're close to the camera. Which can cause problems.
And the recordings won't last more than 30 seconds. So if someone is snooping around your car and steals something at 45 seconds, you won't see it until there's a long wait and they trip the detection again.

I have the camera setting to the minimum motion sensitivity and the battery still drains so fast. The distance that it captures it’s not a very large area. I have stood outside and waved my hands in front on the camera and when I go back to look and nothing was recorded. It was a waste of money. If you want a camera outside get the flood light camera. I am so irritated with this product. I recently had my property vandalized by some drunk. Punched a car, kicked my french doors, knocked my porch lights off, and destroyed garden lights. My Ring camera picked up (2) 30 second videos of this incident. Both of which missed ALL of it happening. 3,000+ damage to the car and he got let off because of no evidence. What it partially did catch was grainy and mumbled. I did so much research on cameras and finally went with these only to have this happen. I never heard of a camera not continuing to record if movement was constant. I guess that was my fault for not catching that in the description. If you want something with more than 120 seconds of video at a time, look elsewhere. Oh and I did order the solar panel so I could maximize the record time to 120 second only I am now waiting over a month for it to arrive. They keep saying it's "arriving today" and then gets rescheduled to the next week. So done.

I enjoy having cameras so that’s a plus. The motion detection and reporting seem to work okay, but not perfectly. I have the sensitivity up and it is a little inconsistent with how it responds to similar events. My bigger problem is the seemingly random ability to use the live view. I have three of these devices now and they all present live view sporadically, and it doesn’t appear to correlate to the signal strength shown in the Device Health. I’m concerned in an emergency I won’t be able to use the cameras, so I don’t feel as safe as i would hope, which is really the bottom line.

Ring updated their app. The app works with Apple products. Unfortunately, I am not an apple person. So I cannot see anything through my camera. I contacted support. I got the uninstall and reinstall. When that did not work after 5 or so attempts, I got the uninstall, clear cache, reboot and reinstall. I have done that about 10 times. I cannot get them to fix it. After 3 weeks, I am able to see my camera feed while away from the home but not while I am home. That makes no sense to me. So I basically have over $600 worth of crap that does not work. I cannot return it or get any money back. Horrible customer service and they absolutely do not care about my situation. I will be selling the stuff to someone that has an apple. I will never buy anything from Ring again. Since Amazon owns Ring, I will think twice about buying anything from them as well.

2 Ring Spotlight Cams purchased 7/15/2019. 1st died and Ring replaced it in June 2020. 2nd died and Ring replaced it in Nov 2020.
We have the following installed:
Ring Video Doorbell 2
2 Ring stick up cams
2 Ring spotlight cams connected to Ring solar panels
Blink XT
We are constantly climbing on ladders and changing the batteries in the Ring Cams. We are constantly changing the battery in the Ring Video Doorbell 2. To the point my husband told me to throw the Rings out!
I estimate we were changing the batteries weekly before we gave up!
The motion detection on the Ring Video Doorbell 2 stopped working well.
We both work in technology. So, we know to and have done things such as customizing the zones to not detect trees moving.
The devices record all the the time and save segments that can be watched in real time as opposed to fast forward. Unfortunately, the segments begin a few seconds after motion is detected which means that quite often the motion is not part of the segment that can be watched in real time. The motion can only be watched in fast forward motion.
We have had 3 Blink XTs installed for months and have never had to change a battery! The segments that are saved for real time viewing capture the motion!
We have Blink Outdoor in box.
We just ordered Blink XT2.
After Blink XT2 arrives, we need to find the time and energy to replace the Rings with Blinks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst camera_ and Battery life

I would not recommend a ring spotlight camera to anyone. However, ring software is good.
1. night vision is unusable.
2. daytime camera quality is also not good at this price.
3. Always miss events.
4. battery drain very quickly. It lasted approximately 3-4 weeks.
5. two-way audio is horrible.
6. the speaker makes wired high pitch noise.
Now RING is not providing a drill bit with the kit and the battery I received is 5960mAh which is smaller than the Ring original battery. I contacted Ring and ring accepted that our battery should be 6040mAh. Ring company refuses to provide original battery or replacement or any support. Ring company said that I should buy the camera directly from RING website to get full support.
I hope RING will improve and come with a better camera and would take responsibility and customer support for their product sold by Amazon.

I bought 3 cameras total and one of the cameras that were delivered doesn't show anything in the feed although it's well within range of my Wi-Fi signal. In the app it shows strong connectivity to the Wi-Fi connection pushing out 100+mgbs connection. I have checked on multiple phones also with a strong connection to no avail. I have followed all troubleshooting steps and it still doesn't work. The other 2 that work run out of battery within 2 weeks, so you're either going to have to make your settings less sensitive and not get alerts, or have to change your batteries a lot more than is convenient. I have bought hundreds of products from Amazon over the last few years and this is by far the most disappointing when considering the cost:quality ratio.

Ring seemed to have good reviews, etc, so I took the bait. After countless hours of work, multiple calls and emails, support agreeing what I have is not working correctly, I asked for replacement cameras. I still have two significant issues that Ring SME's can't tell me how to fix, and now they just stopped responding. And no answer on replacement cameras.
I have attached two pics using the amazing Ring spotlight camera, 100 MBPS at the camera location, clear night time pics but Ring can't seem to learn to focus or work as advertised. How do you like the quality? This is what you can get after you buy and support claims over and over its your fault, bad whatever on your side....
Will now go buy something else and pray that it actually will work.
Good luck

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible wire free security camera!

We bought two of the Ring Spotlight cameras on Amazon Prime day... Good delivery from Amazon (as usual) but the cameras are both horrible. We installed them as instructed. The followings worked fine for one camera - staying in color (vs. switching between color and black & white on the other unit)... That was the ONLY positive feature.... The motion sensor was horrifically bad... Neither worked. Both worked intermittently and when it worked, the alert did not show up until several seconds later...(what is the point of having a security camera when someone decided to snatch your Amazon's deliveries!!! We spent the whole day mounting the units (we tried both), nothing worked and finally called for support... The lady on the phone could not figure out what is going on as the system was intermittently in and out... So, when the system failed again, using the email they sent to me to request for additional help, I asked them as to what I needed to do... Well, after 6 hours later, no reply.... We sent all back (two cameras, extra batteries, two solar units... We don't know if the solar units work or not as the cameras did not). Stay away from this product.... Being owned by Amazon, we have expected a much better performance

After a year of owning the Ring Spotlight Cam, I don't recommend purchasing this camera.
1. Poor/horrible Wi-Fi connection
I have 4 enterprise access points at four corners of my home providing full Wi-Fi coverage Kill all the dead spots. Every other device in my home has excellent connection but these cameras always show low/no connection on the Ring app. When I get an alert of motion in front of any of the cameras and try to view a live feed, 5 percent time I'll be able to view the live feed, 95 percent of time I'm trying to just get connected to the camera which defeats the purpose of having these camera's for security purposes.
Contacted Ring support and was told to reboot my access points/router, but why should I need to when all my other devices have no issue. Ring support has also told me that I may have a defective product and will need to exchange it. Keep in mind that this issue is happening on all 6 cameras that I have installed around my home. Ring support is no help.
2. Motion Detection is Horrible
There were so many events that were missed because of the horrible motion detection. I had a plant stolen from the front of my home when there was literally a camera right above the plant and it did not detect any motion nor did it record any event. I have also followed all the recommended settings that Ring support provided and still missed events that I wished was recorded.
3. Battery drain
I ordered an extra battery for all my outdoor cameras and even installed the Ring Solar panel on all 6 outdoor cameras and yet the battery drains to a point that I have to get on a ladder, remove the batteries and charge them via outlet. Again, I have already made the necessary adjustments to the settings and yet the batteries still drain.
4. Poor Night Video Quality
I have cameras installed at a section that gets some light, but when you view the video, you can barely see anything. Even during a full moon those cameras still have horrible night videos.
5. Horrible app
Even if I have the most updated version of the Ring app, I always find myself launching/relaunching the app because it does not launch correctly the first time.
The whole year of owning these camera were full of troubleshooting and stress. I've wasted to much money on these and should have done better research. Look elsewhere!

I ordered 5 of these cameras and unfortunately after paying for handyman and installation we noticed that one is defective and only works sometimes (random movements are detected, cannot perform a live view, most of the time it is out of reach). We have a eero 1 gb mesh and 1 gb fiber optic internet and the camera is close to the house so I don't think wifi problem is the issue. Also other cameras are further from the house and are working. This one camera seem to be an issue but it is one camera out of the box of two cameras - so now I have to go through the hassle of contacting amazon to see how I can get money back or get a replacement! Who has time for this? Why can't they do a quality check to ensure the product is working before sending it? Plus I need to call the handyman back to de-install and re-install when the new camera arrives. AMAZON this is not ok!!!

Tried to set up cameras around my house or safety and protection to find they do nothing to protect you. Wifi is a vulnerable air interface but more ring devices are limited too. Anyone can hack into them or spoof then and avoid getting recorded.
Then try to get help an it's only about your subscription not about your needs or concerns pragmatically nor technically, disappointing and pathetic! Sets up easily but the value stops there for anything more than watching deliveries, dogs and blurry street traffic...

1.0 out of 5 stars cant stop it recording motion detection

Have a ring doorbell2 at our front door and it works good. We ordered and installed the ring spotlight cam for our backyard area where we have our dogs.. we wanted a camera where we can live view what they are doing when we are gone. We turned off the notification settings, and put sensitivity to the lowest level and turned off all motion zones. This worked as we now to not get notifications when they move around - the problem is that even with these zones off, etc., when the dogs move - it still records them when they move and saves it. The 1st day alone, we had over 40 times it showed them moving. We had to manually delete each one of these times from our phones. So, although we are not getting notified (which is good).. it still notices when they move and saves it. We do not want this. We even have the zones turned off. We wanted to decide when to look at them. Looks like the only way to stop this, is to take the battery out when we are gone. Wish they had a system that we could decide when we see them and not have it record each time they move. Now, what to do which this unit, as anywhere we put it, it will save movements, even when zones are off. Dang it!

Out of the four of these that I've owned, one was DOA, never powered on. Another died after about ten months. They replace them under warranty, but you have to waste 20+ minutes of your life on the phone with support for every device that fails (three failed devices so far, so that time is adding up). Quality control seems to be non-existent.

The camera is ok. The fact that we lost functionality on our ring doorbell as a result of buying the additional cameras but not the monthly ring protect drips this to a single star. The doorbell worked just fine and we could see videos without the ring protect until we installed and linked these. I was ok without having access historical videos, server storage is not free. However, now the doorbell is useless, it no longer alerts us when the button is pressed. Unless you want to go to “live view” to see what is happening or spend ten dollars a month on top of the hundreds already invested, complete waste of money.

This camera picks up motions of cars driving by all day but both the camera and Ring doorbell didn't pick up footage of an Amazon delivery person placing a package at my front door. Waste of money.
Update - I've been on Amazon Chat for over 2 hours. They have transferred me to 10 people (Retail, Product, Echo, Audible and Ring Team). No one can answer my question as to why it's not picking up all footage so they keep transferring me. So product isn't great AND customer support is worse.

These are absolute TRASH!!!! DO NOT BUY! If you care about reviewing your footage at all, do not buy. It only takes “snapshots” and the quality looks like something from the early 90s. If it doesn’t motion detect someone, which it does a terrible job at that too, then you won’t ever catch the person

What I like about this product doesn't really matter because of it's major flaw of what I don't like. I have a battery powered ring camera in my backyard. I'm having a backyard party so I turned all the zones off so we wouldn't get hit with a lot of notifications. But we still got notifications. Turn the frequency to the lowest position, still got notification to my alexas devices and phone, Turned off the motion detection still got notifications. Chatted with Ring support for over an hour. No results. Their solution was to turn off the notification to each of my 5 alexa devices; my wife's phone and my phone or I could just get a ladder and take the battery out of the camera. everytime I wanted to turn of motion detection. So disappointed. I would have given fewer stars if possible

Everything is great until your 28 day free trial ends.. because it tells you that you won't be able to save your recordings witch would be okay for me but what they should of said was... you will not be able to see what set's your motion detector off or save them.. YOU WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO WATCH LIVE... nothing else.... So on top of spending $550.00 + for my cameras, now I have to pay even more money ???? to use them.. I wish I would have known this before I bought Ring. Because I would have not bought it.
