5.0 out of 5 stars ***Five Star Review? Buyer Should Have Serious Doubts About Buying From Reolink
Reviewed in the United States ???? on September 22, 2020
Color: (1) WhiteVerified Purchase
Leaving five stars because most people only look at the great reviews...so here is a more rounded review that should give everyone pause before they buy.
Let me start by saying that I love the cameras. Bought 4 here and 3 more directly from Reolink on their Ebay store. The cameras have great picture quality and if you follow the instructions for setup using the bar codes, it takes about 45 seconds to get them up and running.
And I am returning all of them. Further, I would strongly encourage all prospective buyers to strongly consider looking elsewhere for their security camera needs. Reolink is simply INEPT when it comes to backing up their products.
A couple of weeks ago I bought 4 of these cameras. At $150 a camera with the solar panel, they are not cheap. As instructed during the setup of one of them, I went to lift up the little 1/2 inch by 3/8 rubber flap that covers the on/off switch and secures it from rain. The flap is held to the camera with a paper clip thick protrusion that goes into the body of the camera. When I pulled at it, that extremely thin piece of rubber holding the flap to the camera, broke. I didn't pull it hard, and I do not have super human strength. It just sort of broke and although I can still place the flap into the camera, it needs to be repaired because if it ever falls off, the entire camera will be ruined.
I didn't think this was a big deal.
I was wrong.
I wrote to the company and explained the situation. I explained that the cover tore and I wanted to know how I could get a replacement cover. I would be happy to cover the costs. No problem. And I made it clear that I only needed the little cover because the camera otherwise worked fine. I just need the cover!
Their response was that they wanted me to send them a picture of the camera. Admittedly, I was irritated. So I wrote back that I was surprised that they wanted a picture of this because the camera worked....I just needed the small cover and that I could probably buy it on ebay for a few cents plus shipping. This thing seemed like a no-brainer to me.
They wrote back and said...oh, now that we understand that the camera works they will refer it to their techs.
Great.
Next day (and keep in mind that their turnaround is always a day later) I get an email asking me to send them a copy of the invoice. No problem. I did that within a minute.
Next day..we enter the Twilight Zone. Instead of simply writing back to me with something saying that they are shipping out the new cover, I get an email asking me to send them the link of the Ebay listing for the cover I found so that they can tell me if it will fit the camera. HUH? So they have gone from taking responsibility for making a cheaply connected cover to helping me ensure that a third party solution (that did not exist) would fit their camera? This was sort of nutso.
I wrote back and said simply that I did not find a cover on ebay.
This morning - another 24 hours later - comes the latest response...they want to give me a 5 dollar refund.
Now you would expect that a company selling a 150 dollar camera with a rubber cover for the on/off switch would grasp that the cover that they designed for their own camera to protect the switch from rain/snow/etc had an actual purpose for existing...but these folks instead want to refund me five bucks to accomplish what exactly? Am I supposed to tape the five dollar bill over the switch to protect it? I just need a new tiny cover!
So I am now a week into this silliness and I have had enough. These cameras are not cheap. So before you buy from these folks, think very seriously about the warranty and support that they give and ask yourself if you should be going for products made by Google or Netgear because there is no doubt that a similar situation with their products would have resulted in a replacement part coming in roughly 2 days.
Reolink makes great cameras. But they simply have no ability to back up their products with support that should make people comfortable. I have lost confidence in this company.
All of my cameras...a thousand dollars of cameras...are going back because they can't figure out how to send out a tiny rubber cover that cost them a few cents.
Pathetic.

Reviewed in the United States ???? on November 23, 2022

Here are my thoughts on this; I've never owned a security camera and have now installed 2 of these and 2 wired ones:
- INSTALL: Relatively easy to install. I got hung up on a few things with it and found the instructions to be a bit lacking but there is info online from other users that I found and were helpful along with some trial and error. Easy to take down as well; just slide the lever on the top and give the camera little twist to unholster it.
- WIRELESS Wi-Fi: You want to be close to a router but not so close that you are causing interference. A strong signal is best! You can run this without wi-fi but you can't remotely view and would need to pull the SD card to review recordings.
- COVERAGE: I think it says 140 degrees. That seems about right. It records best when something passes across and down in the viewing area rather than straight at the camera and higher isn’t necessarily better. 7’-10’ seems about the right height to get good decent coverage below and out from the camera.
- RECORD to MICRO-SD CARD: Uses a Class 10 micro-SD card. 32GB or a larger one but it needs to be formatted to FAT32 which you can do through the app/client when it's installed in the camera. There is an option to purchase a cloud subscription. Recordings last for up to 30 seconds when motion is detected. Once full, you can elect to overwrite the recordings. You can select what you want it to record (person, motion, vehicle)
- DETECTION/PIR: It attempts to detect the type of motion recorded. It’s ok, but not great. I didn’t really play with the things like specifying the size of the type of motion so for me to truly give an opinion. Out of the box settings it’s ok. It doesn’t have the pet detection which is in beta testing on the wired ones I have. You can select with motion you want to review when in playback and there’s a little icon on the playback square to help. It’s not perfect and I find trying to find a specific even to be time consuming. You can reduce the number of recordings you have to go through by focusing more on the area you need and not getting every car that passes by and by changing the PIR sensitivity. A faster speed option would be nice.
- SIREN: There’s a siren and a pre-warning to go off (or not) between your chosen hours. You can select the siren for person, motion, vehicle or a combo.
- SOUND: Record with sound and has a 2-way talk which I don’t use.
- PUSH NOTIFICATIONS: Ok, these are annoying AND you may have to get a new email address since the popular ones won’t allow access from 3rd parties like Reolink. I signed up for an email specifically for the camera system through Outlook which allows 3rd party, but I rarely use it as it seemed to run out of space and frankly the push and notifications are very annoying after a while.
- NIGHT VIEW: Decent. The more lit up the area is the better the night vision. You can also select color at night or grayscale (auto when night falls and day begins goes back to color).
- PICTURE: Pretty good IMO, nighttime can be pixelated. Video runs best with a good internet connection; otherwise, you can get stuttering and stopping.
- CHARGING: With the solar panel in a full sun (possible sun, we all know how MI is in the winter) it charges to 100%. The charge drains depending on your use and how much it records. With clouds, it doesn't charge as well, but still charges. You can unhook it and charge it via USB (cord included). A full charge and some solar panel charging should keep your camera running well for quite a while and there's a battery indicator on the app/client so you can see if it's getting low.
- SOLAR PANEL CORD: Don’t recall but it says 13'. One camera is plenty long but for the other I bought a different brand extension cord that is working well since my sunny spot wasn't in a convenient location to the camera. I’m using this without issues > Sumind 2 Pack Micro USB Extension Cable 10ft/ 3m Male to Female Extender Cord
VIEWING: Can view, review and change settings through both an app and a desktop "client". Both seem to work well enough and since I’ve never used another surveillance app, I have nothing to compare. I would like to see the ability to view in a faster mode with the wireless like I can with my wired ones. It does have a preview square which shows you what set it off, but I’d like to be able to make that bigger for faster scrolling if looking for some specific event. When in playback mode, it will play the next video on that same day automatically. On the app you can View upright or horizontal. Horizontal has a bigger viewing are of the video on your phone, but controls are not visible.
- PAN/TILT: remotely move the camera viewing area (doesn't follow the motion). This is handy when you need to adjust the view when setting up without getting on the ladder over and over or you want to look around in the event of activity outside your house.
- OTHER STUFF: There are a few other settings like changing the resolution and flicker rate but those are more tweaks to help you get the most out of the camera for your specific set up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great security cameras
Reviewed in the United States ???? on February 19, 2023

Great images quality, day and night. Easy to install and connect to your network. I have not had a chance to check the battery charge time via solar but the panel gets steady sunlight from 11am til sundown. motion is fluid. Pan/tilt function is touchy because you have to slide your finger in the direction you want to pan or tilt. I would have preferred arrow buttons you just press. Overall, this is an excellent product and will be buying at least one more for the back yard.
After using the pan/tilt functions for a few days/nights, the battery dropped to 82% but slowly recharged back to 100%. In other words, using the camera steadily and manually does not drain very much power and batteries will recharge if the solar panel is exposed to steady sunlight throughout the day. I also forgot to mention the zoom function. It is a digital zoom and not very clear for close-ups, but simply un-pinching your fingers on a touchscreen device will digitally zoom in on a specified area.
You also have the capability of giving remote users (older children away from home, neighbors, friends) access to your cameras so they can check up on the owner if elderly, disabled, or in need of help. I have already ordered a 2nd camera for the back yard, 2 indoor cameras, and 4 x 128GB Micro SD storage cards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good while it lasted
Reviewed in the United States ???? on December 16, 2022

It was good for being able to monitor away from a power source. It quit charging and I delayed climbing up the pole to get it down and see what the issue was. I just assumed maybe the trees grew and started blocking the solar. When I finally did get up there and move it a few days it would charge to 20%, brought it inside to charge via cord. It is flashing orange and green and won’t charge anymore. It’s a shame the battery is irreplaceable. I hate to throw away a perfectly good camera. I ordered a newer version before I realized that it was more than a placement or wifi issue. I’ll see how long that lasts. I just cancelled an order for additional solar Reolinks though. I purchased some blink cameras instead. When I purchased this reolink I had very slow dsl century link and could only run one camera so one that had ptz made sense. I did not use that feature as much as I thought I would. Now I have starlink and can have multiple cameras. The price of blink on special will let me buy many blinks to cover the areas the ptz used to. The blinks I’ve had about a week but so far I like them. The subscription is more than Reolink but still a great deal considering unlimited cameras, extended warranty with the plus and you can have multiple systems under one account for that price. The one factor that could make Reolink better for someone is that it does have a local storage option. You would have to manually remove the card to check it though if you didn’t have wifi. Blinks do too but they require the module and wifi for that.
Overall with limited internet if I could only have one camera I would still buy this or one of the Poe systems. I’d just recommend you stay on top of the battery and if it’s not charging while in you are under warranty address it before it’s too late

We set this up as a bird feeder cam. So far, the camera is working as advertised. The solar charger seems to be keeping the battery charged. We have had it broadcasting for about a month and it is still going strong. It even survived temperatures of -20 f. In addition, it had been survived snow and rain. I would say the only draw back is that the picture is 2K instead of 4k. We have not found a 4k camera that has a battery that can be solar charged

This camera is awesome! Money well spent; definitely worth it. Image quality is great, rotation option from phone is a huge plus (no mounting a ladder to rotate), so far the battery life has not disappointed (especially since the panel does not get direct sunlight for most of the day. A lot of cameras claim to offer cloud storage but that's not the case, not this camera - you get 7 days cloud storage for free. Only thing I can see this camera could improve on is the range (area of coverage) could be wider. I am very happy with this camera. We'll done Reolink!

I've read a few reviews and I will say I laughed at a few that had complaints about simple things. This thing works incredible! I read one where a person said the protective for a port cover broke, they all have the same rubber boot like any other weather proof device. Anyhow, it works amazing and for the price and the video quality your never going to find anything better. Easy to set up and I'm not the most techy person. Watch the YouTube videos available and sit back and watch the neighbors doing stupid stuff. I watched my neighbor pick his nose in hi-def, it was a big booger and I could see it it upclose, I know gross but it was funny. Anyhow, totally worth the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Far Better than Anticipated - Update
Reviewed in the United States ???? on September 18, 2020
Color: (1) WhiteVerified Purchase
I had to return two cameras from a different seller. I could not get past the the app. i was hesitant that I was faced with the same situation. I was so wrong. From the packaging, to the instructions, this has been a FAR superior experience.
The instructions are easy to understand and more or less take you through the few steps necessary. Several notes below:
1. I did strip the screws provided. Plan on having spares standing by.
2. The power cord from the solar panel to the camera is long, allowing you to put the solar panel on the sunny side of the street, and the camera in a protected area. While it is "weather proof", a wise user will find a protected area for the camera.
3. The box comes with white power cord which can charge the camera before putting the camera in its permanent location. Once the solar panel is attached to the camera, it appears to be doing a pretty good job of keeping the camera charged even without direct sunlight. An orange light indicates the camera is being charged, while a green light indicates a full charge.
4. A 2.4 GHZ WIFI is required.
5. Problems: Other than stripped screws, I had a minor difficulty linking the camera to my iPhone and iPad. After two days, I still have not been able to link to my PC. I live in a colder climate and am a little concerned of our -20f temperatures. We will see. It required a micro-SD card for playback. I have one installed but it so far is not recognized by the camera. Also, the instructions don't clearly show where the micro-SD card is inserted. Rotate the camera pointing up to revel the slot.
While this camera is looking out over the lake, I'm buying a second for the other side of the house. This has been a very positive experience so far.
Oh and I failed to mention that the image quality is very good. I'm waiting to see if I can pickup an image of our resident bear.
UPDATE:
Camera #2 purchased and EVERYTHING positive I can say about the first camera applies to this as well. The set up was so easy and I was a little concerned as to how the app would handle another camera. Again, even that aspect was amazingly easy.
IMPORTANT: I found out after the first camera failed to recognize my 128GB micro-SD card that these cameras will not accept a micro-SD larger than 64GB. I have 32GB cards in both cameras now and the capture videos are great. Still haven't caught the bear on the camera but plenty of deer eating our flowers at 2:45AM. There is nothing negative to say about the cameras. I am a little concerned with the colder temperatures but we will have to see.
UPDATE:
I was cautioned not to go below 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Due to circumstances beyond my control I was unable to return home this winter. I monitored the temperature and the two days we fell to -33F, I checked both cameras. All worked as expected. The pan & tilt may have been a little slower but I was able to move the cameras and use all of the functions at -33F. If there was rain or wet snow, I would not have moved the cameras and waited for slightly warmer temperatures. These cameras and this company is far better than expected.

- works great over android and windows app - havenot tested ios
Cons
- no user management as other reolink cameras only a password for sharing
- memory card slot has no screws on cap
- only support 128GB as advertised, not 256GB sd card
- detection algorith is only for movements, person, vehicles, doesnot include the pet detection (beta) on other reolink cameras
I think it is only 2.4 Ghz wifi, confirm before buying if you require 5Ghz.

If you are going to buy the argus pt, do so with the solar panel. You may read so many negative reviews but seriously, most all are expecting far too much from this amazing unit. You must have good wifi!! Thats the number 1 issue people complain about and its their wifi, not the camera. I have 4 of these and one is placed over 50 meters from the router and I have yet to lose connection after sitting in a tree for over 2 years, Same sd card too. Samsung 64gb micro sd is what I use. The motion alert can be improved and have it reach out further but for all else it offers, its the best you will find for wireless, for onboard video storage and for solar powered. Make sure the battery is always above 30% and wifi is strong and you should be hot to trot.

Have 10 Reolink camera's at two locations. This recent addition, the 2K wireless solar powered camera is a nice product. For the money it is a great camera and suits my needs. The quality is there as is the picture at a distance of say 50 feet or so which is all I need. Would love higher resolution (at least 4K) and the ability to zoom and suspect there will be additional products with these features later this year. My only complaint is the Reolink Client which seems to close on its own multiple times per day. I think some dedication to the backend software is due by Reolink. Camera wise; solid buy!

Not sure what all the whining in the bad reviews is all about. When I received it I was immediately impressed by the build quality and overall design. Very solid unit and I like it much better than the Blink camera that I am replacing.
Great picture quality (for 1080p), totally silent motor operation, great mounting options.
I'm also impressed with the phone app (especially compared to the Blink software) - haven't tried the desktop version yet, but expect it to be the same. Very customizable and mostly intuitive. PTZ operation is very good.
In other words, I would recommend this camera and I would buy it again.
----------
Edit (07/29/21): I take back everything I said about this camera. I've been working with it for about a week now, and I'm even more impressed than I was before. Great solar charging (and I only get about 2 hours of direct sunlight where I mounted it; it will passively charge too, just much slower), I'm really impressed with the video quality (again, especially for just 1080p), also, I'm impressed with the WiFi connection. My installation location meant that this unit was going to be about 30-40 feet from my router, through walls and windows, with the unit antenna facing away from the router location. Still, excellent signal, and only a few seconds lag [which is probably more due to my router than the camera]. Anyway, impressed.
If I were talking to a friend about this unit I would tell them (he/him, she/her, it/other - LOL) to buy the freaking thing and ignore the negative reviews.
This, coming from a real "Tech Guy" with almost 40 years of real tech experience.
Ciao!
----------
Edit (08/04/21): I received this unit with about a 38% battery charge. Based on my preferred installation location [second floor balcony, with dense foliage/trees], I really should have, and had the option to, fully charged the unit via USB before I installed it. But, being the adventurous, stubborn S.O.B. that I am, I wanted to see how long it would take to get a full charge using only the solar panel. Today I achieved 100 percent charge! Yay!
You do the math because I don't want to. But, to the best of my recollection, it's been just under a month, and I have full charge with only about 2 hours of direct sun on the panel, and the rest of the day is passive. Admittedly, I would shut off the PIR (Motion Detection) during the day, almost every day, to allow the charge to hold rather than be on/off again all day, which would inevitably sap the power, and prolong the 100 percent goal.
Having said that, now with 100% charge, I'm going to leave the PIR detection on 24/7, and I'll probably update again.
Bottom line... I freaking LOVE this camera, and I still don't understand the negative reviews (please don't get me started).
Hope this helps,
Ciao!

I’m building a house right now, and I bought two of these to monitor the job site.
I fortunate enough to know two of my neighbors who let me use their WiFi to connect the cameras, so that went a long way making this solution easy for me.
The cameras are easy to install and set up, and they are remarkably good for the price. I added some 128Gb SD cards, and I can watch playbacks over the internet. The PTZ function makes it really easy to get the right angle, too.
The only cons so far is that I can’t seem to blank off areas in the FOV for motion detection exclusion or delete events, but they’ll get written over automatically when the drive is full.

WOW, Where do I start? I've had these (4 cameras) a couple weeks and so far, I have been very satisfied that I cancelled my Ring order for these. First off, for people looking for 24/7 Live Recording, this is a battery operated camera and cannot do 24/7 recording. There isn't a battery camera that can do this without the battery going dead every day as of yet. If you want 24/7 recording order a POE or "Plug-in" camera.
Pay attention to where you mount these cameras. The PIR sensors pick up best when a person/vehicle/other CROSSES the path of the beam. So DO NOT install the cameras where the subject would be in parallel with the camera. For example, walking DIRECTLY towards the camera.
The Clear/High (aka 4MP) resolution on these cameras is stunning and very sufficient for identification. Even the "Fluent" mode is quite impressive.
The Reolink app has a ton of features/setting that will take a bit of playing around with to get what you want. Key point is to make sure you have a good signal whether 2G or 5G in the areas where the camera will be mounted. I have an extender to re-broadcast both 2G/5G signals and found that I had to set the cameras Wi-Fi connection accordingly. Another great feature is the "Client App" that can be downloaded and viewed on your computer/laptop.
The only draw back I have found so far is that due to these being battery operated, they take about 1-1 1/2 seconds to "wake up" and start recording. I use 128GB SD cards with mine and find that it can take a couple times (clicking retry) for the playback videos to load in the App. With that said, the notifications are pretty quick to 2-3 seconds after the PIR detection is made. Still, I find these MUCH better than the Ring cameras in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best camera we've bought so far and we have several different brands !

This is Karen's husband writing this review as I am the "tech guy" in our home.
I am VERY pleased with how the camera is performing so far, so the 4.2 out of 5 rating seems well deserved. I admit I had some reservations when I read some of the reviews that were negative, in my opinion some may have been because of an individually defective product and some may have been due to lack of detailed enough directions.
When I was first trying to connect the camera to our WIFI it wouldn't connect, then I realized I forgot to type in our WIFI password, DUH ! After I added the password it connected immediately. The camera is roughly about 85 feet from our WIFI router and goes thru 2 walls and still has kept connected very well.
Also, we have Amazon Alexa and at first could not get Alexa to recognize the camera, so I did an online search for help and found a page on the Reolink support site with the steps needed to connect to Alexa, after reading that page I saw there was a step I didn't know about, once I followed those steps Alexa connected very well ! We can view the live camera feed from our smartphone app, from our "Echo Shows" via voice command, and even on our tv screens with Amazon Firestick (we have other brands of security cameras we view thru the Firestick also) so I can use a voice command and see different cameras on the screens including the Reolink camera, and I did not have to download anything to the Firestick, simply enable Alexa according to the directions on the help page I mentioned.
I already had security cameras looking from our home outward, I wanted a wireless solar PTZ camera I could mount away from the house that I could turn to look at the house as well as turn to view other areas of our property not covered by the cameras we already had.
So I mounted the camera on a thick (schedule 40) PVC pipe and mounted the solar panel on the very top of the pole, I used 3 hose clamps to fasten the PVC pipe to a 4 foot metal fence post I hammered into the ground, so far it seems to working very well. I will upload a picture of it.
I do a lot of research before buying tech stuff, and it would be difficult to find ANY product that is perfect or that you might wish had more or better features, but for the features you get with this camera (including solar powered, PTZ capability, Alexa connectivity) I really can't complain for the price paid.
Note: Remember this is not a commercial grade professional system, but commercial grade features likely cost much higher commercial grade prices, so again, for the price paid I really can't complain, I feel this camera does really pretty good for it's price level !

Worked fine for six months but during Christmas 2022 Storm, temperature went below zero and system failed. Waiting for ice and snow to melt so I can get at it safely to see exactly what failed. I suspect solar panel.
Night vision great I can see out 50 yards. Picture clarity better than expected.
Need to find out for sure if cold killed it.
Sun came out and temperatures in the 40’s. Clouds for a week prevented the solar panel from charging. Direct sunlight slowly charging up. Camera works.

I was looking to replace my current NVR system with something a little more wireless, and this fit the bill. I didn't need to run power wires, only mount the solar panel.
Installing the camera and solar panel was super easy, as it came with mounting paper templates. I taped them down, drilled some pilot holes, then mounted the brackets. The solar panel has plenty of wire to place it in the perfect spot. Finished off with clips and ties for wire management, and the mounting hardware install was complete. The only thing left was to setup and screw in the camera. There is a QR Code on top of the camera that you need to scan, so don't screw the camera onto the hardware just yet...like I did.
The Argus PT setup was just as easy. I made sure I was connected to the home 2.4G network I would be using, installed the Reolink app, then followed the voice prompts. Once the camera has been setup, screw in the camera, plug in the solar panel, and screw in the antenna.
My camera worked flawlessly for a couple of months, then Texas happened. We went from the low 80F to 3F...for a week. I'm not sure if it was trapped moisture or temperature shock, but the camera stopped working.
I contacted Reolink customer support, and was given some troubleshooting tasks to perform. After verifying the camera was not resetting, I was issued an RMA and a replacement camera was sent. No muss, no fuss. Just a sincere apology for the product not working as intended.
The beauty of this camera is that all I had to do to remove the camera was to unplug the solar panel and remove the antenna. I screwed the new camera in, plugged in solar panel and antenna.
Since the old camera was now accessible and it was going to be returned, I did a little more troubleshooting. I found the camera would not good a charge. I contacted Reolink and asked if instead of sending it back, could I keep it for a discounted amount. Since I already have cameras with power, I can just use the existing lines. They agreed and I am a happy customer!
Thanks Reolink customer service and RMA teams!

Super easy set-up and configuration. Excellent app which is intuitive and simple to operate. Video quality is very good both day and night. The motion detection algorithm is excellent with no false alarms, but has triggered for every test I’ve given it. Have already purchased a second for another location. Have not hooked up the solar panel yet due to snow/ice, so cannot yet judge battery charging feature. Battery life, so far, without the panel, is very good.

Great videos, great easy movement. everything about it as far as video quality is what you want. The only fixes or issues i wish they would address are, the icon to move the camera around. For some reason its like switched to low black resolution. It is very light and not a bold black icon. It does not effect it in anyway, but why? The next is the talk to someone outside feature. It is not loud at all. The siren is ok loud, but if you want to say something, they might not hear you. I would highly recommend this camera. It does the job very well on the part you need it to do, watching, recording and in high quality to see specifics and this does that very well.
